NCC up big over WC with about 1:20 to go.

Congrats to NCC on regular season and CCIW tournament championships.  They pretty much took Wheaton apart tonight.

Looks like WC still gets a bid, so at least two CCIW teams in, let's hope.  I'm still having a distant hope that IWU will also get a bid, but it is indeed a very distant hope.

IWU women win again tonight, 68-67 over CC, to win regular season and tournament championships for the fifth year in a row.  Quite an achievement.

I'd say that IWU could make it probably that there are no upsets tomorrow (say MIT).

NCF

Great win for the Cards tonight! Double victory in Naperville as the men's track team won their 12th straight indoor conf. championship. It's a great day to be a Cardinal!

In my mind the real key is if Lake Forest falls below IWU in the regional rankings (they lost to unranked Carroll, while we lost to #2 Wheaton, so there is hope).  IF we get to the table early, SOS and results vs. RR teams may pull us thru; if we don;t get to the table until very late, I'm VERY worried.

Congratulations the cards just beat us tonight. They sure came out and earned their spot in the playoffs.  Now can they overcome their achilles heal and play to that level outside the CCIW?

Does Wheaton have a chance at hosting?

Congrats to the Cards! Excited to see what they do in the tourney.

I finally got the video to work for the last 10 mins of the game, and the one bright spot of the massacre was that I was really happy to see how many Thunder fans there were in the stands there. Are Wheaton students getting better at traveling to Rock Island, etc, or is it mostly just the closer schools?

I doubt Wheaton will host now, thought they had a great shot at it if they had gotten an automatic qualifier due to their regional ranking coming in to this week. Heck, has Wheaton hosted since that AWFUL, EVIL game against Calvin in 2005 which I still have PTSD from? Maybe we don't want to host, hah.

Final Pool C projection for the day...

http://www.d3boards.com/index.php?topic=4232.msg1406803#msg1406803

I had IWU starting the day at #18 and finishing #19.  That's not bad considering there were two big upsets - Mary Hardin-Baylor and Birmingham-Southern.  A huge result was William Paterson (which I had as a Pool C) winning the NJAC @ Richard Stockton (which is now a Pool C candidate, but nowhere near as competitive as William Paterson).

If the 3 favorites below win tomorrow, I think IWU has a pretty good chance of getting in as #18 or #19.  The Titans have zero room for error though - IWU can't afford any of these 3 games to go the wrong way.

IWU finished the day better than I would have guessed this morning.

Sunday Bubble Burster Games (Virtual Pool C locks - would clip teams off the current Pool C list)
1. MIT: 24-2 (.923), .514, 2-2 - vs Springfield tomorrow in NEWMAC title
2. Va Wesleyan: 23-4 (.852), .529, 2-3 - vs Randolph tomorrow in ODAC title
3. Transylvania: 22-3 (.880), .508, 3-1 - vs Rose-Hulman tomorrow in HCAC title

Congratulations to North Central on the regular season title, and now the conference title.  A really impressive performance by the Cardinals since CCIW play started.

Wheaton has hosted a couple times since then. I think they have a decent, but not great shot at hosting. No offense to NCC, but the hangar isn't a great hosting gym, and Wheaton has done it successfully multiple times before.

That is not to say that one of them will for sure host, but I feel like there usually is a Chicago area based host for the first two rounds.

More experienced posters, correct me if I'm wrong about that.

And unfortunately, congrats to the Cards, they shot the ball better tonight and their bigs greatly outplayed McCrary and Schultze. It wasn't close.

I'm going to be intrigued to see who actually hosts this year... If you look at Illinois/Wisconsin/Minnesota/Iowa/Missouri there are several teams... but who really has the best resume?

I would assume that Whitewater and Wash U will host... seeing as they're the tops in their respective regions.  There are likely two more WIAC schools, a MIAC school, Edgewood, Carroll, Buena Vista, at least two if not three CCIW schools.  Hope is tops in their region, so it's likely that some or at least one regional team could be sent there... does someone else get to host?  (I'm assuming that Whitworth will host their pod... due to travel concerns.

Obviously, this is more difficult not knowing the full field, but everything is getting a little less fuzzy.

If Transylvania wins the HCAC they could host.  Being way over in Lexinton, KY you could still have WashU and WW host.  Transy could draw Centre, Ohio schools and even a Va school.  I'm not convinced Witt or Wooster will host, but there needs to be one in that part of the country.

It would seem kind of harsh to send a team with their record on the road.

Greek Tragedy

Tell that to Whitewater two years ago.  They won the conference and lost the conference tourney final, went into the NCAAs at 22-5 or so and got shipped to Wooster.  :'(  It'll be interesting this year!

I was sitting at dinner tonight making a list of potential Hope opponents.  We all felt the list looked more difficult than it should.  But that's just this part of the country isn't it.

Stevens Point was on this list. :)

Moving teams around more in recent years has been one of the nice improvements the tournament has made.
