I saw the Warhawks play at Igini Sports Forum against Concordia (IL) on opening weekend. UWW is not the powerhouse it usually is. Chris Davis is a load to handle down in the low post, and Luke Knobel is a good player, but this Warhawks team doesn't have the athleticism or the two or three dominant guys who can just take over a ballgame that UWW teams have been known for in the past. Plus, they're young; Davis and Knobel are the only two upperclassmen who were in the rotation for all three games that UWW's played thus far.

North Park 79
Coe 64

Mark Holmes: 23 pts
Christian Alsing: 13 pts
Mike Gabriel: 12 pts
Ro Russell: 10 pts

The Vikings put on quite a shooting exhibition against Coe today, hitting 12 of 24 shots from downtown for a 50% clip. Most of those makes were by Vikings big men, too; Holmes was 4-6, Gabriel was 2-2, and Alsing was 3-6 from behind the arc. I just hope that these guys don't fall in love with the trey, because it's not going to be there every game, and they need to devote more time and effort to pounding the ball inside, especially against a smaller team like Coe.

The first half was close, as NPU only led 34-33 at the break, but the Vikings went on a 16-0 run to take a 52-39 lead with 12:11 left, and they never looked back. All in all, the Vikings had a very solid shooting game, going 54% from the field to match the 50% from downtown. The offense sort of came and went, as the new motion offense remains a work in progress, but you could see glimpses of the kind of damage that the Vikings are capable of doing, even with All-CCIW center Emanuel Crosby having a bad day at the office. Mike Gabriel and Mark Holmes make a very solid tandem at the offensive end of the floor.

My favorite stat was the A:TO line. The Vikings picked up 17 assists and turned the ball over only ten times, with Ro Russell in particular demonstrating the kind of day you want a point guard to have (10 pts, 6 asts, only 1 turnover). Turnovers have been a real problem for NPU to this point; it was good to see the Vikes take care of the ball, even when the Kohawks went to a full-court press.

Tune in to Rob and I tomorrow, as we'll be bringing you the Loras @ NPU game, which is a 4 pm tipoff. I'll be airing my interview with Dylan Howard at halftime. Chicago nipped Loras today in the Ratner Center, 80-75; tomorrow, the two Iowa schools switch sides of the city, as Loras will be at the crackerbox and Coe visits the U of C tomorrow afternoon.

This game was in Naperville, wasn't it?

I was going by the CCIW website, which lists the game as being NCC @ IC, but, yeah, after checking the NCC website I see that it was played at the airplane hangar.

Greg,
Is there a link to your broadcast for today's game against Loras? I went to the North Park Men's basketball website and all they are showing is a link for live stats. Help!!

I see that as well, not sure what the issue is. Hopefully we'll get that fixed as tipoff approaches. The link to check is here: http://athletics.northpark.edu/

and the camcorder should be clickable so folks can watch the game.

Thanks Rob, just in time. And the possibility of watching the game as well is even better.

I also can't get to the link.  Yesterday I was able to access the link, but I ended up at a page requiring registration and the purchase of some type of "subscription."

I watched several NPU broadcasts last year.  Hoping Greg or Rob can explain what we need to do to watch future games.
