Final from Albion, MI...

Carthage 51
Albion 43

* Luke Johnson: 9 pts, 17 reb
* Malcolm Kelly: 14 pts, 7 reb
* Max Cary: 12 pts

Not often 51 points and 31% from the field will win you a road game...or any game for that matter!

From the MIAA board this morning...

Carthage at Albion  --   Carthage is 2-4 and on a 4 game losing streak.  After losing both games at the MIAA/CCIW Challenge last weekend, Carthage lost midweek to a pretty good Lake Forest team by 3.  This is Albion's first game in 9 days, it could be an ugly game to watch.

Ugly maybe, but 2 big plusses...

1) Max Cary is back.
2) Luke Johnson had 17 rebounds.

I was at the Ratner Center today, and halfway thru the game I got the distinct impression that I'd made the wrong call. I probably should've stayed home to watch the Army-Navy game. I was expecting a great matchup, but ... wow, what a dog of a basketball game. Chicago won the tipoff, and that was the last thing that the Maroons did right all day.

Illinois Wesleyan was very, very good this afternoon, especially Eliud Gonzalez, who was phenomenal at both ends of the floor. The Titans played with strong energy and execution. Chicago, on the other hand, stunk it up on an epic scale. The Maroons put on the worst performance I've seen any men's varsity team offer this season, and I say that as someone who's seen 0-8 Dominican play three times already this year. I can't figure it out, because Chicago's really not that bad a team. The Maroons aren't really good, but they're not really that bad, either. Just one of those days, I guess. Considering how well IWU played, the Titans would've won even if Chicago hadn't pegged the red line on the crap-o-meter, but this was one of those 21-point final margins that really should've been a 30- or 35-point margin to indicate just how lopsided it was.

I'm hoping that either the Wheaton @ Wash U game or the Augie @ UWSP game makes up for it.

It's Albion. That's all anybody needs to know. To Albion, a low-scoring defensive struggle isn't an ugly basketball game, it's the Mona Lisa in sneakers.

I think the first half of Augie/UWSP will be good... but Point doesn't have much depth and they've struggled in the second half of most of their games this year.

Is there a reason Aaron Garriott is not playing? Or at least not showing up in livestats? Thanks.

He is playing-- incorrectly listed as Spencer McCreary in the livestats.

I was listening to the play by play earlier and I thought I heard them mentioning him in the game.  Perhaps I was mistaken.

Thanks, I figured something was amiss when I saw Andrew Jahns in the livestats too.

Live stats must be using the '10-'11 Wheaton roster.

Just texted SID Chris Mitchell...he quickly fixed it.

Wheaton sent last year's roster for some reason.

Down by 10 with 8 minutes to go, they could use a roster from 2 or 3 years ago to get Kent Raymond into the game.

As PS predicted, the Pointers played a great first half, even going into the locker room with the lead, but got worn down by Augie's depth and by foul trouble in the second half.

The Augie lead was in the 9-to-11 range down the stretch, but the Doggies played a poor endgame ... and for a moment it looked like they'd need almost every point in that margin to stave off a desperation UWSP run in the final minute.

I thought that the Bears had maxed out last Saturday against Augie, but they played even better today than they did a week ago.

The Bears did a very solid job of containing McCrary today.
