Congratulations to the CCIW teams for their success in the tourney and good luck tonight to the Titans. The conference run has been impressive and IWU's run of win's on home floors in hostile environments can continue tonight.

A special shout out to Wheaton's seniors Tim McCrary, Spencer Schultze, Jeremy Pflederer and Aaron Garriott. McCrary will be remembered as a star and all american in D3 and was a special player that helped the Thunder achieve success they otherwise would not have experienced. Schultze grew up big time this year when many on here (including me) had their doubts. He not only single handedly won several games while playing at an all conference level, but also there is no doubt the Thunder would not have been in the tournament without him. J-Pfled hit as many clutch shots as I remember seeing in a Wheaton uniform. He had a knack for pulling the trigger at a key time and making a play when the Thunder needed it. Aaron Garriott overcame what most of us would have never have endured just to be on the floor. His commitment and love of the game not only got him on the floor but allowed him to play at an all-conference level. There were games he simply carried the Thunder to victory.

Thanks guys for the memories. Go CCIW.
Nice tribute to your seniors! Congrats to them on a fantastic season.

I should add the on the Wheaton site, the tribute is to Seniors McCrary and Pflederer with no mention of Schultze and Garriott. Perhaps this is the first clue of their return?

Wheaton head coach Mike Schauer noted, "One of the tough things whenever you get beat is to acknowledge how well your opponent played, and I thought Whitewater was fantastic tonight. They are the best defense team we have seen." Schauer's team won 23 games, the third-highest total since Wheaton joined Division III. He added of his team's strong season, "I am really pleased with our guys. In the end I want our team and our constituency to go, wow this was a pretty good team."

This is extremely gracious of Coach Schauer......One look at the free throw discrepancey tells you what I think of last nites game....and resulted in the TO difference....Congrats to Wheaton Senior's
"I'm your Huckleberry........we started a game we never got to finish!"

You see more and more guys coming back to finish their careers, esp. in football over the past few seasons.

The highlight of last night's gamer was when Wheaton came out of a timeout in the second half and Schultze went into shot-blocking mode.  He swatted a few on consecutive defensive trips.  Sad to see McCrary finish his career, but he's been a great player to watch.  I've always enjoyed having him instead of facing him.  We will miss him and Schultze, and JP and AG if they don't come back.
The FT difference was noticeable, though I'll chalk up a few of WW's attempts to Wheaton's fouls on breakaways after TO's.  Ultimately the 1st half turnovers killed them.  Glad they made a run in the second period to make it a game.

IWU fans can get a good look at Wittenberg here.  #45 Clayton Black has some serious hair.

It's 1984 Van Halenesque.

http://www.weissguygallery.com/images/galleries/ROCK_OF_AGES/VAN-HALEN-1984.jpg

With that hair, he could be the 5th member of Van Halen (Sammy Hagar doesn't count as the 5th member).

Although he was probably born in 1990 or so... making him negative 6 years old when VH was really rockin' in 1984.

Yikes!

The UWW announcers are brutal. They have mispronounced multiple Wheaton player names. Different versions of Pflederer and Serenius even with the PA announcer saying it right.

that's what happens when the average ACT score of a UWW student is a negative number  ;D

... Which C in CCIW stands for classy?  Oh, neither of them?

As was mentioned on the WIAC board earlier today, Whitewater is winning this season with a different formula... they're playing great defense this year instead of just trying to outscore opponents.  They're also being very methodical on offense and as a result, they're getting better shots.  Whitewater shot 60% in the first half on the way to that 16 point halftime lead.

Wheaton didn't roll over... we all knew they'd fight back, which they did.  But Whitewater caused 20 Wheaton turnovers for the game and kept throwing able bodies at McCrary.  Whitewater got to the line, sank their free throws, and played enough defense to shut down the Thunder.
If you had read some of DP's posts over the last few days--you would have known he was(is) in his class clown mode. Lighten up-he is kinda funny.:)

I've read plenty of DP's posts over the years.  Some are funny.  That one wasn't.

Hey, don't paint us all with the same broad brush. Dennis doesn't speak for me.

I know.  It wasn't intended for the whole group by any stretch, though it did come off that way.  Sorry.

a bit defensive are we ?  if the shoe fits, where it.

congratulations to all the cciw teams for learning how to dance.

If being a champion against prejudices (as I am) is being defensive, then yes, I guess I was being defensive?

I didn't go to Whitewater.  I'm not a Whitewater fan.  I am a supporter of the WIAC, but I'm also a supporter of the CCIW.  It's more the CCIW supporter in me that looks at the comment that you made and really wonders about the heart behind it.

And, oh wise one, for somebody extolling the intelligence (or lack thereof) of an entire group of people, you might want to be more exact with your grammar.

For what it's worth, I think that the two students who did the video broadcast of the Wheaton/Whitewater game did a pretty good job, overall.  I think they would be the first to admit that they weren't perfect and are still learning... but they also were doing their second game in a row, having done the Va Wesleyan/Whitworth game immediately preceding the Wheaton/Whitewater game.

I mean, if you really have a problem with it, ask for your money back.

i would suggest that, if/when illinois wesleyan wins tonight, they grab #45, make him sit in a chair at midcourt, and shave him bald.  that hair has to go ....   :P  (plus, he's a philosophy major, for cryin' out loud!)

They are decent announcers but seeing as the majority of the listeners are people supporting the two schools it occurs to me perhaps the biggest measuring stick of competence is knowing who is in the game and how to say their name. It takes about a minute to figure that out and is part of any good broadcaster's prep work. This lack of prep makes the school look bad. I know the football guys don't make that mistake.

I guess you get what you pay for.

I should add the on the Wheaton site, the tribute is to Seniors McCrary and Pflederer with no mention of Schultze and Garriott. Perhaps this is the first clue of their return?

Schultze has no eligibility left. He played in twelve varsity games as a freshman in 2008-09 (and who knows how many JV games), and he played in every one of Wheaton's varsity games as a sophomore, junior, and senior.

Pflederer has a year of eligibility left, because he decided to forego basketball as a sophomore in order to concentrate on academics. Garriott has two years of eligibility left; he's played one year for SIU-Edwardsville and one year for Wheaton.

I completely agree with USee on this. Even if you've never done a broadcast before, or worked the P.A. mic before, common sense dictates that you should learn how to pronounce people's names before you speak into a live mic. Not only are you making the institution you represent look bad if you botch names, you make yourself look bad as well. It's not as though there's some sort of heavy burden involved in getting the pronunciations right. You simply check with an assistant coach or a trainer from the other team during warmups. You say, "Excuse me, but could I go over the pronunciations for your team with you?" I've never encountered anyone who has refused to do that for me. It's basic common courtesy, and the opposing staff appreciates it when you take the (minimal) time and trouble to do your job properly and make sure that you do right by the other team.
