Looking forward to catching the Augie/Wash U game tomorrow night at the Carver Center.

The Vikes answered some early season questions against Simpson last week.  This will be a tough test though, esp given the Bears lost a 13pt game to Platteville on Sat night.  This will be the Bear's 4th game of the year and only the second for the Vikes.  Hopefully the students and local fans will be strong in attendance.  Our defense needs to be solid against this team!!!

Does anyone know what injury Norton sustained and how long he will be out?

If Whitewater ends up being the 2nd best team in the WIAC this year (which I doubt will happen), then it's not a good year to the north.

Wheaton looked tremendous tonight.

What I'm most curious about though, does a 26 point win qualify as a triple monkey stomp?

Ah... now there is a complete breach of etiquette.  You skipped the single monkey stomp and double monkey stomp and went straight to the triple.

I think Jahns threw out the single monkey stomp with a gorgeous bounce pass in transition to start the scoring and then McCrary and DeMoss teamed up for the double monkey stomp by posting 24 and 26 respectively.  Therefore, lending the final score as the triple monkey stomp.

Huge in-region game tonight as #24 Augustana hosts #20 Wash U at 7:30pm.  A look at rotations in the early going...

Augustana (1-0)
G – Brian DeSimone, 6-1 Jr
G – Chris Anderson, 6-4 Jr
F – Bryant Voilles, 6-9 Jr
F – Brandon Kunz, 6-7 So
F – Kyle Nelson, 6-9 Sr

G - Troy Rorer, 6-2 Jr

C - Luke Scarlata, 6-9 So
G - Drew Croegaert, 6-2 So
G - Griffin Dwyer, 6-2 Jr
G - Sam Calcagno, 5-9 Fr

Washington U. (2-1)
G – Ben Hoener, 6-0 So
G – Jake Seymour, 6-1 Jr
F – Caleb Knepper, 6-6 Sr
F – Spencer Gay, 6-6 Sr
C – Alex Toth, 6-6 Jr

G – Alan Aboona, 6-1 Fr
G – Tim Cooney, 6-3 Fr
G - Max Needle, 6-1 So
F - Robert Burnett, 6-7 So

Missing: G/F Dylan Richter, 6-3 Jr (out until early Dec), F Chris Klimek, 6-5 Fr (?)

Wash U is coming off a 64-49 loss @ UW-Platteville Saturday.  The Bears obviously lost 4 great starters (including all-Americans Sean Wallis and Aaron Thompson), but they have a number of very good players.  Forwards Spencer Gay and Caleb Knepper are 2nd team all-CCIW-caliber players and can score in bunches.  6-6 Gay is a left-handed "4" that is more comfortable facing the basket than with his back to it.  6-6 Knepper has great size for a perimeter player - his points almost all come via the 3.  6-6 Alex Toth is a solid center that gets the job done.

The Bears have a brand-new, very inexperienced backcourt this year.  And with Dylan Richter out with injury (a sure bet as a starter this year and potentially Wash U's best player), every single player that gets minutes at the 1 and 2 was either in high school or on the bench last year. But these guys are all very talented, heavily recruited players and can do damage.  It's probably fair to say that the play of the backcourt nucleus will determine if Wash U is "rebuilding" or "reloading" this year.

Wash U's biggest problem seems to be low-post depth.  Of their 4 bench players, only one is a big guy (Burnett).  Highly-touted freshman Chris Klimek - a guy a lot of CCIW schools wanted (including IWU) - surely would have been in this rotation, but he's been hurt.  With Augustana trotting out 17 6-7+ guys, it will be interesting to see how the Bears deal with that.

If you've never listened to the Augie broadcast duo featuring our very own Dan Sand and his play-by-play partner Chris Ford, check them out...they do a terrific job.

From a standpoint of "In-region Winning Percentage", "Opponents Winning Percentage", "Results vs in-region common opponents", etc ("criteria" stuff), Augie and the CCIW need a W in this one.  It's too early to feel like it now, but come Selection Sunday this game will be huge.

Gee, Thanks Q.

Just for that, I'll let you off the hook for that bowl of soup you owed me.  :)

Looks like you can add Kameron Norton as "missing" for Augie. Out with a concussion.

Everything I've heard is that Connolly is in much better shape and capable of playing 20 minutes if needed.  His limited minutes through the first two games (10 vs BU, 8 vs AU), I think, are more a function of matchups.  So far he's just been used as a straight sub for Doug Sexauer at the 5, because playing both Connolly and Sexauer together would tough defensively vs smaller, more perimeter-oriented teams like Benedictine and Aurora.  But when IWU plays teams with a traditional "4" and "5" together, I think we'll see Connolly play a lot more.

The lineup with Connolly and Sexauer playing together was the difference in IWU's NCAA win over Carthage last year at Stevens Point.  It's very hard to defend both of them.

Yes, Connolly looks to be in very good shape this year.  He's a big boy, but he moves easily and his soft touch around the basket and with free throws is impressive.  He was in and out for Sexauer, except (I believe) for the final play, when they were both on the court.  He looked to be able go a lot longer if needed.

I think you are correct Titan Hoosier.  Connolly has dropped weight, looked in shape and was not always the last man down the court on defense.  His playing minutes seemed more a function of the quickness of the other teams players on the court as both Aurora and Ripon attempted to speed up the game.

Avery sprained his ankle last week and had to sit out the opener. He looked to be walking on it fine when I saw him last night, and I think he'll be in the lineup against Edgewood tomorrow. Collins should be back in January.

North Park's JV defeated the Dominican JV in double overtime last night by a score of 99-92, in spite of the fact that the Vikings lost two starters to sprained ankles during the course of the game. Haris Habibovic led the Vikings with 21 points, while Deon Lockhart had 17, Stephawn Woodley had a 14 and 11 double-double, Josh McNaughton and Nate Rummel had 13 apiece, and Rob Robinson finished with 12 points.

I had an interesting discussion at the scorer's table with one of the refs. Dominican's JV coach, former Calvin star Sam Hargraves, only called one timeout during regulation, and none of his players called any. The rules state that you get one extra full timeout for each overtime, so DU went back up to its full complement of six timeouts at the start of the first extra stanza. Hargraves then used another one, so when the game went into the second overtime, the Stars again went back up to their full complement of six timeouts.  I was curious as to whether or not a team could exceed the start-of-game supply of six timeouts, and the ref told me that, yes, you can end the game with more timeouts than you started with.

For those of you for whom this reference sailed completely over your heads, one of the UWW football posters promised that his Warhawks would deliver a "triple monkey stomp" to North Central should UWW and NCC meet up in the D3 football playoffs.

When is Kameron Norton likely to be back in action and how did he get his concussion? It's important to have him back, but at least Augie has a lot of depth at his position. Any injuries at the strating guard position will really test Augie, as they are only playing with one true guard in the starting lineup now (DeSimone).

OT:  Noreen saw quality minutes in the WVA defeat to the Gophers last night in Puerto Rico.  My source tells me Noreen has gained over 25 pounds since leaving MN.  More importantly, Viking HC Brad Childress is finally gone!!  I've desired his ousting prior to the Vikings drafting Adrian Peterson!!!
