Steve D. wins the CCIW POTW award. I'm not going to take the time to tally 'em up right now, but if I'm not mistaken he's now tied Kent Raymond for the all-time lead in POTW awards.

safe to say he'll hold the all-time lead before the season up, eh?   ::)

Certainly not CCIW POTW kind of numbers, but Matt Schick had a really good week off the bench for IWU...

* 12.7 ppg/5.0 rpg/2.3 apg/3.50 A:TO

* 13-21 FG (.619)

* 5-10 3-pt (.500)

* 7-8 FT (.875)

Schick is just such a solid player - does so many things well and just knows how to play the game.  Here is a blog entry I made about Schick 4 years ago, when he made his decision to attend IWU...

As advertised, I think Schick just does a lot of things to help the team win.  Great to see him getting so many minutes (25 per game).

Not much question of that.

I couldn't resist, so I tallied 'em up: Raymond and Djurickovic each have won the POTW eleven times. Interestingly, there were two weeks where they shared the award.

It could be a long, long time before we see two guys in this league playing the same position during overlapping careers who were that good.

Is the Augustana-Washington University live stream working for anyone else here?  Bears lead 15-14.

Incidentally, the live stats had Dylan Richter in the game, though it could have been a simple mistake.

Working fine for me.

So far, somehow, Augie can't get the ball inside against man-to-man defense...all jumpshots.

Dylan Richter is playing.

Augustana 78
Wash U 55

Augie out-rebounded Wash U by 16...that tells the story.

I guess Augie's inability to get the ball inside against the Wash U.  man to man defense didn't matter too much tonight. One of the high points was Augie making virtually all of their FTs. Hopefully that will continue the rest of the season, as the Vikings' FT shooting last year was not pretty.

A really good win for Augie, but  Wash U. looks to be a far cry from their teams of the Sean Wallis era. The game this weekend against an Anderson team with 4 starters and their 6th man returning should be a tougher test for Augie, but so far so good.

Chris and Dan indicated on their broadcast that Wash U played almost exclusively zone in the second half.

The Live Stats show Dylan Richter with 6 points for Wash U. Augie was led by Chris Anderson with 20 points including 4 3s and Kyle Nelson with 18 points and 11 boards.

My man to man comment was tongue in cheek. I think Titan Q was referring to Augie's efforts when the score was 15-14 Wash U. Later in the first half Augie built up a big lead against the man to man in no small partr thanks to great rebounding.

I commented on this on the Top 25 board, but to me the interesting stat of the game was the fact that Mark Edwards trotted 15 different players out onto the court for Wash U -- and it's not as though he conceded the game and threw in the scrubs at the end (Spencer Gay played until the final buzzer, f'rinstance). Fifteen players is a lot of bodies for a team facing a Top 25 opponent in the opponent's building. It smacks to me of a bit of roulette on the part of Edwards. Then again, the man's got two national championship rings as a head coach and I don't, so I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

Ah, I see.

Should be a good in-region game this weekend when #14 Anderson travels to #24 Augustana on Saturday.  That should be a good early season test for both teams.

Wheaton 92
Whitewater 66

If Whitewater ends up being the 2nd best team in the WIAC this year (which I doubt will happen), then it's not a good year to the north.

Wheaton looked tremendous tonight.

What I'm most curious about though, does a 26 point win qualify as a triple monkey stomp?

For those of you for whom this reference sailed completely over your heads, one of the UWW football posters promised that his Warhawks would deliver a "triple monkey stomp" to North Central should UWW and NCC meet up in the D3 football playoffs.

Thanks for clearing that up.  I wondered how such a colorful phrase popped into regular use so quickly, having never heard of it!

Agreed.  Last year Augie won @ Anderson by 7...

Regardless of what the ratings say, I have to believe Augustana is a pretty heavy favorite in that game.

Augie is playing a great non-conference schedule.
