I don't know how many of you are readers of the MIAA room, but this announcement was posted in there the other day.

Thoughts, anyone?

Well, the only CCIW coach involved is NCC's Todd Kelly, and nobody should be surprised either at his being a candidate or a finalist. First of all, I'd think the vast majority of assistant coaches aspire to land head coaching positions. As far as Kelly specifically, he has done an admirable job of bringing in a couple of very good recruiting classes the last couple of years. Additionally, he was a finalist last year for the head job at North Park that eventually went to Coach Howard.

That is not correct, Mark. Todd Kelly did apply for the North Park job, but he was not a finalist. The job prospectus for the position made it plain that collegiate head coaching experience was a requirement for the position, and there were numerous serious candidates that met that condition (including the various actual finalists). Also, the job prospectus stated that five years of collegiate coaching experience was a requirement. Kelly only had four. He had no shot at all of getting the NPU job.

As much of an impediment to NCC's recruiting as it would be to lose Kelly at this crucial juncture, it'd also be a real feather in Todd Raridon's cap to have his second chair leave Naperville to take the helm of another school's program for the second time in four years, if Kelly follows in the footsteps of Chad Murray (Cornell) by landing the Olivet job. I like Todd, and I sincerely wish him good luck. I hope that he gets the gig.

GS and Kiko - give it a rest

You can unbunch your undies now, Dennis ... my argument with Kiko already ran its course.

But you know very well this room's informal rules, specifically the "No Whining" rule: If you complain about a current topic of discussion, you then have to provide a new topic as an alternative. I see that you haven't done that. So let me help you out a bit. Which one of your tried-and-true staples will it be this time: Bashing the NPU head coach? Excoriating soccer as a Communist plot? Talking about old Yankees you remember from your childhood in the Bronx? Favorite meals at Charcoal Delights? Griping about how long it takes to get from Mount Prospect to Chicago? Dueling chins jokes with Joe Hakes? Or will you shock us all and provide us with new material? ;) ;D

The ball's in your court, DP.

I'm sorry. I thought I remembered Todd Kelly having an interview at NPU last year, and assumed they wouldn't be interviewing anyone but those that were finalists for the job.
If Kelly does get the Olivet job, I hope he has better luck than Chad Murray had at Cornell (3-22) this season.

Olivet was 4-21 this past season.  They only graduate 2 contributors but the next coach will have his work cut out for him to make Olivet more competitive than 4 wins next season.

Wrong again, maestro. He had the last word.

Actually, oh reading challenged one - I have been providing recruiting tidbits I see in the Daily Herald.

Actually, oh geographically challenged one - I have not lived in Mount Prospect for 9 years - its Rolling Meadows now.

Actually, of verbage over-drive one, we all know that you gave Kiko the last word because I called you on it.

Actually, nostalgically (Heel, I cant speel) challenged one, I am currently looking forward to going to the opening day showing of the new Three Stooges movie, having seen in person the original Moe Howard & Larry Fine, with Curly Joe at the world famous Loews Paradise Theatre in the Bronx as a young child.

Also looking forward to watching North Park's baseball team in the coming weeks.

That enough  :)
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

The last 3 Peoria Journal Star Small School "Players of the Year" that played in the CCIW have turned out to be great players...

2008 - Jordan Zimmer, Delavan (Illinois Wesleyan) - 1st Team All-CCIW 2011-12
2005 - Ryan Burks, Midwest Central (Elmhurst) - 2nd Team All-CCIW 2007-08
1996 - Ryan Knuppel, Midwest Central (Elmhurst) - 1st Team All-CCIW 2000-01 (Most Outstanding Player)

Sounds like the new MU coach is working hard, tweeting often.  Let's hope he is getting some more troops in, for a decent CCIW level, improving his pre-CCIW season record in future, at the least.  God knows, he's coming from a very deep hole, a very low base, to bring the Big Blue back to some respectability.  I wish him well, tweets or no tweets.  It's gonna take some considerable improvements of personnel.

Keep the recruiting news coming.

Yes, IWU celebration was a grand time, good feelings all 'round, and much appreciation expressed to the players, coaches and all the IWU sports administration staff.  A double banner year for the Titans!

Went to softball yesterday and saw our young pitcher toss a 1-hit, 17 strike-out, 6-0 shut-out masterpiece.  All time record in strike-outs in a single game.  Not bad for early in the season. Good stuff.  Guys had a double-header double win up in Beloit, pounding out 17 hits in one of the games.  Both teams are going to be good this season, IMHO.

I'll leave twisted debates and twisted testicles to others. . .

Sounds like you're paying. In that case, I won't be greedy -- I'll take Saint-Tropez, but if that's a little too over the top I'll settle for Cozumel.

Thanks, NCF!

Actually, this is a good topic. I am thrilled that the Farrelly brothers (of There's Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, and Shallow Hal fame) are directing the movie -- who better to do a movie about the Three Stooges than the most lowbrow comedic directors in Hollywood? But I'm not thrilled about the fact that the cast of Jersey Shore is going to be in the movie, too. One can only hope that each of them gets a pie in the face. Also, is the world really ready for a flamboyantly gay Larry Fine? We'll soon find out.

Currently 14-3, with some pretty solid pitching talent.

One thing that Todd Kelly would have in common with Chad Murray, besides being a Todd Raridon acolyte, is the fact that he'd be taking a job where he has some serious inherent obstacles to overcome. As related on the IIAC board, Cornell slashed its budget after hiring Murray, and Olivet is a perennially-marginal program that will most likely find itself bumping up against the MIAA ceiling of the dual Dutch-American powerhouses in Holland and Grand Rapids (to say nothing of the solid Albion and Adrian programs) from now until Judgment Day.
