I play racquetball every Thursday at the Washington University Athletic Complex and I happened to be at the front desk a few hours ago when the Titans showed up.  Not much fanfare in Division III.  The team was welcomed by a party of two, yours truly and a student I know on work-study duty.

Very serious guys, it seems.  The first to the desk said only four words (I kid you not): We are here for basketball.  Indeed they are.

I was also walking by the arena when the Bears, who had finished their warm-up, were handing over the floor to Titans.  Lots of hugs and handshakes.  Obviously, some of these players go way back, but they all know and respect each other well.
Well, here in Texas, we would use the contraction and make four words.

We're here for basketball!

But then again, we say things like y'all, howdy and fixin' to.  :D

EDIT:  WUH posted before I could post mine!

It's OK, Ralph. We know that y'all were fixin' to post that. ;)
Howdy Greg. Y'all doin' okay?  :)

The announcer on the video last night said Witten tore his ACL on Sunday.

UTD has 7 playeres averaging double digits. That seems like a lot. Overall I expect this game to be a lot tougher than UMHB. This team made it to the elite 8 last year and all these guys were on that team, although a majority were reserves they still understand the enviroment of the postseason. UTD averages 79 pts a game and gives up 67 pts a game. Their lowest scoring game was a 63-62 win vs UT Tyler. I wonder if they have seen defensive pressure like Wheaton. It seems they have some taller wing players that may be a good matchup for McCrary. Should be a much closer game on Saturday in Dallas.

That would be a big blow to UTD since he is a 3 yr starter and their top rebounder. His size looks like a good matchup for McCrary although I expect Chris Barnes will step in and pick up those minutes.

The Wheaton-McMurry game momentum changed when a McMurry player performed a monster slam dunk in the Lee Pfund Tourney and hung onto the rim 0.427 milliseconds too long.  He got T'ed up and we saw a 5-point swing in the game.

McMurry had come back from a 35-16 deficit at 8:04 to what would have been a 37-29 game with 3:23 left in the half.

It became quite apparent that no McMurry player was gonna be allowed to do that in the Wheaton gym.

It certainly seems that UTD is balanced and deep enough to overcome an injury.

Maybe if he had finished the monster slam they wouldn't have T'd him up:)

Yes, Witten was the typical CCIW forward.  He would have been the best to have inside for the Comets.

That is a big loss for UTD.

He did.  The basket was good.  He had gotten so high on the dunk that he was controlling his descent, and  making sure that no one was beneath him, while making the statement.

Ralph, I hope you aren't saying that play is the reason McMurry lost by 16 pts that night?

Shouldn't have been a "T" then.  Officials love to call that, aong with offensive fouls, and moving ball screens.  Can't wait til colleges start using the arc in the paint like in the NBA does.  Ball screens ar way too subjective. One of my pet peeves is when the officials don't allow the screener to roll.

The arc does exist in the NCAA and the CCIW. Albiet without the actual arc being painted on the floor. Seems like it would make it even harder for an official without the paint.
Now intead of a ref thinking "is that a charge or a block?" they have to think "would they have been in the arc if there was actually one on the floor?"

2009-10 POINTS OF EMPHASIS

Proposed May 2009 by the Men's Basketball Rules committee; approved June 2009 by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel.

Prepared by Ed Bilik, NCAA Men's Basketball Secretary-Rules Editor

1.   Charge/Block/Player Control Fouls.
The charge, block and player control foul situations that occur at the basket area are points of emphasis. The expectation is that any illegal contact that occurs at the basket area by either offensive or defensive player, (block, charge, or player control fouls) shall be penalized as prescribed by the rules.
To discourage a secondary defensive player from attaining initial guarding position under the basket with the sole purpose of drawing a charge rather than making a legitimate attempt to play the offensive player, the Rules Committee passed a rule which calls for such an action to be ruled a block on the defensive player. A secondary defender has been defined as a teammate who has helped a primary defender who has been beaten by an opponent because he failed to establish or maintain a guarding position.
This rule change does not discourage team defense in that the "help" by the secondary defensive player may be established anywhere on the playing court other than under the basket.
