North Park's recruiting continues apace. NPU has landed six or seven recruits already, but since there's still a few more prospects in the pipeline I'll hold off on listing names a while longer.

The coaching staff would like me to wait, so I'm respecting their wishes.

You and any other interested parties are most welcome for the summer league report.

Without revealing names, can you tell us if any of the unnamed recruits have been playing in Deerfield. There appear to be some new faces among those appearing there.

OK.  So RR provided a third of an assist per game to an all-conference player who scored over 1,000 points in his career.  Still doesn't look like much to me.

I'm not sure, but I'll ask the coaching staff.

You and I are in agreement that Ro didn't deliver as many assists as are expected from a starting point guard. As I said before, he was forced to completely overhaul his game last year and go from being a scoring PG to being a distributing PG, and as a result he had a very uneven season. A lot of times you could see him second-guessing himself on the floor, overthinking the game, not getting into the natural act-and-react flow of a player who is sure of himself and of what he's doing.

This sounds like I'm making excuses for him, but I'm really not. It's simply an explanation. And in the end he's still going to be held accountable by the coaches for his performance on the floor -- and there's no guarantee that he will be the starting PG next season, two-year starter or not. He'll have to earn the starting job, because NPU has other experienced players waiting in the wings who can quarterback the team. Ro is a very talented player, but in order for him to start in 2010-11 he will have to decisively prove that he can flourish as a pass-first, shoot-second kind of point guard.

My point was simply that Ro didn't snub Nick Williams in favor of Emanuel Crosby or anybody else, that's all.

nice to here about summer league, Wesleyan seniors Sean Johnson, Doug Sexauer, and Matt Schick are all working in Normal this summer. They played in a very competitive summer league in Peoria with two players from D2 Quincy College and had a good summer. Many of theWesleyan players Zimmer, Rozencrants and , Freshmen recruits from Central Ill. have been to the famous Wesleyan "open gyms" where you will see Isu, Southern Il. and other local college players mixing it up. The 3 seniors mentioned above have played alot of ball this summer and. look very good

As with a few years ago, an Augustana player is blogging on our site about the team's trip to China. This year's blogger is Kyle Nelson:

Mr. Ypsi

Now that Ron Rose's 'baby Titans' are all 'growed up', and reached the Elite Eight last year, this trip can hopefully be a springboard to really great things.

I've often before made a fool of myself with hopes of Salem, and I know even great teams sometimes don't make it there, but this year I'm REALLY counting on it.  Barring a 2008-style 'bracket of death', anything less will be a disappointment.

Vikes are now 2-0 in China despite Brian DeSimone apparently getting some bad squid or something.

Looks like Augie and the Titans are out seeing the world -- friendship through hoops in the good liberal arts tradition.  Hope they have many "teachable moments" in the intellectual and basketball senses.

Ypsi, are you coming to Homecoming this year?  IWU Homecoming is October 8-10, including football vs. North Park, a good choice for a Homecoming game.  Lots of other good activities and events.  I'm on sabbatical from CUHK and from Hong Kong air, so in Bloomington through Thanksgiving, 'til the snow flies, then back to Hong Kong.

Chuck, you must come this Fall -- our 40th, my friend.  Believe it or not, my Mother's 70th!!!  Not many can say that.

Hope all CCIW Chatsters are well, enjoying the lazy hazy days of summer in the Midwest.

Your memory must be going, Mark (how come you're so much older than me? ;D) - I've already told you a couple of times I'll be there!

I suppose I'd better make the reservations one of these days.

Titan Q

The Titans lost their first game in Italy per Sean Johnson's blog...but I don't have any other details.
