North Central getting Brock Pezanoski, a 6-3 SF from LaSalle-Peru H.S...

(Photo of him signing a "national letter of intent" included.)

Pezanoski was named Special Mention all-state on the IBCA 3A/4A team.

There are still of ton of good players out there who have yet to make their college choice.

I didn't know we had "National Letters Of Intent" at the D3 level.   :o
Perhaps a little journalistic liberty?

The Roop

They don't really mean anything at the D3 level, but if you want to sign one you're welcome to.

Brian Van Haaften of Buena Vista is currently the second-ranked active coach in D3 in terms of career winning percentage, trailing only Don Lofton of Mississippi College.

I would be careful with that pronouncement. The list you link to is not updated through this past season yet, and BVU went 15-12.

Nice catch, Pat. After the 2009-10 season Van Haaften dropped down from second to fourth among active coaches:

Don Lofton, Mississippi College  130-37  .778
Steve Moore, Wooster  625-191  .765
Pat Miller, UW-Whitewater  192-61  .759
Brian Van Haaften, Buena Vista  293-97  .751

Van Haaften barely held on to fourth place at .75128 at season's end, as Glenn Van Wieren of Hope retires with a .7508 career mark.

Sorry, coebball, but you lost your bet. Blame it on the two Pats. ;)

ou can bump everybody down one place.  Bob Semling at UWSP is now #1 at 119-29 after his 5th season (.804).

In response to this post, I received an e-mail stating that 1A/2A 1st teamer Taylor Baxter (Fieldcrest H.S.) is learning towards Division III Loras.  Let me first stress that I cannot confirm this.  But if true, this would be big for Loras, as Baxter has not only been recruited extremely hard by a lot of CCIW schools, but he has had several NAIA, D2, and even low D1 teams talking to him.  This from January...

Baxter is on the radar screen of a number of schools at varying levels. "I'm still talking to North Dakota State, Northern Arizona, Tennessee-Martin, Eastern Illinois, and Evansville as of late. Division two schools that I'm still talking to are Lewis, Southwest Minnesota State, Ashland, and Illinois-Springfield. Division three schools are all over the place right now, I really like Elmhurst and Loras, and Augustana is still in the mix," said Baxter.

Now, that said, I've heard he is visiting Elmhurst today...so Loras is obviously not a done deal.

We'll see.

A DI offer now for Taylor Baxter...

Tough break for Elmhurst...

The choice for Baxter came down to NDSU or playing close to home at Elmhurst College, a Division III school.

"It was something hard to pass up cause (at Elmhurst) I could have played close to home, could have played right away and gone there for cheap, too," Baxter said. "I feel like if I didn't go to North Dakota State, I would regret not playing at the highest level possible. I didn't want to have any regrets. If I went to a smaller school, I would have had some. We've been talking about that ever since they offered. (Saturday) was finally the day I decided that it was time to go to North Dakota State."

Montana State

Close enough.

I'm certain the view from Montana State's Bozeman campus is 100% better.  its tiny but thats the Montana State campus in the foreground

.....and their football practice field in the foreground

North Dakota?.....not so much

Keep your hopes up, Elmhurst - a North Dakota winter may send him 'home'! ;)

On the topic of recruiting, this is a service that ranks players that seems to do a pretty good job every year...

http://www.angelfire.com/ky/prephoops/0910/Feb10BolusILBoys.html

The Division III candidates seem to start at "The Third 25."  Aboona, Davis, Klimek, and Ziemnik are in that group.

I assume we'll see a few other players from that group pick D3 schools.  I know I read somewhere that Carthage is on Kladis and Labedzki (I assume others are too), and several of those other names seem to be connected with small colleges.

Here is their 2008-09 ranking...

http://www.angelfire.com/ky/prephoops/0809/Feb09BolusILBoys.html

The CCIW players ranked were:

Second 25 - Luke Scarlata (Augie) - very rare for a D3 school to get a player from this tier.

Fourth 25 - Jonathan DeMoss (Augie...and has since transferred?), Colby Long (Millikin), Kameron Norton (Augie), Tyler Pierce (Carthage), and Derek Raridon (NCC - belonged in that Second 25 probably).

(I wonder if Caleb Long will join his twin brother at Millikin?  He is a walk-on at SIU now - http://siusalukis.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/long_caleb00.html)

There are all kinds of good D3 prospects from Illinois not on that 2009-10 Bolus list (like many of the names on the board so far), but these are just a few names to keep an eye on as recruiting plays out.
