Nice link, Greg.  Certainly a +k tonight.

People who frequent this board can find the answer, I'm sure.  You guys are the best.  What is the worst W/L record by a CCIW team (conference preferred) over a three year period post-Millikin stud (last name starts with a G, Dennis).

Thanks in advance.

Leon Gobczynski? His last year for Millikin was 1974-75, and the worst conference record over a three-year period since then was the 5-43 record posted by North Central from 1977-78 thru 1979-80. That's a .104 winning percentage, and in order to avoid setting a new three-year post-Gobczynski low the Big Blue will have to go at least 3-11 in CCIW play this year.

The worst-ever span of three years in league history also belongs to North Central. The Cardinals went 3-45 from 1973-74 thru 1975-76 for an .063 winning percentage. In order to avoid setting a new three-year low for the CCIW, either pre- or post-Gobo, Millikin will have to win a CCIW game this year. That'll get 'em by with an .071 winning percentage for 2009-10 thru 2011-12.

Just to correct D3hoops schedule.  The CCIW/MIAA challenge is in Grand Rapids.  The Website Schedule has Hope at Wheaton at 5:30 tonight.

Thanks. I'll correct it.

Hm. Someone else beat me to it.

Hope 79
Wheaton 78

With Wheaton up by one and inbounding the ball, the Hope press got a backcourt steal and a pair of FTs with nine seconds left. The Dutch converted both for the win.

Hope was up almost the entire game, with a 13-point lead at one point and leads that generally were in the 7-to-10 range for most of the game. One got the impression that Wheaton was not quite prepared for the step up in athleticism that Hope presented, as compared to past Wheaton opponents. But the Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance hung around, finally took the lead for the first time with a minute and a half to go, and took it right down to the final (missed) shot by Garriott. One turnover basically spelled the difference at the end.

Aaron Garriott, who was in foul trouble most of the game but was Wheaton's best player down the stretch, led Wheaton with 23. McCrary had 18 and 8, Peters had 13, and Schultze had 11 and 9. Hope was led by David Krombeen, who was electric this afternoon. He had 28 points. Colton Overway had 14 and Nate Snuggerud had 12 for Hope.

Good luck to the Wheaton women's soccer team tomorrow, playing for the national DIII title in San Antonio, TX.  One more, Thunder ladies.  Make the CCIW proud.

Calvin 71
Carthage 68

Another very entertaining game that went right down to the wire, although the level of play was somewhat lower for both teams than it was in the first CCIW/MIAA Challenge matchup today. Mal Kelly, who led the Red Men with 28 points, had an open look from downtown with seven seconds left that would've put the Red Men up by one, but it rimmed out.

Mitch Thompson added 11 for Carthage. Calvin had two scorers in double figures as well, as Matt DeBoer and Tom Snikkers each had 15.

Calvin outrebounded Carthage, 33-28, had four fewer turnovers than the Red Men, and outshot the visitors from the field to boot, 50% to 45%. The reason why Carthage was in the game until the final buzzer was because of the FT line; the Red Men were a sparkling 93% from the charity stripe (13-14), while Calvin was a horrendous 57% (13-23). The Knights missed two of four in the game's final half-minute, which is why Kelly had a chance to redeem himself by tying it with a desperation shot at the horn that turned out to be off-target.

One of those classic mystifying rotations tonight by Bosko Djurickovic, who played some guys a lot of minutes early who never saw the floor in the second half, and a couple of guys went all the way down the stretch (Ryan Chapman and Pace Bennett) who never even saw the floor in the first half. Bosko used fourteen players tonight. He had everybody but John "the Voice of the Red Men" Weiser take the floor for his team tonight.

I'm not quite sure what to think of Calvin yet.

It looked like the JV game after watching Hope/Wheaton. Your comment is frontrunner for understatement of the year on the d3 board.

For some reason Wheaton was the designated 'home' team.  They wore white, sat on the home bench (that's actually not unusual when Hope's involved at Calvin), and were the home team on the scoreboard.

I don't think anyone beat you to it. The team-by-team schedules just don't list neutral sites. The day-by-day schedules do, however.

A reminder I will be tweeting before and during the Illinois Wesleyan-Webster game at Shirk Center tonight with score updates and various observations. Anyone interested in following may do so at twitter.com/Pg_Reinhardt
I've always thought if Gorloks are involved, it's got to be fun.  :D
