Looks like the Pantagraph is working on stories for Dylan Overstreet, Brandon Heyen, and Connor Wheeler...will probably be updated by tomorrow I would think.

Q, that's five pretty good players announced for IWU already.  Are there more coming?  Looks like a good crop to date, allowing for a strong JV program to continue.  Pretty hard to replace Sexauer, Rosenkranz and Johnson (and the other seniors), but I'm actually quite optimistic about the overall roster that IWU has again for next season with Connolly, Davis, Kman, Zimmer times two, Gonzales, Rudnicki, Zeimnick, N. Johnson, upcoming JV players, plus all these new guys.  Looks pretty promising for Ron Rose and the Titan's program next season.  Let's hope the injury bug doesn't bite again . . . knock on wood.  Hope all these guys are hitting the weight room, getting stronger, quicker and better for the next go'round.

Any other recruits coming?  How about recruits on the women's side?

WHEATON COLLEGE NEWS

While not pertaining to basketball, and I apologize to the basketball purists, I am posting this bit of CCIW related news as often various posters will venture into other CCIW sports. In this instance I do so in hopes that the information will be of interest to our Wheaton fans, and to CCIW fans in general as it pertains to athletic funding at the D3 level, and specifically to a CCIW member institution.

Sources at Wheaton College indicated late yesterday that after eliminating funding of 5 sports a year ago, it was reinstating funding of 4 of those sports. Men's and women's golf, men's tennis, and men's indoor track will once again receive financial backing from the school. All but men's indoor track were funded this year by a group of supporters rather than the WC athletic department. It was also announced that WC will consider adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport in 2014. Funds had previously been cut due to a decline in Wheaton's endowment. However, a large part of that loss has been recovered due to a rebound in the stock market over the past year.
The 5th sport cut, women's water polo, will become a club sport.

No need to apologize, Mark, as over the years this room (as opposed to the CCIW football, baseball, men's soccer, women's soccer, and women's basketball rooms) has become the default space for general CCIW discussion.

I don't think that the football guys will mind that you posted it in that room as well, but you're much less likely to get any discussion about it in there than you are in here.

Agree with Greg.  Thanks Mark.  Other than baseball, I don't usually look at other CCIW sites on this board.

Is it common for colleges to gamble with chunks of their endowment in the stock market?

you betcha - big time.

i believe wheaton was also stung in a large scam several years ago that cost quite a few Christian schools a large segment of their endowments.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

I think finding an institution of higher learning that did not invest a large percentage of its endowment fund assets in the stock market would be like finding a needle in the proverbial haystack.

Again, using Wheaton only as an example, the WC endowment fund decreased from $322 million to $251 million for the period of 6/08 through 6/09. This was a decrease of 22% in net fund assets.
Its highly doubtful that most schools didn't suffer similar percentage declines in their funds. Also, I believe Wheaton's  endowment fund balance is higher than a vast majority of the nation's schools---at least those in D3, so they are prob in a better position financially than most schools.

I'd have to look at the list closer, but I'm guessing Wheaton's endowment is in the ballpark of #30 in terms of NCAA Division III schools.

Dennis:  can you post a link about the scandal?  I know that the Quakers lost $ due to embezzlement a few years ago, but have not heard of something as large as you suggest.
