geez Greg, I am disappointed not to make your list. I remember posting when the site was on the centennial conference website. I know I was just a football poster for most of my early years, but I remember reading this board from the start.

Dude, how can I put you on the list when you followed April's lead and committed poster hara-kiri? You're now just a plebeian at #34767.

It's not my fault that you opted out of the in crowd. ;)

The old site didn't have a message board, which is why we didn't have a board for a year after we started.

Sorry Greg, about that chicken story.  I think I've really only told it 3-4 times on this board, mostly goaded on by Ypsi, of course. :)  We do like to wax nostalgic about our Greenie Weenie era at IWU, the late 60s.   Surprised I was so low at #312, as I only came on the Board in 2002 when still living in NYC, before going back to Hong Kong again in 2003, when my son went off to Swarthmore College.  In those days I did drive down to Salem, also to a Sectional game I think at Hampden-Sydney or Randolph-Macon from NYC?  (yes, someone can correct my speeling if they wish!).

Appreciate all the history and recollections . . . great stuff.  Do miss WheatonC for sure.  A great guy.  Nice to have April back.  Yes, April, I posted quite a bit before during your earlier student era, think I met you and enjoyed your baking skills at one of the Wheaton games.  I got back alot to IWU, even when living in Hong Kong, as my folks are living here in Bloomington and I was heavily involved with IWU governance and alumni affairs, esp. from 2001 - 2005, during the Presidency of our late beloved President, Minor Myers, jr.  Even rode the away game fan bus at certain points (though never to a basketball game at the CrackerBox, as Greg surely remembers, correctly castigating me recently for my omission).   I know and see many of the IWU-related posters, here on campus and beyond.  A great and loyal group to be sure.  We are all excited about the Sweet Sixteen presence now of our TWO Titan squads.

As Minor always used to say, "Go Forward and do well, but more importantly, do good!"

Yeah, as Pat remarked about Bob only being #310, some of the number placements do seem a bit odd. I certainly don't remember Dennis being here as early as #100, for example.

In hunting for other original posters with single- or double-digit numbers, it's no surprise that sac is #9 and Ralph Turner is #17.

That is a surprise to me, especially if the board existed in 1998 as Pat stated.  Hope went to Salem that year and I don't remember talking or 'chatting up' our trip to Salem on a message board.

My earliest recollection are the scrolling posts from Pat or someone at the Hampden-Sydney/UW-Platteville final in 1999, and even then I don't remember posting on a board.

I kind of thought 2000 was the first year for me, either way its been one long, strange, weird experience.

Mr. Ypsi

Now, now, Mark - I confess that I don't even recall the chicken (despite my attendance that night in Normal)! ;D  The retellings are ALL on you! 8-)

But Greg, the 4.000 retellings is a bit excessive when he has barely over 1,000 posts! :P

iwu70

Ypsi, you were on this board pretty early too, heh?  Fun history, details from Greg and Pat.  You are right, only about 1,000+ posts, only recently promoted to "All Region."

Sounds like a great time @DeVos.  Glad you got to go and enjoy the Hope hospitality, festivities and a grand Titan win, in double OT.  I was watching, though the video stream was pretty erratic for me.

Let's hope more Titans basketball at DeVos yet this year.  I really think the Titan women have another great chance to make the Final Four this year.

Hope all goes well in Michigan. Bet you are glad the Super Pacs are now leaving you'all alone.  Seems Ohio is hanging in the balance even at this late time tonight.

That's very possible. Sac, I may have given you a lower number as a HOFer. Others may have gotten lower numbers when we merged the football and basketball boards seven years ago. I guess, on retrospect, it may not be as good a measure as I thought.

I don't think the poster numbers are an accurate depiction of order. Some things totally got messed up when we transferred boards or something. Going back to my archives of posts from October 2004 (that's the earliest that I have transferred over to my new computer, actually I don't even remember why I have those, did the boards still scroll off back then??), the registered date was on the posts. Some people are pretty accurate (David Collinge = 10-1999, sac 2-2009, Knightstalker 3-2001, diehardfan 2-2002,  cabooney 8-2003) But then there's weird ones (Dennis = 8-2002, Greg 12-2001, Titan Q = 2-2003, iwu70 = 2-2003, Mark Kurth 7=2003, Joe Hakes 7-2003).

