So if Augie wins the CCIW Tourney,  do you think the CCIW gets only 1 team into the tournament?

Now, that won't happen - NCC will win the tourney unless IWU shooters shoot the lights out. Other than that, its NCC to win the Conference Championship.

It's more like, "Augie Who"?

Better bring some more light bulbs!

Go TITANS!

This much-anticipated season started off with high spirits for the Carthage program-- ranked about preseason #6, beat the defending national champions in the first scrimmage, and nowhere to go but up...

Things did not quite pan out for Carthage Nation-bummer. Well, the young guys may come back with a vengeance and the seniors will go pro 'in something other than sports' (except, of course, for Steve D who's got some ankle-breaking jukes and free throws yet to contribute to some team.)

I am studying at Des Moines University's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. There are 9 podiatry programs in the USA, and each year there is a big basketball tournament. Next year, Barry University in Miami is hosting-- I am sad that Steve D did not focus on natural science coursework and pursue podiatry as it would be fun to see him make some noise here. He has his head on straight, and it will be exciting to see what he does.

Well, D3 basketball is 'negative study fly', so I think I am out until 2011-2012.

Unless, I either think of a funny Milikin joke (because Milikin is the new North Park (whatever that means kinda like whatever 'Carthage Nation' means) or unless people want to discuss why I think becoming a Christian though perhaps seemingly irrelevant, is actually the most important decision one can make...

To the top half of the conference- Have fun at CCIW's and perhaps beyond!

Prescription run out?

I'm not good at remembering things, but I think Oshkosh was ranked #2 in the preseason.  I always get my seasons mixed up, but Lawrence topped them at The Alex in one of the first games of the season.  It might have also been the year LU went undefeated in the regular season because I almost picked LU but didn't because of that Oshkosh game at the biginning of the season.  But like I said, I tend to mix my seasons together.

I knew that UWO had been high one preseason.

That's how ugly rumors get started.   ;)

Though that could explain their drastic drop from #2. :o ;)

It's interesting how just a couple of weeks ago people were speculating about the possibility of Augie being the first team in 38 years to run the table in CCIW play ... and yet, at the end of the day, Augie and North Central tied for the title with comparatively pedestrian 11-3 records.

This makes five times in the past six seasons that the CCIW champion or champions has finished with an 11-3 record.

I don't know if Augie considers their 11-3 conference "pedestrian" or not and I know North Central sure as hell doesn't!

In losing 3 of their last 5 games after being undefeated through their 1st 20, perhaps the word at Augie is "disappointed."

I believe the word at North Central may be "proud."  And proud is what the Cardinals should feel after having been picked to finish 6th, and using that as one of their motivational points in their improbable climb to to the league co-championship. "Elated" is also applicable as the Cardinals are elated to be hosting the CCIW tournament in the hangar this weekend.

Lastly, if both Augie and North Central are considered "pedestrian" at 11-3 in a league which the majority of us who post regularly on here have, for some time now, fostered as one of the two best D3 basketball conferences in the country, what word would you use to describe a 4-10 league mark?

Just a question, who is the most "sideline animated" coach in the CCIW?

After watching the Augustana coaching staff roam and rant with no technical fouls in sight last night, Grey Giovanine gets my vote, although Bosko has to be on the first team somewhere.

Thoughts?

Bosko barks, i.e., provides guidance, at his players more than any other coach during the game.  (Less so now than when he was at North Park.)  Raridon whines and whines the most.  EC's coach displays the most classless behavior when he yells at his players, e.g., "keep your head up" and "remember to box out", while the opponent shoots a free throw in a quiet gym.  I concur:  GG is the most animated.

Augie falls to 2nd in the region, but would still be a Pool C lock.  IWU falls out entirely; we're definitely a 1-team conference unless someone other than Augie wins the tourney (in case anyone wasn't yet sure of that).

Augie may be in for a bigger fall, this doesn't include last night's loss. (based on results through 2/20)

I, of course, am overjoyed at NCC's co-championship. Most fans first 2 thoughts, in either order, about their finish are probably that they really rose above the expectations of most, and that they now get to host the conference tourney.

However, I think one of the benefits is that Todd Raridon gets very deserved recognition for the job he did in molding, motivating, and directing a very young North Central contingent to this position. Truly, no other coach took his team further above what was predicted. I realize Augie was picked for 3rd and finished tied for 1st. Definitely a nice accomplishment. However, Todd took a team picked for 6th to the co-champion position. In the process he beat the number 2 and number 3 regionally ranked teams. A recognition VERY well deserved.

Kudos also go to assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Todd Kelly, who supervised the commitment of the best freshman class NCC has had in what seems just about forever and who, as a group, were so largely responsible for NCC's ascent this season.

Not only do I agree, but I would go further and say that NCC's freshman class could, at this point and based upon this season's accomplishments, be placed in a discussion of some of the better CCIW freshman classes in recent memory.  Of course, recent memory is a nice escape hatch if proven to be needed.   ::)

True.  By the same token, IWU might be able to work itself back in after last night's win.
