Quoting Coach Bosko Djurickovic on the Jan. 6 Wheaton (Ill.) Game:  "The crowd was great tonight, " said Carthage head coach Bosko Djurickovic.  "We haven't been home in awhile, and this can be fun basketball team to watch.  Cody Hilton did a great job on Ben Panner tonight.  Panner was the guy we wanted to stop, and Hilton is a great defender.  We made Tim McCrary look better than he probably is, but we wanted to stop Panner.  Richard Williams was really good in the first half, and Adam Tolo hit a couple of big threes in the second half.  The rebounding was good, especially on the offensive end, but we still turned the ball over too many times.  These are two very good basketball teams, and the intensity level was very high.  Both teams were well prepared, and this was a very competitive game.  Saturday's game will be another big one.  As you know, I'm not a very popular guy in Bloomington."

Bosko, remember, when they tease you, it means they like you.

Here's the article from last nights Carthage/Wheaton game.  One observation during the game that had nothing to do with the players or coaches, but was interesting to see.  There were a group of about 7-8 Wheaton fans who were sitting right by the Carthage student section.  It appeared from a distance there was just some good natured ribbing going on, but security came over and asked the Wheaton students to move.  When they refused, and continued to do whatever it is they were doing, they were kicked out of the building.  Again, I don't know exactly what was taking place, just looked like fans having a good time but who knows.

The Wheaton team seemed pretty flat last night.  I wonder if part of that can be attributed to the fact their bus broke down on the way to Kenosha.  They had to wait almost  1 1/2 for another one to come.

Interesting comment from Bosko.  I think McCrary this year is the one to stop.  Wheaton has won this year w/o Panner being the high scorer.   I don't think McCrary's action last night was an indication that Carthage made him look better he is that good.  Apparently he needed to be even better given the lack of support from the other guys.

I think part of it had to do with the Wheaton team wishing the second bus never came. the start of the game was postponed to account for their delayed arrival. i think Wheaton was just scared to play Carthage and their poor new coach was having difficulty adjusting to CCIW league play.

This is my first post of the year, but I'm interested....anyone here who has seen North Park play, can you give me your opinion:  are they closer to being a playoff team, or closer to not winnign a single game?

It's hard to say for sure, because in order to answer your question properly a person not only has to have seen NPU play, he has to have seen the other CCIW teams play as well in order to provide context -- and this year I've been unable to see as much of the rest of the league in November and December as I usually do.

But, given the comparatively wretched performance of the league as a whole in non-conference play this season and the lack of senior-dominant CCIW foes that could make NPU pay for a second straight year of fielding a rotation that includes only two upperclassmen, I think it's extremely likely that the Vikings will win at least one game. Given that, I'd have to say that the Park is closer to making the CCIW tourney than it is to going 0-14 again -- but that, by no means, means that NPU is anywhere near being a top-four CCIW team at this point. It's simply that reprising the 0-14 two-month vomiting spell of last winter is an even more unlikely prospect.

TQ, just out of curiosity, do you have any word on who the oldest attendee might be  -  always so cool to see an 80 or 90 year old back holding a ball - always a big smile or a tear of remembrance...
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

I kind of have the same feeling myself, Greg, but was wondering if anyone else who has seen the other CCIW teams play had any additional input.

One positive that I've seen and have been very happy about is the play of Emmanuel Crosby.  Not only has he done a nice job offensively and on the boards, he appears to be a VERY good teammate, as well as somewhat of a budding leader on the court.  North Park can sure use some leadership, especially from a young guy on a team of young guys.
