It would be interesting to do a little research on how schools came up with their mascots. Some of them are very "interesting" to say the least. :D

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

This is NYU:
Although the nickname for the university's sports teams has always been "The Violets", the need was felt for a mascot to appear at athletic competitions. In the 1980s, the Department of Athletics began using a Bobcat as the mascot. The choice was derived from the abbreviation then being used by the Bobst Library computerized catalog — short: Bobcat.[2]  Taken from Wikipedia. That is a strange combination.  :D

Article on Stephen Rudnicki and the Titans as they prepare to face Wooster tonight...

Jordan Zimmer (foot) and John Koschnitzky (back) have not practiced this week, but will play tonight.

Whenever Zimmer (15.8 ppg) and the Titans are eliminated, the senior will go back to his hometown of Delavan, Ill., about 45 minutes west of Illinois Wesleyan's campus, where he will continue the tradition of his grandfather and father started on the family farm. He will start as a hired hand, growing corn and soybeans, before inheriting responsibilities from his dad.

When he returns home, he will do so as a newlywed. As a sophomore, he met Carolyn Leonard through the campus ministry they led together. They had been dating for nearly two years before he popped the question in December.

The farm can wait, kid.  How bout a few 3's tonight!?

That's an interesting story. Thankfully it's not quite time to plant yet.  ;D

Don't know the reason why the IWU men's bsketball team is staying in a motel on the outskirts of Seville, Ohio, 20 miles from Wooster. I think a women's hockey event in Wooster might be the reason. Wonder if Wooster memtioned that to the D3 committee before Wooster was chosen to host the sectional for the second consecutive year.  8-) Coincidentally, Wooster's road record (not including neutral court games) in D3 tourney games is an appalling 1-10! Their record when playing tournament games at home is 19-5, including the 58-53 win over IWU in 2004.

Nice articles on Zimmer and Rudnicki.  Well-deserved recognition, esp. for Rudnicki.  He's been solid, consistent, especially in big game situations.

Good luck to North Central and the Titans tonight.  Wheaton, too.  Would love 3 of 8 in the Elite 8 level, for our "down" conference this year.  Gotta love it.

(Carthage and IWU women too, why not?)

P.S.  Indeed, many of the mascots are surely a bit weird, even creepy at times.  The Popeye-looking Tommy Titan seems almost normal by comparison.  Hope for a good Tommy Titan-following, Greenie crowd at Timken tonight.
