"The Ohio Wesleyan game" (Elite 8 game, 1987-88 season) was 2 years before by freshman season at IWU, but I've heard the name Scott Tedder many times over the years as IWU fans talk about this one...

http://bishops.owu.edu/2010-11/ohiobbhof.html

I think most Titan fans consider the 1987-88 squad to be IWU's best in the Division III era.  (Seems to always come down to that team or the 1995-96 Titans who fell to the controversial Rowan team in the final seconds in Salem.)

Two quick fouls on Bracksick and one spectacular no call against OWU...    Oh...what could have been against OWU and Rowan.    Friends of mine will recall my daughter made up a song that was a take off of the popular Christmas song on way to VA in 1996.....Rowan got run over by our fan bus...... on their way to the final four.  It was even more loudly sung on the way home.

As usual Dansand is ready with the true story. It certainly was unfair to lump Kyle Nelson in with the other bigs at Augie, when it comes to FT shooting. He's 20-24 (.833) for the season to date. Voiles has done pretty well too.

However, it would be interesting to have the stats on Augie's FT shooting percentage in the final minutes of their last 3 games. It seems like that is the point in the game where a lot of the misses occur. But for a key rebound by Nelson on a missed FT against Anderson, Augie might have loss that one.

I guess the fact that the team shot above 90% at the FT line in the first two games created great expectations. Since then the FT% in the last 3 games has been 60.9%, which is too much like last year's team. Hopefully Augie can get to the 70% FT level from here on out, which will lead to less nail biting at the end of the many close games Augie is likely to face as this season progresses.

Turnovers and FT shooting continue to be the questions for this team, but they've managed them so far. I would've like to see them finish Ambrose off the way they did Wash U. but the outcome was never really in doubt (SAU never had the ball with the score closer than 7 points in the last 17 minutes) and I'm happy with a seven-point win over a ranked opponent in a rivalry game.

All of the big guys are challenged at the FT line

Augie's big guys are a combined 49 of 67 (.731) at the line this year.

I'm a bit surprised that last night's games got nothing more than a cursory scoring announcement here. It looks as though Wheaton had a lot of trouble at home last night, going right down to the wire at home with a Trinity International team that really isn't anything special. And Elmhurst got taken down to the wire as well at Faganel Hall, as Kalamazoo -- a program that has been pretty close to rock-bottom in recent years and which came into the game with a 1-5 record -- actually had a chance to tie at the buzzer on a trey attempt that rimmed out to give the 'jays the win. Sounds like Zack Boyd carried the team on his back to victory, scoring 22 of his career-high 26 points in the second half. That's well over half of what the 'jays scored as a team in the second stanza.

Just curious if anyone who saw one of the games has a comment.

I was surprised as well Greg, and when I didn't see anything I went looking for the scores. That's why I posted what I found but had no idea about the opponents so had nothing further to add except what I saw in the box scores.

I will say I am surprised Trinity scored that much on Wheaton who has established themselves as a pretty pesky defensive group thus far.

TIU has actually done pretty well against D-III teams... they beat La Crosse and Bethel at Bethel's tournament earlier in the year.  I dunno if it's just a coincidence or what.

Yeah, but Bethel's 2-6 and is by all reports in the MIAC room a bottom-dweller this season. And I don't know what to make of a UW-LaCrosse team that loses at home to lowly Otterbein.

IWU gets 6-6 forward John Koschnitzky back today...

http://www.pantagraph.com/sports/college/basketball/men/article_6324e98c-04df-11e0-9172-001cc4c03286.html

Koschnitzky (back) will come off the bench tonight vs MacMurray as they slowly work him back in.

Sounds like 6-5 G/F Jordan Zimmer (foot) will be able to start coming off the bench during IWU's 2 games @ the Cal Lutheran tournament (Dec 29-30).  I don't see Zimmer starting until about mid-January.

Getting these two back will be very big for the Titans.  They're both significant difference makers - Zimmer is guy opposing defenses can't leave anywhere on the perimeter, and Koschnitzky brings needed athleticism to the floor and is a versatile inside/outside player.  The Titans have not been anywhere near the same without these two so far in 2010-11.

There is a chance IWU could actually end up a better team due to the injuries because of all of the experience other players have been getting.  We'll see.

NPU beat Judge Smale's nephew 81-69 this afternoon.

Carthage just lost in OT 93-88 to Albion. Steve D. had 36, but he cannot do it alone. A bad loss for the CCIW co-favorite and the conference in general.

NOT an in-region game, so all but irrelevant for pool C purposes.

Spalding didn't post a box score, so it's hard to glean any info about this game other than what's given in the Spalding writeup, which indicated that NPU mostly won due to its size in the low post (although Ro Russell was the leading scorer with 15 points). But the Vikings really weren't able to pull away from a team I expected them to beat handily, which is discouraging.

Still, when a team spends five hours on a bus to Louisville and shortly thereafter walks off their opponent's floor with a double-digit victory, I suppose that the phrase "it's all good" is appropos.

It's still a bad loss in terms of how the league stacks up against its peers. The consensus in the MIAA room is that Albion (3-3) is down this season, and even if the Britons were their usual solid selves that's a game that the CCIW preseason favorite should win in its own gym.

Incidentally, Steve D. had 40 according to the box score, not 36, with six assists to boot. And Malcom Kelly had a nice game, scoring 24, while Tyler Pierce added a dozen points. But Mitch Thompson (2 pts, 1-4 FG), Max Cary (2 pts, 1-6 FG), and Raul Guzman (2 pts, 1-2 FG) were all AWOL, and the Red Men got outrebounded by 15. That's a team that's floundering, and if there's any consolation at all for Bosko & Co. it's that they're certainly not alone in terms of CCIW teams that really haven't found their footing yet.
