I've noticed Carthage seems to be working at getting the video feed working better. Earlier in the season it didn't exist, then it was sketchy, now I'm getting it working pretty consistently (I notice problems especially when I switch the window I've got open - hopping between Live Stats & video). Also nice that they show the score & time at the top. They didn't have that earlier (and obviously you don't have that with radio), so your knowledge was dependant upon whether the radio broadcater mentioned the score, or if the cameraperson showed the scoreboard.
It is pretty great to have the online viewing option.

Carthage honored their seniors before the game. Five players and two student workers. For their last regular season home game.

Luckily enough they'll be hosting some more after this. But I'd bet they're refocused today and are ready for Millikin on Saturday.

Everyone enjoy the last regular season games on Saturday! See you in Kenosha next week!

Carthage at Millikin on Saturday - this is not a gimme.

This is the longest road trip in the league and Millikin plays defense well.

Could be a tough one for the Red Men.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

I agree Dennis. Millikin has only lost in conference by double digits 2 times (and only 4 times all season). They lost up in Kenosha by 13 and in Decatur by 15 to Augie. Every other CCIW contest has been single digits. Their defense has been sticky all season and they fought back from down 13 a couple times last night in Wheaton to stay in it until the very end. Carthage should win but will have to play well to do so in Decatur.

"Giovanine was not happy that his kids were playing basketball in finals week and vowed "it will never happen again if I have anything to do with it. Our academic calendar changed, and we have to change with it. We spent the first 15 minutes in a fog. Then I thought we outplayed them for 25 minutes. But we were so bad the first 15 that we couldn't overcome it."

I'm sure it's not easy playing during finals week, but IWU has led Augie for about 79 of the 80 total minutes this season...and maintained leads throughout both games of about 8 points on average.  I'm not sure I buy Coach G's excuse.

Careful Q. You'll get some hateful idiot(s) pissed off and he/they will come on here in the middle of the night for 2 weeks and ding you.   :(

Of course, in support of your argument, how much are you gonna buy from the guy that discussions last season showed apparently sold a recruit or two on the fact that Augie operates a medical school?   ???   ::)    :D

That is a very weird academic calendar (see http://www.augustana.edu/x622.xml).

Another article.  Same theme...

http://www.qctimes.com/sports/college/augustana/article_38d421a0-1c52-11df-b8ca-001cc4c03286.html

Vikings coach Grey Giovanine blamed scheduling for a costly opening 15 minutes. In the midst of winter trimester finals, the Vikings came out flat and fell behind 26-13.

"It's the last conference game we will play during finals," Giovanine said, noting his players were distracted during practice this week. "For the first 15 minutes, we looked like we were in a fog."

What's interesting is that Coach G must have run into the same "fog" that rolled into the Shirk Center on January 27.  His team trailed by double digits in the first half of that one too:

That is quite a coincidence.

Here is how Ron Rose explained the recent loss to Wheaton...

"They played better than we did."

The loss at Carthage...

"Carthage played a great game. They were the aggressors," Wesleyan coach Ron Rose said. "They were quicker to the ball. Combine that with the fact we did not play well and the result was a lopsided game."

The loss at Wheaton...

"We didn't play particularly well and missed a lot of shots we normally make.

I kind of like the "tell it like it is" approach myself.

Absolutely. This is a team that's losing only one senior, and although that senior is a good one -- Nick Williams -- an heir apparent to his power forward position has stepped up and made himself known throughout the league. Since being installed as a permanent member of the rotation for the AC @ NPU game a couple of weeks ago, Jorge Gonzalez has averaged 11.7 ppg and 7.3 rpg over those five games. He looks ready to step into the starting five and be a dynamo for the Vikings next season.

It's a team that has visibly improved a great deal since November (granted, they looked like horse dookie back in November), and it should be getting some important players back for next year that it was missing in 2009-10. I'm pretty excited for next season already.

I think the entire top 5 is excited about next year...

* Carthage returns everyone

Not quite. Cody Hilton and his perimeter defense will be missed, and losing Adam Tolo and Richard Williams means that Bosko will have to replace his forward depth. But, yeah, all of the key players (Steve D., Max Cary, and the four freshmen in the rotation) return.

The CCIW is going to be loaded in 2010-11.  Going to be very tough for teams like North Central, Millikin, and Elmhurst trying to build and get in the mix.

That's for sure, especially since all three of them will have to replace key players as well as augment their 2009-10 squads. NCC loses Twyman, Barringer, and Knapczyk; Elmhurst loses Bainter and Childs; and Millikin loses Warren, Mitchell, and the brothers Demby (i.e., all four of the Big Blue's top rebounders and four of the team's top five scorers).

If Robinson and Russell struggled so mightily, why did Biege get only 10 minutes??

Because Beigie's not a scorer, and the Vikings, who trailed throughout the last 33 minutes of the game, needed points. They didn't get any from Robinson, and almost didn't get any from Russell until the very end of the game, but they were much more likely to get those points with one or both of them on the floor than they were from Beigie. In fact, NPU actually got something of a late spark from Russell when it looked as though it might close the gap.

To Robinson's credit, he played a good floor game (four assists, no turnovers), even though he couldn't put the ball in the basket. Russell struggled mightily for the second straight game. I wonder if he's either dinged up or just plain worn down at this juncture. This is a rough league in which to play if you're barely 5'9 and weigh about as much as a large sack of flour.

I couldn't get it to work at all, nor could I tune in the mellifluous oratory of John Weiser on the Carthage audio feed. I had to settle for following the game via live stats.

keep in mind regarding watching webcast video that it depends on the amount of the alotted bandwidth on how many people are able to download and watch at any one time. they have a counter which only allows a set number of people to view at the best possible speeds. best advice is to download early and dont turn it off for any reason during the game.

Mike Schauer on the postgame said "the game against elmhurst is a playoff game for us. We are very much alive for an at large bid to the tournament. We are more in it than people think"

I'm not sure where Mike gets this. The optimal road for Wheaton to possible Pool C candidacy -- a win at Elmhurst on Saturday, followed by a win over Illinois Wesleyan a week from tomorrow in Kenosha before losing in the CCIW tourney final -- leaves his team with a regional record of 18-8. That means that the primary criterion that has always seemed to be the benchmark for Pool C candidacy, in-region winning percentage, would be .692 for the Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance. And .692 is just not going to cut it on Selection Sunday. Wheaton would have some other decent primary criteria, especially if teams such as McMurry, Loras, and/or Pomona-Pitzer win their respective conference tournaments, but (unless I'm missing something) that .692 is too big an obstacle to overcome.
