Greenies are here and very excited.  Just so nice to have both IWU teams in the sweet Sweet Sixteen.  Still savoring that win over Wash U and rubbing it in with my Wash U friends and colleagues, even some of the international students now here in HK from Wash U!  Was on a HK-China panel yesterday for the Fulbright Program's Research Forum at CUHK and my panelist partner was Frank Ching, the noted journalist & commentator in HK . . . whose son is at Wash U.  So I couldn't help myself in mentioning (yes, in the panel) that IWU took down #1, two-time national defending champion.  :)  Looking forward to the weekend . . . and especially to the women getting further and further . . . on past where we got last season.  Hope is a big challenge . . . another speaker at the Forum was a Calvin grad, and he was telling stories of the Hope-Calvin rivalry, so plenty of DIII sports banter and chat even out here in lovely fragrant harbour, Hong Kong!  Bring on the weekend!

I'm here (and on the board for the women's team) and excited as well; living in England for the semester means staying up really late to watch the games so I'm trying to get work done too.

As a couple of us have tried to remind the Hope fans, each team has another game to play first!  One game at a time.

While it might very well be a Hope-IWU matchup on Saturday, I wouldn't throw dirt on the Pointers just yet.

That's what I was saying above.  The team certainly isn't.

Pantagraph article heading into the Carthage game...

The Roop

I would think by now that the 75 Texas-Dallas fans making the trip would have their tickets. How about releasing what's left of their allotment for sale to the general public for crying out loud.

Sounds to me like UWSP really isn't interested in hosting a tournament that is open to all fans.  They want to just pack it in with THEIR fans by not selling ahead of time to IWU or Carthage fans.  Kind of surpiseses me that the NCAA is permitting it and, HEY, if the venue isn't big enough then don't select a school to host such an important event.  The cost of the ticket should get fans admission to BOTH Friday games.  Oh well ...

Not big enough? UWSP's Quandt Field House seats almost 2,800 fans, which surely has to be in the top five percent of D3 gyms in terms of seating capacity. It's more than either Carthage's (2,440) or IWU's (2,600) gyms can seat (although, ironically, UTD's gym seats 3,000).

The seating capacity of the arena isn't the issue, nor is it a matter of UWSP wanting "to just pack it in with their fans" -- why would UWSP care whether or not Pointers fans have access to the Carthage vs. IWU game? After all, Pointers fans have to buy an extra ticket now to see both Friday games, just like everybody else. The whole point (no pun intended) behind the split seating is $$$$, not crowd advantage.

I see lots of empty seats at the IWU/CC game.

I can't believe the NCAA permits me to watch this game for free!

I thought that's a pretty good crowd for a neutral site game. I bet they'e got a thousand.

These D-I style media timeouts are killing me though.
