Here's a question I ask out of idle curiosity: Which programs are fielding JV teams this season and which ones aren't? I know that Carthage isn't, because I've been told that I don't have to show up early to keep score for an NPU junior varsity game tomorrow night. It's easy to see why, as four of Carthage's eight freshmen listed on the roster are in the varsity rotation, as is one of the three non-Cary sophomores listed.

North Park and Elmhurst are fielding JV teams. Who else?

Its a 4 year transition period to participate in post season play.  That's why many schools red shirt their freshmen in their first year of transition so they can play post season their senior year (a little incentive for recruiting).  Add Kennesaw State University to the list 3 1/2 years ago.  SIUe last year.  UIS at Springfield is in it's first year at DII division from NAIA.

G.S. I assume IWU does.  They have the numbers and they did play 2 games when they scrimmaged Olivet.

Not anymore. It's much longer now. See the sixth paragraph of this article, for instance, or this article and this article for the details of the Houston Baptist lawsuit settled out of court that allowed HBU to circumvent the seven-year probationary period for transitioning to D1.

Yeah, but a lot of things change between the middle of November and the middle of January. I suspect that Illinois Wesleyan still has an intact JV team, but I've seen a lot of cases over the years in which injuries, call-ups to the varsity, players quitting or becoming ineligible, etc., have reduced the roster numbers to the point where a JV team is no longer viable and has to be shut down in mid-season.

Yea, that's what it reads.  It's dated 2002 also.  All I know is North Dakota was eligible after 4 years and so was Kennesaw State U.  North Dakota State and SIUe are after 4 years too.  Either the article is out dated or they are letting them in through a loop hole.  IDK.

The Houston Baptist lawsuit was settled this past fall. The rule was put into place after the most recent D2-to-D1 wave I described earlier.

The bottom line is that the NCAA took steps to stop the heavy traffic of D2 schools that were moving to D1, and the membership of D2 has been roughly stable over the past few years.

I can't explain it.  If that's the rule then how did North Dakota play in the first round of NCAA...after going from DII 4 years ago.

Our we going to get in trouble for discussing DI?:)

North Dakota probably got into the D1 probationary pipeline before the new rules were put into place by the NCAA.

By talking about CCIW JV I've done a CYA on my 411 about NCAA D1 and D2. ;)

I'm sure Q will know the answer about IWU JV.

IWU does have an active JV team. As a matter of fact they have been playing pretty good this season. Coach Rose
has some pretty good young players in the mix.

I'm more curious as to whether or not Wheaton, North Central, and Augustana have JV teams. Wheaton has a roster that's even more sparse than usual this season, and as Izzy reported the other day, Mike Schauer made a surprisingly candid comment on WETN about his having to use "career JV players" on the varsity this season.

NCC has four freshmen and a sophomore listed on the roster that aren't getting varsity tick, but schools often don't keep rosters updated once the season has begun. (NPU doesn't, for instance.) However, since Kyle Julius is no longer listed on the NCC roster, my guess is that the North Central sports information staff is keeping the roster up-to-date.

Augustana's roster looks uncharacteristically sparse as well with regard to freshmen and sophomores listed on the site who aren't getting varsity minutes. Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan appear to have plenty of unused underclassmen who would warrant a JV team this year.

USee and I have been requested to dust off our ole' intramural sneaks to fill out the JV roster for Wheaton.  Look for USee to light up the JV schedule in the 2nd half of the season and come from no where to take a 1st Team All-JV CCIW spot.  He's money and double-doubles are a drop in the bucket.

Actually I don't know the status of a JV team at Wheaton.  I've only seen 1 Wheaton game thus far and arrived after the tip so I don't know if there was a JV game.  The Wheaton website sure doesn't give an indication of there have been JV games.

Augie's JV games are on hold right now, mainly because of health issues.

I was at the Elmhurst game Saturday at Wheaton and the women played before the men so no JV game that I have been aware of.

I am ready to suit it up. A Double-double would look a lot more like double-trouble for me. I am also 6'9" (with an afro) so can do some damage. I have played basketball with Mugsy and he has a decent shot......
