Mr. Ypsi

all blues,

I'll echo Greg's sentiments - we need a Millikin presence (especially if you have any insider ties, but even if you're just a distant fan).  Your AD used to be a regular here (perhaps I'm the only one, but I miss the banter he and Dennis Prikkel used to have about which one had more chins :D), but for understandable reasons has not posted in ages.  We usually get about one poster a year, posting a handful of times, then disappearing.  Stick around!

And I'd bet the ranch that Decatur gets far fewer ice storms than Gatlinburg!

(I double-checked to see if Placeres was just clumsy in his sentence structure - if George was perhaps raised in Decatur?  But, no, he was a Minnesota lad from birth to the NBA.)

I tend to agree with Dan that the author of the article most likely pulled an Ann Curry and mixed up Augustana and Augsburg. It's a nice change of pace, since the CCIW's Augustana tends to be confused with its sister school of the same name up in South Dakota more often than with Devean George's alma mater in the Twin Cities, at least outside of this website. (Here in D3 Land, it's probably the other way around, since Augsburg's nickname of "Auggies" is an invitation to confusion with the CCIW's Augie.)

Good thing we're talking about Evangelical Lutheran Church of America schools rather than Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod schools. If the author of the article had to keep all of those Concordias straight, his head would probably explode.

Joe does lurk here. I try to post something about Charcoal Delights every few months, just to draw Joe out of his rabbit hole. ;) However, if there was ever a subject tailor-made for a comment here from Joe -- who used to be the AD at King College in eastern Tennessee -- it would be the recruitment of a Millikin student-athlete from his old stomping grounds in Dolly Parton country.

Good catch Greg. It was the writer and not Coach Placeras who got Augie and the Auggies confused. My mistake. Sorry about that. Confer the honorary degree on Cobey Hitchcock.

The best team of all, the women's track team hopes to bring another national trophy home this weekend.

McCoy and Thomas were joined by senior Mackenzie Clemens and freshman Tara Clemens for the 4x400 relay team that finished third with a time of 3:46.23.

Congrats Clem!

And love those baseball Titans playing for the DIII College World Series championship on Tuesday in Appleton, WI.!   Who would have thunk it!?!?

Go Green . . . bring home the second walnut and bronze in a week's time!

Warm congrats to the Track & Field Lady Titans!  A super achievement.

Proud Papa is an understatement as the relay knew they needed a top 3 finish for the title and they came through with 3rd. Huge weekend for the CCIW as NCC won the men's title. The two teams combined for some great photos after the meet.

Mr. Ypsi

In case anyone who cares hasn't heard - IWU blasted Cortland State for the d3 national baseball title today, 17-5.  Cortland got 2 in the top of the first (both unearned), but Jason Pankau then settled in and no-hit the Dragons for about 5-6 innings.  Meanwhile, the Titans exploded for 17 unanswered runs, before coasting to the final tally.  (Both coaches showed great sportsmanship by emptying the benches the last two innings, giving everyone who hadn't yet played the 'World Series experience'.]

They weren't about to let the lady tracksters have ALL the glory on campus! ;)

IWU becomes the first CCIW team to win the d3 CWS.

Two national titles in three days - not bad! ;D

Warm congrats to Coach Martel and the lads . . . another national title for the all victorious Titans.  What a great run to the end, after a bumpy season earlier.  Great way to end the academic year and the cycle of athletics for 2009-2010.  IWU really had a great sporting year in all 'round.

(I think the IWU women still prevail over the men in National Titles won, 3-2!).

Gotta love it.

True, but the men are either tied or ahead in number of sports (depends on whether you call indoor and outdoor track and field two seasons of the same sport or two different sports).

1997 - men's basketball
2008 - women's indoor and outdoor track
2010 - women's outdoor track and men's baseball

Lets just get some more, and not quibble. :D

iwu70

Chuck, no quibble from me!

Wonderful year in the sporting realm for our beloved Titans.

Hope to see you at Homecoming -- October 8-10 -- this fall.

Well, at least Elmhurst is #1 in something!    ::)
