I've been to Hinkle Fieldhouse (Butler) for Men's Volleyball competition at the 1987 Pan-Am games in Indianapolis.

Also been to Milan, Indiana, to see the shrine to the 1954 state champs immortalized in the movie Hoosiers.

Bobby Plump was the player who made the last shot for Milan in the victory.

One CCIW connection to the Men's Final Four was mentioned in this morning's Daily Herald.  Jim McGrath has been the SID at Butler for 28 years.  Prior to that he was the SID at Augustana 1971-81.  McGrath played JV basketball for Augie before moving into sports information.

It was McGrath who got me involved in working at the Pan Am Games in 1987.

Good luck Bulldogs.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Gregory Sager

After graduating from Milan, Bobby Plump went on to play for legendary head coach Tony Hinkle (after whom the fieldhouse was later renamed) at Butler, so Butler's links to the Hoosiers mystique run deep.

You can add 6'9 Nick Anderson from Edwardsville to IWU's new commitments.

I had not heard this officially.  The last I knew he was down to IWU, Wheaton, and Wash U...I know he visited Wheaton last week.

One other note on 6-9 Nick Anderson (and again, I can't confirm what clemac posted)...

While he was recruited by at least 3 really strong Division III programs (IWU, Wheaton, Wash U), at this point, I'd throw him into the "project" category.  He has tremendous size and good skills, but the injury he suffered in November this year (broken hand) really set him back.  When he finally returned after missing about 2 months of his senior season, he was not very effective for Edwardsville.  I think he averaged like 5 points per game.

He has nice upside, but this is a kid who is definitely a JV player next year (wherever he goes).

Q, you're just jealous that I beat you to it.

Clem, as part of your development as a poster, I have to let you have some scoop.

And I found his stats from this year...

3.0 ppg
3.2 rpg
25-46 FG (.544)

He played in 20 games...I think he came off the bench in a lot those initially after he returned from injury.

When a 6-9 player - even in IHSA Class 4A, the injury considered, and factoring in he had a D1 player on his team - only scores 3.0 ppg, I consider that a "project."

Anderson is a great student - 33 ACT.  Add Mr. Ypsi and clemac's ACT scores and I'm not sure you get 33.

And Happy April Fool to you, too!

You're probably right, but on a technicality - I didn't take the ACT. ::)  (My SAT was 1513 - and, yes, I took it many years before they switched to 2400 possible. :P)

Clearly you took the SAT many, many years ago. When I took it in the '80s, you couldn't score a 1513 because scores were rounded to the nearest five. :) (Or maybe 10.)

I didn't know that.  Back in the Jurassic (1965), scores were precise.

An article from today's Galesburg Register-Mail on Ron Rose's recruitment of Victor Davis...

GALESBURG —
The way it seemed, Ron Rose was looking to buy real estate inside John Thiel Gymnasium.

"I lost track of the number of games I saw there," the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball coach said.

Home game after home game, Rose was seated somewhere near the front rows on the Galesburg side of Thiel, hardly trying to hide in the crowd. He was there for one purpose — to make Galesburg standout Victor Davis a Titan.

"The first time I saw him," said Rose, who came across Davis in the 2008-09 season, "I thought, 'Holy smokes!' "

Coach Rose makes it clear at the end of the piece that he expects Davis to contribute at the varsity level next season.  Victor should be very much in the competition for the starting 4 job.

Thats what every coach says to get a big time recruit to commit to their school.

Well, it seems young Mr. Davis can do just about everything but walk on water.
I expect that will be his next act.  ;)

John Koschnitzky--Sit right there on the bench next to Coach Rose--You may get a few minutes.
Dan Schouten--Your seat is down there at the far end of the bench. Keep it warm.
Kevin Reed--What school was your 2nd choice??

So now we have at least four good 4s . Only 1 problem---so few minutes/so many men.   :(
How much time is left for the other guys when Davis rates a "holy smokes" from Rose while still in high school?
