As of the first day of New Student Orientation, this is NPU's class of '15:

Jon Bogaard, 6'1, Santa Cruz, CA (Harbor)
Eric Dahl, 6'3, Poqueson, VA (Poqueson)
Trent Kucera, 5'10, Hutchinson, MN (Hutchinson)
Brett McArthur, 6'0, Center Line, MI (Center Line)
Reggie McGee, 6'2, Rockford, IL (Christian Life)

There's a couple of others who are in the sorting-out-the-financial-aid process who might be enrolled in time as well.

It's a small freshman class, both in terms of numbers and player size. I suspected that North Park was not going to get its usual 8-12 freshmen this year, due to Paul Brenegan's departure and the fact that the program didn't have a head coach during the crucial two-month window in the spring in which most prospects make their college decision. Chris Edquist really had an uphill battle recruiting for North Park over the past five months. If any of these guys pan out -- several of them had very good high-school careers, although that doesn't mean anything now -- it'll be a real tribute to Chris's hard work in the face of some serious obstacles.

NPU also has a pair of incoming transfers:

Mark Holmes, JR, 6'6, River Grove, IL (Guerin / Mississippi Valley State)
Patrick McCarthy, SO, 6'1, Chicago, IL (St. Rita / Moraine Valley CC)

Mark Holmes really has the coaches excited. As you can see, he played for Dylan Howard at MVSU, where he appeared in over fifty games over the course of his two seasons as a Delta Devil. Last year he was a regular member of the MVSU rotation, seeing over eight minutes of action per game in 29 games, although his numbers were modest; he averaged a little over two points and a rebound a game, with his most prominent stat the 42% he shot from downtown. He's a 6'6, 215 wing that probably didn't have the ability to shine at the D1 level in what is big-time college basketball's marquee position (small forward), but the word is that he could be a very solid small forward on this level. We'll see. If nothing else, he should help give the Park a pretty big front line, playing alongside fellow D1 transfer Mike Gabriel (6'8, 225) and Emanuel Crosby (6'7, 240), with last year's starting small forward, 6'4 Kendell Greer, moving to the off guard spot.

Elmhurst college is in the news: http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/Elmhurst-College-to-Ask-About-Sexual-Orientation--128378348.html?

I hope the other CCIW schools do not start doing this (I know WC won't).

I understand other posters will disagree with me on this (what new?).
So EC says if you indicate you're a L, G, B, or T your declaration won't play a role in the admission process. BUT, if you are admitted you could qualify for a scholarship of up to ONE THIRD of tuition! Sorry, but if I'm a straight white, african-american, asian, latino, hispanic, or anything else, I'm a little pissed off. Why can't I get ONE THIRD off MY tuition?

**Good recruiting tool though---Mr. 6'8" power forward who averages 17 ppg and 9 rpg along with having a nice GPA and ACT score, and who just happens to be gay, is considering EC and some other CCIW (or non-conference) school. He nabs an EC Presidential Scholarship plus his new "LGDT" Scholarship, and Elmhurst is practically going to pay him to come to school! Maybe its new strategy on how to keep such a high percentage of the tall kids from migrating west!  :)   ???

Also, is there going to be a LGBT monitor to make sure an applicant who comes in LGB or T doesn't suddenly "go straight" at a latter date?

It's an interesting and thought-provoking issue to say the least.  AndOne certainly brings up some very valid points.  For those who compare this to Affirmative Action, or increasing various racial and ethnic minorities in a school campus, I think there are definitely some differences.

As AndOne points out, this really seems like it could be manipulated in a number of different ways.  This could arguably save a student over 10,000 per year.  With our economy in the current state that it is, saving that much over a 4 year period is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

To be clear, I am not criticizing the actual policy.  A debate along those lines does not belong on these boards.  What I am interested in seeing, is how this would be enforced and monitored.  One cannot lie about being African-American, or Muslim, or any number of other racial or ethnic identities.  One could certainly lie about this.  And for those who would suggest it is a cynical view of society, people have done a lot worse for a lot less.

Only my opinion, thought I'd share.

Where are we headed as a society?.........

Completely agree with said response at the end of the article (pasted below).

"In defending their decision to include a question about 'sexual orientation,' by asserting an offensive and absurd comparison of race to a condition constituted by subjective desire and volitional sexual acts, Elmhurst College administrators reveal their own ignorance," said David E. Smith, executive director of Illinois Family Institute, in a statement.

Well, not on this one, at any rate. While the ramifications of the new Elmhurst policy and the scholarship make for a fascinating discussion of institutional management, the underlying subject matter is incendiary, and continuing the discussion here will only send this room off on a rabbit trail of politics, morality, values, social expression, religious belief, and a lot of other culture-war subjects that we have always taken great pains to avoid debating in this room.

There's already a place that Pat set aside on this website for this type of discussion. This particular room is not the place for it.

I wonder where 6' 5" Kyle Noreen committed.  His brother finished his first year with Bob Huggins, and the younger allegedly had several DI offers from the likes of Liberty and Dusquene (sp?).  Their dad and/or uncle played for North Park.

Mark... from an old Pittsburgher, whose first College Basketball games watched live in person were at the sparkling new Civic Arena in Pittsburgh watching 5'9" Willie Somerset launch jump shots from everywhere for the Dukes, it's Duquesne        ;)

Thanks for the info though the Radford roster has not been updated from last year and I did not see a signee press release on their athletics page.

Maybe I missed something...what is with "child" when connecting to this webpage?

Just wanted to inform the board that Mr. Dave Lawrenz from Wheaton College, a long-time friend and fan of a lot of people, is in the hospital.  Not too sure of the details but please keep him and his family close in your thoughts and prayers.
