Article describing the Titans run in the Dance as "more Snooki than Fred Astaire," so I guess whether it's New Jersey gangsta style or more like daper Broadway, the key thing is that we're still dancing.  (for the complete article, see the link on Q's iwuhoops.com site.  Still the definitive site for IWU men's hoops.  Thanks Q!).   The article is really about the senior runs of Kman and Gonzalez, from their hometown areas and their exploits in high school hoops, before coming to IWU.

Go TITANS, go seniors, "Snooki or Fred Astaire" just keep dancing.

Thanks, Pat.  Pat, Thanks.

You will probably have some fun with the MIT fans, hackers these next few days.  Computer mischief is endemic in those parts . . .

Mr. Ypsi

As I see it, IWU has a 50+% chance of making each final (both Cabrini and St. Thomas are definitely beatable, though obviously no pushovers), but the winner of the other semi is definitely the favorite.  Either MIT or UWW, or for the women Amherst or George Fox, is gonna be a tough row to hoe.

But then, Hope AT Hope, Wooster AT Wooster, and Mount Union AT Mount Union were not exactly gimmes either!  I'm ecstatically proud of IWU regardless, but go get us a walnut-and-bronze or two!

Article on IWU sophomore forward Victor Davis...

Through 4 tournament games, Victor is averaging 13.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.  He has been a big factor for IWU on both sides of the floor during this run.

And an article from his hometown Galesburg Register-Mail...

While I definitely agree with you, sports are a funny thing, especially when you get this far into the tournament.  Look recently at Cardinals (MLB), Giants (NFL), Mavericks (NBA), and UCONN (NCAA DI last year).  All could be considered underdog picks and all eventually walked away with their respective championships.

I hope we can add both IWU teams to this list.

I've driven past both IWU and MIT does that count?  :)
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

The front-page ballot stuffing was probably only to be expected from MIT students.  They have a long history of "hacking," which in MIT parlance has nothing (directly) to do with computer break-ins.  Most people would call their antics "pranks."  But they seem to have some powerful allies.  Check out the photos here:

If anyone sees a man in Salem with a British accent and a blue flashlight, say hello to the Doctor!
You'll never walk alone.

This will be my 10th trip to Salem.  A few miscellaneous notes for anyone heading there for the first time...

* Roanoke (population 97,000) and Salem (25,000) form a "twin cities" kind of deal.

* Ironically, the Division III school in the area - Roanoke College (from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference) - is in Salem.  Go figure.  Page Moir is the head coach at Roanoke and is a real good dude.

* Downtown Roanoke has an urban feel - think of a mini-downtown Peoria maybe.  Lots of great restaurants and bars.  Downtown Salem is your prototypical smaller D3 town - having just been there, I'd compare it to downtown Wooster, OH.  Or maybe a Greencastle, IN.

* The 4 Final Four teams stay at the Hotel Roanoke, in downtown Roanoke - http://www.hotelroanoke.com/

* The Final Four is played at the Salem Civic Center, in Salem - http://www.salemciviccenter.com/  (maybe 15 minutes from downtown Roanoke)

* As far as places to visit while there, just a few recommendations from my many trips...

   - Mac & Bob's in downtown Salem is a favorite of mine.  A great casual place to grab some food, a beer, and maybe watch some D1 games...and great on St. Patty's Day - http://www.macandbobs.com/

   - Awful Arthur's Seafood Co. in downtown Roanoke (a bar/grill) is a great place to watch D1 games and grab something to eat - http://www.awfularthurs.com/

   - Corned Beef & Co. is also a popular downtown Roanoke stop, and St. Patty's Day favorite - http://www.cornedbeefandco.com/

   - Texas Tavern is downtown Roanoke is a great stop at 1:00am...get the Cheesy Western.  http://www.texastavern-inc.com/

   - For golf, Hanging Rock is a beautiful course with a ton of elevation - http://www.hangingrockgolf.com/

IWU fans will want to make sure to attend the official university celebration.  These are always a great time.  From the IWU site:

We expect the Titans to win on Friday and play for the Championship on Saturday at 7 PM  (EST). If the team does not win on Friday, there will be a celebration at the Hotel Roanoke following the game and buses will depart Saturday morning. If the team wins on Friday, there will be a celebration following the Championship game on Saturday and the buses will depart Sunday morning.

The Salem trip is always a special one - it's a great place and the Final Four organizers treat the student-athletes like they play for North Carolina or Kansas.  Safe travels, all!

I am glad they get treated well, that's very cool.

What are some examples of this?

I just find it interesting, as I have never been there.
