Q, I see you have Hope against Wheaton as an in region game. Wouldn't that be out of region, as you have Hope and Calvin against Carthage? However, it looks likew your in region game total of 64 is correct. I see the CCIW going 36-28 overall, but I'm an o[ptimist and figure Elmhurst will win at least 1 and Millikin one more in region game. Also I do not see IWU, Carthage or Wheaton losing any remaing in region games. Augie has the toughest schedule, but I think they lose two at the most probably one for sure at the St. Norvert tourney. Still not a great record for the CCIW but better than 33-31.

(Hope v. Calvin should be in region, but the NCAA mapping software has it at 202 miles; I could do it in 190! ;)

Hmm; you must be going from Grand Rapids to Holland via Battle Creek to hit 190 on the odometer. ;)

I know, I know; you meant Wheaton vs. Calvin. Sorry, couldn't resist. ;)

Touche! ;D  Of course I did mean Calvin v Wheaton. :-[

In fairness, the NCAA mapping software may even have it correct in terms of how any reasonable person would actually drive it.  But I guarantee it could be done in less. ;)

AndOne

The young NCC Cardinals took another small step in their development Wed night with a victory over visiting Albion (MI) College.
Once again employing their new "Spider" defense that had been unveiled last Sun afternoon in their defeat of then #25 Manchester, the Cards made use of their superior athleticism and speed to pressure the more physically imposing visitors into 14 TOs which they converted into 19 points. Seemingly feeding off their defensive efforts, North Central duplicated that success on the offensive end by very efficiently moving the ball and finding the open man, especially on the interior where the Cards registered 34 of their 72 points from inside the paint.
Many of those points resulted from a superior passing game which proved responsible for the Cards chalking up assists on 19 of their 24 (of 48 attempts) field goals on the night. Senior Brian Evans and fellow starter, freshman Vince Kmiec led the way with 5 helpers each. Kmiec , who did not commit a single TO in his 32 minutes of action turned in a very nice all around game also adding 14 points on 4 of 8 shooting, including 3/7 on 3s and 3/4 FTs.
North Central was led in scoring by junior PG Kevin Gillespie with 16, establishing a new career high for the 2nd game in a row. Freshman CJ Goldthree came off the bench to slash his way through the Albion defense, taking the ball to the basket to convert 2 of 4 FGS and to draw fouls which resulted in his hitting 5 of 6 FTs for a total of 9 points. Fellow freshman reliever Landon Gamble banked 4 tough inside baskets, and pulled down 5 rebounds. Goldthree and Gamble each saw 18 minutes of PT. Freshman starter Jack Burchett continued to provide a nice inside presence and was successful on 4 of 5 FG attempts for 8 points to go with his game high 7 boards in his 17 minutes of action. Derek Raridon added 11 points including the last 3 points of the game on FTs over the final 22 seconds to cap the Cardinal victory.

So breaking this down...

The CCIW is 19-14 in-region as we speak...31 projected in-region games to play.

Probable Wins - CCIW a clear favorite (11-0)
IWU vs Chicago (12/4)
IWU vs MacMurray (12/11)
Augie vs Buena Vista (12/11)
Augie vs UW-Whitewater (12/15)
IWU @ Wash U (12/18)
Augie @ MacMurray (12/20)
North Central @ Rockford (12/27)
Augie vs UW-Stout (12/29)
IWU @ Cal Lutheran (12/30)
Augie @ Chicago (1/2)
Cathage @ Transylvania (1/2)

Probable Losses - CCIW a clear underdog (0-8)
Millikin @ Aurora (12/4)
Elmhurst @ Westminster (12/5)
Elmhurst vs Loras (12/11)
Elmhurst vs Aurora (12/20)
Millikin @ Transylvania (12/20)
Elmhurst vs Oshkosh (12/21)
Elmhurst vs Depauw (12/29)
Elmhurst vs Calvin or Benedictine (12/30)

Swing Games - complete toss-up (?)
Wheaton vs Hope (12/4)
North Park @ Trine (12/4)
North Central vs Lake Forest (12/7)
Elmhurst vs Kalamazoo (12/9)
Wheaton vs Wash U (12/11)
North Park @ Spalding (12/11)
North Park vs MSOE (12/13)
North Park @ Coe (12/19)
North Park @ Loras (12/20)
North Central @ Benedictine (12/22)
Augie @ St. Norbert (12/30)
Millikin vs St. Mary's, MN (12/29)

Obviously I was very pessimistic on the swing games when I projected 33-31...that would mean 3-9 in those.  (14-17 the rest of the way gets us to my 33-31.)  Now that North Park and North Central are playing well, I'll admit that 3-9 is probably too low...even for a conservative projection.  6-6 might be a little more fair, which would get us exactly to your 36-28 (.563).  I may start using that.

Hope we take care of business in all of the "probable win games", steal a few of the "probable losses", and go 9-3 in the swing games.

North Park (@ Trine) and Wheaton (vs Hope) with big in-region games this weekend.

Need to get Elmhurst going...big game at SLIAC contender Westminster this weekend.  (Fulton, Mo is just 25 miles from Columbia, but my wife and I are heading to Vegas today for a half marathon Sunday...so I'll miss the only CCIW game in my backyard this season.)

Q, Which half of the marathon do you have to run? Remember what happens in Vegas.......

Right down the strip...from Mandalay Bay to downtown, and back to the start.

Staying at The Hotel (connected to Mandalay Bay)...should be fun.

Sorry to break from topic, but we do talk about broadcasting on this board from time to time.  That being said, it's a sad day for Cub fans with the passing of Ron Santo.  He was truly a legend on the field and in the booth.  How he is not in the HOF is completely baffling.  I know he broke about every broadcasting rule there is, but he did it with passion, and I, for one, loved him for it.  Hopefully he will be calling games with Harry this summer.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

After Jim Rice made the Hall of Fame, I read about an east coast voter bias.  The Twin fan could not believe that the voters rejected Harmon Killebrew two times before voting him into the Hall.  Mind you that when Harmon entered the Hall he was fifth on the HR list!  Jim Rice is not Hall material.  Santo is.

I am so jacked for this CCIW/MIAA do-hickey tonight that I can't wait for the work day to end so I can hit 294N and bolt up there!  We've got four teams worth watching.  What other boardsters are going to be there tonight?

Impressive Wheaton win over Calvin 86-64.  Wheaton's defense broke open what was a close game right after the second-half started.  It appeared to me Wheaton dominated the inside game and shot well for being on the road.  We may be seeing the start of something big for the Thunder.

Mr. Ypsi

Carthage up on Hope at the half, 38-32.  Carthage opened up a 15-point lead with 7 to go, but then went ice cold and the Dutch had an 11-0 run over the next five minutes.  Steve D. has 15, no one else on either team in double digits.  Refs seem to have lost their whistles (good!) - only Krombeen and Bowser of Hope have even two fouls.

The Hope run has continued into the second half, Carthage now down 8 with 6 minutes to play:

And Carthage responds with an 11-0 run of their own!  With 1:37 to go, Carthage leads 69-66.

Carthage now up 1 with 8 seconds left, Hope ball.  Good game.

Carthage wins, but their rebounding is going to be a big problem...

Mr. Ypsi

Steve D's 31 points were just barely enough - Krombeen misses a jumper with 1 tick on the clock and Carthage survives, 71-70.
