From the Daily Chronicle ...

Genoa-Kingston senior boys basketball player Scott Suchy will play his college basketball at Division III Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. He committed to the school last weekend.

Carthage finished its season with a 24-6 record and lost in a sectional championship game to Illinois Wesleyan, 77-72.

Suchy averaged 21.5 points and 6.2 rebounds a game for the Cogs and finished his career with 1,834 points. The G-K senior was named third-team all-state in Class 2A by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. He was the Daily Chronicle's Boys Basketball Player of the Year in 2007-08.

Suchy is a 6-1 guard.

In response to this post, I received an e-mail stating that 1A/2A 1st teamer Taylor Baxter (Fieldcrest H.S.) is learning towards Division III Loras.  Let me first stress that I cannot confirm this.  But if true, this would be big for Loras, as Baxter has not only been recruited extremely hard by a lot of CCIW schools, but he has had several NAIA, D2, and even low D1 teams talking to him.  This from January...

Baxter is on the radar screen of a number of schools at varying levels. "I'm still talking to North Dakota State, Northern Arizona, Tennessee-Martin, Eastern Illinois, and Evansville as of late. Division two schools that I'm still talking to are Lewis, Southwest Minnesota State, Ashland, and Illinois-Springfield. Division three schools are all over the place right now, I really like Elmhurst and Loras, and Augustana is still in the mix," said Baxter.

Now, that said, I've heard he is visiting Elmhurst today...so Loras is obviously not a done deal.

We'll see.

Baxter's backcourt mate, and fellow 1st team all-stater, Nathan Ropp is also considering a few CCIW schools.  The person who e-mailed me mentioned NCC and Millikin in particular.

Again, I can't confirm any of this.

The Peoria Journal star is reporting that Nathan Ropp has committed to Illinois Valley Community College.

Wow.  Usually when a kid goes that route, he has aspirations of going higher than the level that is recruiting him.  I believe right now, only D3's are on Ropp.

For those of you interested, here are Kent Raymond's stats from Spain (site is in Spanish):

http://www.facebook.com/Fernando.Ariel?v=info&ref=nf

He plays for L'Hospital in the Adecco Plata Fse 2 "2" (4th division) and is averaging 6 ppg (121 points in 6 games).

UM, 121 pts in 6 games would be over 20 ppg!

I assume a typo somewhere?

Sorry,

I had typos all over the place.

Here is the correct link and numbers:

Kent Raymond is playing for TORRONS VICENS C.B. L'HOSPITALET in Adecco Plata "B" (Spanish 4th division).

He has scored 121 points in 20 games (6 ppg), although only 13 points in 11 conference games.

Kent Raymond looks different.  He either looks like he has a dip in, or he looks like the guy from Fargo who put the dude in the wood chipper.

Good one - I vote for the Fargo reference.

The person who took that photo must be a veteran of the DMV.

On our way to welcome Titans newest recruit - grandson #2 decided to arrive early!  Born April 9th 8 lbs 7 oz 21 inches long, Samual Kenneth is shy of 1/2 oz of big brother Ben (who continues to be off the charts on height).

Both were off the charts at birth, Ben projected at 6' 5" 235 so maybe 'little' brother will give Titan Nation a future #4 & #3 combo; we'll just have to wait 18 years to find out!

6-8/240 would be nice...oh, and with nice touch from 15 feet too.

Austin Weber to D2 Quincy...

Being from the heart of CCIW recruiting territory, I have to believe a few conference schools were on Weber.  (I believe this is Bruce Weber's nephew, correct?)

I can guarantee you the number of titles Duke basketball has won over the years is way higher than number of funny pranks the players have pulled off, but when credit is due we give it.

Jon Scheyer, guard for the recently crowned National Champions of Duke, did something rather unorthodox when his team hit the locker room to continue the celebration. He took to Twitter, giving out his phone number for all the world to see.

About 20 minutes later, Scheyer realized what he did was extremely idiotic, and sent another tweet, begging people to only respond to him on Twitter.

Seemed like a giddy college kid making a simple mistake and retracting it, right? Ah ha, you forgot we were dealing with a Duke mastermind here. Turns out the number was that of Zach Kelly, a high school teammate of Scheyer, and member of the D-3 National Champion Washington University in St. Louis.

With all the love Duke gets from home and all the hate it gets from basically anywhere else in the world, I bet Kelly didn't get a ton of sleep that night.

Considering the fact that Spain probably doesn't have a lot of restaurants that serve pancakes, I'd give Kent a wide berth if I was one of his teammates.
