Titan Q

Final from Kenosha:

Lake Forest 63
Carthage 60

Max Cary did not play (was injured in the opening minutes of the Hope game) - I'm not sure what extent of his injury is.

With Cary I'm not sold that Carthage can finish in the CCIW's Top 4 (they'd be in the mix, but certainly no lock)...without him they are just not that good.

Lake Forest is a solid team.  6-5 F/C Travis Clark is a stud.

Carthage goes down to Lake Forest 63-60.  Final.

Also wanted to mention that his brother Devin Demby known as the guy who posterized Mitch Tompson two years ago (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q0BzPMeWkU)

So one of the most memorable Millikin baskets of the last few years was one that did not even count.  I guess that says it all.

I was thinking the same thing. How can you print up a poster of that dunk when the picture would include official Robert Dowling in the background signifying a charge?

Regardless, I like Devin's commercial. (And I'm glad that they finally fixed up that court at Senn HS in order to shoot the commercial there!)

Bob, does it mean I'm just getting old if my most memorable Titan basket is a Crabtree baseline jumper against Rose-Hulman?

Every North Park fan worth his or her salt knows that the most memorable Vikings basket is the half-court buzzer-beater by Mike Gordon that allowed NPC to beat top-ranked Augustana back in '82, 50-49.

IIRC, Anderson began the season with some sort of leg injury. Perhaps he's still coming back from that.

Clark's lost about 10-15 pounds this year, and is moving much quicker in the low post. I saw him a couple of weeks ago against Chicago, and he absolutely feasted on the various Maroons big men. LFC is indeed a solid team.

One other score to report tonight:

Wabash 58
Millikin 43

This contest, which was played in Crawfordsville, was tied with 6:14 to go in the game. Wabash is 7-0, mind you, so even though the Big Blue eventually lost by 15 this was a game in which they were impressive until the end. Brock Van Nordeck, in his second game of the year, led Jimmy Millikin with 16 points.

This is the second quality loss (if that's not an oxymoron) in a row for Millikin, coming on the heels of the 72-66 defeat at the hands of Aurora on Saturday. The Big Blue face Cornell (1-5) on December 19, and I think that that'll be the game in which Millikin will finally end a losing streak that is now, at 26 games, more than a season long.

Last night's Augie win was much more competitive than the final score indicates. After looking like world beaters in their first 2 games Augie has fallen off the ledge with the loss to Wash U. and mediocre efforts against UW Oshkosh, St. Amb, Wisc. Lutheran and Fontebonne. Last night a very poor Fontbonne team pressed Augie and stifled them for much of the game with a 2-3 zone.

The Augie big men are strong and deep, but the backcourt is short of depth and with Chris Anderson in a funk is woeful from 3 point land. As in recent years the Augie FT shooting is a work in progress. I think they were just over 60% last night.

Fontbonne is coached by Augie grad and former Augie assistant Steve Shafer. Watching the game on TV I would say Steve outcoached his mentor last night. Perhaps knowing your mentor's system helps you prepare to beat it. I'm guessing Augie's opponents will learn a lot from watching the tape of last night's game, although the veteran CCIW coaches no doubt already know how Coach G operates.

Hopefully Augie finds it's mojo for Saturday's game against UW Stevens Point. Playing as they did last night will not result in an Augie win against a quality WIAC team.

Huh?...How can you be outcoached when you win by 22  ???

Final from Dubuque...

Elmhurst 72
Loras 66

Loras played without their two returning all-conference players - PG Connor Mooney (ACL) and C Dan Pawelski (not sure why he was out).

Zack Boyd had 24 & 7 for Elmhurst.  The Bluejays have some nice players and should be very competitive with the teams in the 3-8 range.  I won't be surprised if they are right in the middle of that 4th place picture late in the CCIW season.

Max Cary is huge for this team.  If he's out, well, it's going to make Bosko's job very challenging.

Read the first line of my post and check the running score on the Augie website. This game was close throughout the 1st half and early on in the 2nd half. Augie's depth wore down a really talent challenged 1 victory to date Fontbonne team to pullaway at the end of the game. Depth and superior talent not better coaching was the difference in the final margin.

The first line of your quote indicated that the game was much closer than the 22 final margin indicated -- okay, but the final margin was still 22.  I'm sure Coach G would be happy to here you say you think he was out coached every game the rest of the year and Augie wins all those games by double digits!

You've also indicated that Augie's depth wore down Fontbonne -- Well you're correct, that been Augie's strategy for many years and should surprise no one.
