Q, you scared me!  (Although, that definitely is a big loss for IWU)

The final D3hoops.com Top 25 poll of the season...

Carthage finishes #10 and IWU #12.

Based on what the Titans and Red Men return, I think it is safe to say the CCIW will have two preseason Top 10 teams next year.  Throw in North Park, Wheaton, and Augustana (safe bets to be good teams) - not to mention what NCC might be able to put around Derek Raridon, or what big guys Elmhurst might be able to find - and we're looking at a very strong CCIW in 2010-11.

Actually, because I had some sorting issues, that's not right. Sorry.

My point exactly, Titan Q.  A Schneidermier/Crosby tandem is more potent than the currently rostered Viking guards.  And these guards as a trio will be unable to do well on defense, in my opinion . Here's hoping for a quality recruit/transfer to occupy the two spot.

Illinois Prep Bulls-eye is reporting that Ron Rose has received what seems to be a significant recruiting commitment.  It sounds like Galesburg's 6-5 combo forward Victor Davis has selected Illinois Wesleyan over a scholarship to D2 Quincy and several other options.  Davis averaged 17.8 ppg and 12.7 rpg this season for the Class 3A Silver Streaks.  He was named to the AP Class 3A all-state team (honorable mention) and was named 1st Team All-Western Big 6 for the second consecutive season.  (Ron Rose cannot comment on any recruit until he has paid his rooming deposit...I'm guessing the Pantagraph will have something as soon as he does.)

I know Coach Rose and his assistants spent a lot of time this season courting Victor.  I have never seen him play, but based on what I've heard, he has a chance to be a very good CCIW player.  The words people continually use to describe him seem to be "physical", "workhorse", and "wide body."  I guess he is a big, strong kid who really knows how to use his body well, and is a relentless rebounder.  Height-wise, he'll be a little undersized in the post in the CCIW at 6-5, but everyone who has seen him seems to think he'll be able to counter than with his strength and athletcism.

It is not all that often a player turns down a Division II scholarship (especially a good D2, like Quincy) to attend at Division III school.  Congratulations to Ron Rose and his staff on landing a big-time recruit...and welcome to the newest Titan!

Q, looks like a great recruit for the Titans and Ron Rose.  Victor Davis looks just like the kind of strong, wide-bodied big I was talking about early and late in the season . . . a la the Jones twins and Steve Schweer.  Good news indeed.

Q, any word on Brady Zimmer?  Or other recruits for fall, 2010?

So pleased the Titans had such a great run to end the season . . . exceeding our expectations at this stage of this team's development and achievement.  Next year does look good.

Brady Zimmer has not made a decision yet. I actually coached him in an All Star game on Tuesday night and it sounds like Carthage, IWU, and Augustana are his top choices as of now. Whichever school gets him, he will definitely be a huge addition to an already very good team.

I hear the same - Augustana, Carthage, or IWU.

Brady was a popular guy at the conference tournament a few weeks ago in Kenosha.  He spent most of the 2nd half of the IWU/Wheaton game sitting with Coach G and the Augie players.  The next day he spent a couple hours on campus with Stevie D before the IWU/Carthage championship game.  And of course, Ron Rose got his share of time as well.  It was kind of entertaining to watch.

Regardless of which school he picks, I won't be surprised at all.  I think Brady genuinely likes a lot of things about each.  I'm guessing he decides in the next couple of weeks.

The Galesburg Register-Mail is also reporting that Victor Davis is heading to IWU...

http://www.galesburg.com/features/x38418309/Davis-headed-to-Illinois-Wesleyan

The article has quotes from Galesburg head coach Mike Reynolds but not from Victor or Ron Rose (who can't comment until things are official on the IWU end).

Good News about Victor Davis heading to IWU.  I've been looking for more recruit news and came across this frightening online article -- Is coach Rose considering moving on?

Does anyone have more info on this?

Why would a college head coach leave his job to take a high-school coaching job, especially when he: a) is coaching at his collegiate alma mater; b) is coaching in the same town where he has lived for a decade and a half; c) has a team coming back next year that has great potential; and d) would do so in the midst of a statewide fiscal crisis that is putting tens of thousands of high-school teaching and coaching jobs in jeopardy and will definitely freeze the salaries of most of the survivors for at least the short term?

In other words, on the face of it the speculation about Rose in that article makes absolutely no sense -- unless there is actually some off-the-record background info that the writer isn't divulging that can back it up.

It does bring up a larger point that is worth discussing here, though; that $13,000,000 fiscal shortfall in the state budget is going to pinch a lot of school districts in Illinois, and (as the article indicated) it could cause a lot of high school coaches to lose their jobs, particularly the younger, non-tenured ones who coach levels that could be cut by their respective districts (freshman teams, JV teams, etc.). There could be a lot of shakeup in the Illinois coaching ranks this year, and a lot of pruning in the size of high school programs. Fewer kids on the various high school rosters might mean an even bigger role for Illinois AAU teams than they already have, which is something that I view with a certain degree of ambivalence.

There is zero truth to that crazy rumor.  When coaching jobs open at all levels, people like to throw their "wish list" names into the mix.  Kind of like when Scott Trost left, there was a rumor that Jim Molinari was in the mix for the IWU job -- in reality, Molinari wasn't in the picture at any point.

Ron Rose went to Morton High School, played for the Potters, and is a college coach 30 miles away.  I'm sure that is an easy name to throw into the rumor mill.  But there just isn't anything to it.

(Consider the common sense side of things.  Why would you leave Bloomington H.S. to take the IWU job, and then leave IWU to take the Morton job...when the Bloomington job is better than the Morton job?)

CCIWFAN3

Wow...I agree Q.   Although the Morton position is being marketed as a very high profile position...a college head coach applying is doubtful.