You are seriously killing me with these posts!!!Stop(just kidding as I know you won't anyway :D) Or better yet, tell me how to do that so i can counter attack...i mean respond...hahahahahahaha. I really need to go home now. I've been at work since 6:30 this morning.
You just reply quoting a post, cut and paste until you've got everything you want to respond to.

I've actually never heard this story before, April. I'm not freaked out by it at all. In fact, I think it's interesting. I agree with you that your anthro professor was wrong. We would've made much better term-paper fodder than a bunch of coffee-shop denizens. ;)
Oh, I don't disagree. I think we'd still make a good paper. I am not sure I am objective enough to be the one to write it now though. :)

Quote from: Gregory Sager on March 06, 2012, 09:57:58 PMYou obviously didn't work hard enough at it, since Dennis still likes you. ;)

Oh, I remember you. You are one of the more distinguished IWU alums that I've met. I also remember being bitter that I did not win the "furthest away poster" during my time in Africa because of you. ;) We probably met at an IWU game, I don't believe we met in King Arena. I was actually just thinking about all the random IWU playoff games I went to earlier because I was remembering that I had actually made cookies for the entire IWU team once.... which was, of course, because of John Camerdella. Hahahaha.... Coming back to these boards is like taking a look at my high school yearbook.  :-[

Okay okay, I admit it. I stalked USee, that's why he quit. Sorry everyone.  :-[ :D

USee is a freaking institution over on the Football boards, actually the thought of him not being there is pretty depressing. BTW Usee, you win the prize of the slowest person to warm up to me ever. It was a brutal couple of years there for a while. :P

I don't know why I do not have this special ability to check everyone's poster number. I wonder if it relates to being on Firefox or the fact that I am an epic noob now that can't even give karma.  :'( So, uh, Pat, when are you  going to link up my profiles? :D

143 for me... I'm just happy because I beat Old School (aka Greek Tragedy #149) by 6!

I wouldn't have joined until at least fall of 2001 at the earliest.

It's really too bad that all three CCIW schools bowed out of the tournament so early and there isn't anything to talk about during the round of 16...  (hehe).

To bring it back to basketball... I'm really torn about the Whitewater/Wheaton game Friday.  I'm pulling for the WIAC school (and I actually really, really like how Whitewater plays this year... for maybe the first time ever?) but Wheaton has always kind of been my default after UWSP.

Bahahaha, I literally just snorted, which I have not done many times in my life and am slightly ashamed to admit. Hahaha. This digression is probably my fault. Nah, it's Greg's. :D

Dude, you gotta cheer for us. Didn't you like live in Wheaton and work at Wheaton basketball camps or something? You have to pay me back for all those years I cheered for you guys when you were still playing.  ;D

Eh, only for the first 19 years of my life.  It's not like I grew up there (oh... wait...).  But it was, like, totally across town...

I did go to Crusader camp... and then I did work whatever it morphed into when the Crusaders became the Thunder.

I don't think it was "Thunder camp."  That sounds like meteorology.

Ah... Thunder Basketball Camp.  Descriptive.  Perhaps not as brief as "Crusader camp" but...

For those wondering, the site was launched (relaunched, really) in November 1997. The board launched a year later.
Any original posters still around?

If you hover over a poster's name on the left side, you'll see a number at the end (u=xxxxxx). The lower the number, the more original the poster. My admin handle is 1, my regular posting handle is 6, Warren Thompson is 7, Greg Sager is 27, hopefan is 62.

Greg's story is pretty close. There was a CAC basketball site, which I developed and then sold off to the conference. Meanwhile, there was a Division III Basketball Online site which was being run by the Centennial Conference, and I acquired that in November 1997.

The original message board software was Discus, which was created by Hope College. But the blue and orange color scheme and graphics (2000?) was actually the brainchild of Martin Wondergem, a Calvin grad, in a rare moment of Hope-Calvin solidarity.

Greg -- Bob is poster 310. He might have had a previous handle?

It does not work for me :(
