Just can't see any 5's in the CCIW being All Region.  The future All Region 5's from the CCIW are current freshmen.  To be All Region you better have more than a drop step with your right foot and jump hook with your left hand.  All Region 5's must be able to use both hands, or be 6'10", strong and athletic.  This year will be more guard dominated in the CCIW.

There were two All-Region centers from the CCIW this year, Sexauer and Nelson. In the immortal words of Desi Arnaz: Tom, you got some 'splainin' to do!

I believe Stevie D. is a lock for one of the 1st Team All-American guard spots.  The D3hoops.com preseason AA team had Wash U's Sean Wallis and Aaron Thompson on the 1st Team and Djurickovic on the 2nd.  The All-Region team, however, has SD on the 1st Team and Thompson on the 2nd.  Much like the Pool C process, I think this means SD gets to the All-American table before Thompson...which he should.  Thompson is a great player, but Stevie D. is a freak.

I think IWU's Sean Johnson has a great chance to be on the preseason 2nd Team All-Region next year.  Only 2 of the 6 guards return in 2010-11.  Sean was probably pretty close to making the team this year...

17.0 ppg
3.2 rpg
3.1 apg
75-181 3-pt (.414)
103-127 FT (.811)

Note, NCAA tournament performance is not taken into consideration for the All-Region team (Sean obviously had 4 huge tournament games).

I came to the same conclusion when I went to the All-Region team through the front-page link. There's no way on Earth that Pat & Co. can keep Steve D. off the first team, now that he's superseded Thompson on the All-Region team. The only question left is whether or not Steve D. gets the d3hoops.com POY award, or whether Tyler Sanborn gets it. (I can't really picture a third candidate, but it's a big country out there ... 413 teams means a lot of sleepers.)

I would say this -- it isn't always automatic that All-American follows All-Region the way the tournament selection process does. One of the reasons is that it's a different pool of voters (just staff) and the other is that the All-Region process is based solely on regular season stats, while we would be remiss to ignore the 59 NCAA Tournament games that get played before we announce our team.

I don't think I would be revealing any secrets here by saying we do consider Steve Djurickovic a player of the year candidate; however, we will do our annual Friday afternoon huddle in Salem and debate the particulars of his candidacy, Sanborn's, and any others we might feel are worth discussing.

I can probably look this up but how many teams are in our region?  And how many times have CCIW players made the 1st Team All-Region in the last 10 years?

Dunno why I'm enabling your laziness :D, but:

a) there are fifty teams in the Midwest Region;
b) there haven't been All-Region teams for ten years -- this is the ninth year that d3hoops.com has named All-Region teams; and
c) including this year's trio of Djurickovic, McCrary, and Sexauer, there have been 23 CCIW players named to the All-Region first team over that nine-year period.

I'm 134th, so not great.  ("If you ain't first, you're last!" - Ricky Bobby).

Mr. Ypsi is in 18th place.

Brace yourselves, gentlemen. If Chuck wins the tourney pick'em on top of the tourney fantasy league, he's going to be absolutely insufferable at least until the CCIW football pick'em starts.

I'm probably doing even worse than you in the tourney pick'em, USee. I have a knack for falling on my face in bracket contests. But at least I already have a set of laurels -- I won the national regular-season pick'em contest this year for the second season in a row -- in case Chuck starts waving all of his postseason plaudits around here. ;)

Greg (or any other maven):

What does "hey-yo" mean?

Is the "laurel and hardy handshake" anything like the secret Masonic handshake?

Advise soonest ....

RogK

Not sure of any connection to Perry Mason, but a laurel and hardy handshake is better than a laurel and hardy milkshake.
