It's on a local webstream. The site is fairly ridiculous in terms of design, but it's on there.

Thanks, Pat. I agree with you; the design is a little off.

Hope is the fastest paced team of the four and its by a wide margin.  The Hope/Hanover game looks to be a great clash of styles with a pretty significant difference in possessions per game of nearly 30, one of the widest in the 1st round.  Augustana and Webster are nearly identical in pace, but a full 15 behind Hope.  Either way, the 2nd round game figures to be another clash of styles.

Sac, if you see this, I was wondering what formula you are using for possesions since it seems that a difference of 30 per game is pretty huge for a non "system" team.  If it is true, I hope Augie doesn't have to play them as that may be a disadvantage with all our big guys having to get up and down the court.

Possessions = Field Goal attempts - Offensive rebounds + Turnovers + .475*(Free Throw Attempts)

Look at the scores... Augie has had 5 games where they didn't break 60 (one where they didn't even break 50) and 12 games where they didn't break 70.  They had 4 games north of 80 and didn't have any games in the 90's.

Hope had 6 games where they didn't break 70 and just one where they didn't break 60.  They were north of 80 14 times, broke 90 7 times and 100 3 times... and even scores 110 in a game.

If you look purely at field goal attempts per game, Hope averages 60 field goals per game and Augie averages 51.  If you double that, that's 18 more shots taken per game... and it doesn't take into account other instances where a possession occurs.

I guess I don't understand why you are doubling the number.  I'd think that if Hope had 9 more shots a game, then the difference in the 2 teams' possesions would be roughly 9 (assuming all else is equal)....what part of this am I missing?  I must be making it more difficult than it is.

Hope averages 9 more field goals per game, thus their opponents also shoot 9 more field goals per game.  That's where the 30 extra possessions (15 offensive, 15 defensive) comes from.

The possession calculation isn't foolproof... the piece that I have often wondered about is the .475 multiplier for free throw attempts... This number may be higher or lower for different teams, but it's fixed in this calculation and so there will be some discrepancies...  But if you look at the other pieces, they really go into what defines a possession... the shots you take (doesn't matter if they're 2's or 3's) minus the offensive rebounds (no additional possession here...) plus turnovers.  How else can a possession be defined?

Ok, well your explanation makes sense but I guess it's a little different than how I had always seen the possesion stat displayed thus why I thought a difference of 30 was really big.  A difference of 15 is less drastic to me.  To me, it was always just reported as the number of your team's possesions, so the numbers were in the range of 55-70.  Thanks for the explanation.

It occurred to me this morning as I'm preparing to leave that should Hope give me reason to stay around on Saturday, I'm going to have all day in town prior to the 7:00 finals tomorrow. Any suggestions for stuff located in the quad cities while we're there? Is there anything going on Saturday afternoon?

I assume there will be some CCIW posters around tonight so I'll say hello here in advance.

the quad cities are the armpit of America - find a good bomb shelter and hunker down.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Webster fan here traveling up to Rock Island today...any good recommendations for dinner?  How is the nightlife in Rock Island?  Any good spots on a Friday night?

La rancherita has great authentic mexican. Also, poor boys has great pizza and sandwiches both close to the augie campus. As for night life the district has a bunch of bars that are decent. Also, if you wanna travel like 5 mins the village in davenport is a good scene.

When you hear people say "The islands are beautiful this time of year!"

They mean all of the islands except for Rock Island.

I would lurk around the gym and ask if you can help set up chairs, clean the light bulbs on the scoreboard, take out garbage, or other things they might need help with for the game.

There are actually many good restaurants in the QC, but my favorite is Bass Street Chop House on River Drive in Moline.  It's only about 5 minutes from campus and is excellent.  Nice wine list too.

As for nightlife, there are several brew pubs that are pretty good, and don't forget about the riverboats.

So.. the worst SID in the history of the CCIW is writing travel guides now -- Would have thought restaurant reviews would have been more up your alley!

So, this long time Titan fan moved to Moline on Wednesday.  I plan on going to the game tonight.  Will I be allowed back in the Shirk if I go and cheer for Augie?  Will it be safe to wear green to the game?

Thanks for the tips about the QCA since we'll be spending much more than a night here.  Already had a Belgian Inn reuben (amazing), some Happy Joe's pizza (all right), and Whitey's ice cream (perfect).

I love Augie but the QC are a little lacking in amenities. There are a couple of casinos, if that is your thing, but I think (laugh if you will) that a visit to the John Deere Museum near the Radisson in nearby Moline is worth a visit, if only to get sticker shock at the price of a new combine. There is also a minor league hockey team in the QC that might being playing this weekend, if two BB games is not enough sports.

As for restaurants there is one on the river in Davenport near the Iowa casino that my daughters used to like, plus a brew pub or two in nearby downtown R. I. Sorry I don;t remember the names, but it's been 10 years since daughter #3 graduated.

Go Augie!

I don't think IWU will take River Falls lightly at all.   I, too, hope that it will be a darn good game.  I also hope IWU's history of knocking off the first and second ranked teams in the country in the playoffs, continues.

Who are we Northwestern??  ???  :D ;D ;)
