Would you North Parkers say that NPU is playing good basketball... or are they just playing better than the teams they're playing (who aren't playing very well)?

I'm trying to decide if I should head down to Foster and Kedzie to see a game or not!
Point - You should go to Foster and Kedzie just so you can say you've had the experience if you've not already.

I don't mind all of these posts, but it's amazing how 4 conference wins has turned the NPU gym into the fabled mecca of basketball in just under 2 weeks!  ;)

Just to set the record straight, CCIWchamps, the person whom you're quoting is iwumich -- who is obviously not a North Park fan. The crackerbox is neither pretty nor spacious, but with a good crowd and a good rivalry (iwumich has undoubtedly been there for IWU @ NPC/NPU games, which had both good crowds and a good rivalry back in the day) it's a tremendous small-college basketball atmosphere.

Those national championship banners add an awful lot of character.

I'd imagine that helps, but is not totally necessary.  I thought the place was special back before they went on the rampage (don't recall for sure when I was there, but suspect it was 1968 and 1969).!

I'll have to take your word on that, as that was before my time, but for two decades North Park held the D3 consecutive home-wins streak of 62 games. That's mostly due to the great teams of the '80s that were playing there, of course, but the crowds and great home-court advantage had something to do with it, too.

He said "rampage" when referring to NPC.  Nice.

There's a boatload of restaurants to visit w/in close proximity to NPU.  Midori, directly four blocks north of campus, offers Japanese cuisine and has tatame (?) rooms.  Lots of Middle Eastern places are very close.  Lou Malnati's, a bigtime Chicago Bear hangout, offers all kinds of pizza.  This is Chicago so you have a wealth of choices.

I have a feeling that North Park wanted IWU to whup Wheaton Wednesday night.  With the Titans' tough, the Parkers will be facing a very angry team in Bloomington.  I'm expecting IWU to break the tie with the Vikes by about 20 points.

OT:  Prince has penned a song for the MN Vikings.  Here are the lyrics:

the veil of the sky draws open / the roar of the chariots touch down / we r the ones who have now come again / and walk upon water like solid ground / as we approach the throne we won't bow down / this time we won't b denied / raise every voice and let it b known/ in the name of the purple and gold / we come in the name of the purple and gold / all of the odds r in r favor no prediction 2 bold / we r the truth if the truth can b told / long reign the purple and gold / the eyes say ready 4 battle / no need 4 sword in hand / we r all amped up like a rock n roll band / ready 2 celebrate every score / ready 2 fight the elegant war / ready 2 hear the crowd roar

Go Vikes!!

Prince's performance at halftime of the Super Bowl was spectacular.  I am not looking forward to The Who.  Daltrey's voice is gonna need lots of voiceover.

Yep - been there done that several times!  It's not all that hard sit there and image how exciting that place was during those championship years.  I truly think at times NPU alumni will somehow build a new facility and just bronze the Crackerbox for all eternity!

Quick!  Someone please call Paul Brenegan and the North Park staff and tell them to cancel the trip!  I would hate to see my alma mater waste all that money on the bus and gas.

Thanks for the heads-up, rabble rouser!  Phew!

Doesn't North Park want everyone to beat Wheaton:)

VB:  I took your advice and called Coach B.  He says they've lost big before down there and -- hey, whether it's by 20 in 40 minutes, or by 1 in double OT, a loss is a loss is a loss.

but it's great to see the blue-and-gold tinted glasses being worn again and prikkel quoting mock-Latin.

Your feeling is about as wrong as any feeling I've seen in, oh, forever.

As I posted on Wednesday night, Rob and I stayed on the air to pass along the results of the IWU @ WC game to our viewers. We were unabashedly cheering for Wheaton to win, and when word got around the emptying gym that Wheaton had won, people started high-fiving each other and cheering. If I knew the Wheaton fight song, I would've even sung it on the broadcast during the waning seconds of that IWU @ WC game.

You see, my rabble-rousing friend, what you may have overlooked is the fact that Illinois Wesleyan's loss vaulted North Park into a first-place tie. And that is a very, very good thing as far as those of us who support the royal blue and gold are concerned.

Not when it serves NPU's purposes for Wheaton to win.

We have a fight song?
