Thought this was an interesting list of the best schools for student athletes in all divisions. Wheaton came in at #66.

Thanks April.

Here is the D3-only Top 100: http://www.ncsasports.org/who-is-ncsa/power-rankings-division-3

21. Wheaton
41. Illinois Wesleyan
89. Augustana

The Collegiate Power Rankings from NCSA are calculated for each college/university at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels by averaging the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup ranking, the NCAA student-athlete graduation rate of each college/university and the U.S. News & World Report ranking. The collegiate power rankings based off of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup rating evaluates the strength of NCAA athletic departments, while the U.S. News & World Report rating recognizes institutions of academic excellence. The student-athlete graduation rates are based on those provided by the NCAA.

Just read the Wheaton BBall preview up on the site (forgive me if this has been covered, I have been embroiled in the football boards for the last couple months) and thought this quote from Mike Schauer interesting:

Schauer says of what to expect from his squad this season, "This team will probably score more easily than it will stop people. Younger guys just don't defend as well as older guys." He adds, "The biggest concern is that we are inexperienced in the post. Nate Haynes is really the only returning forward who has played any minutes in college. Our ability to defend the post, rebound the ball and score in the post are all things that will be a work in progress."

to read the whole preview you can go here:

http://athletics.wheaton.edu/news/2012/10/26/MBB_1026121604.aspx?path=mbball

To an outside analyst, it appears Coach Schauer is really saying that he hopes the Wheatie perimeter players score more points than the interior players give up. No doubt there is more involved in formulating an effective total game plan against Wheaton, but option 1 on offense appears to be making every effort to pound the ball inside thus  forcing those inexperienced Wheaton bigs to defend the post.

Congrats to NCC's Todd Kelly who has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the Cardinals.

Yes, Q has posted the Pgraph piece on Sodemann.  Seems the worrisome takeaway here is Sodemann out 3-12 weeks depending on the severity of the groin tear.  Not good.  Positive takeaway is that Zimmer, Heyen working their way back into the picture.  Molinari still not in pre-season practice routines as yet.  Second concussion.  This may give others a chance to shine -- Dortch at the 2, perhaps Oswald and Mayberger, perhaps others.  Sure hope Sodemann is a quick, good healer, and is back in 3-4 weeks, not 5-12 weeks.  He was looking pretty good, shooting it well in the scrimmage I saw.  Perhaps more minutes for Nelms and Dolan too, with Overstreet shifting over to the 2 at some points, in some situations.  Season coming up now pretty soon.

Last regular season football this weekend, IWU @ Elmhurst, with only a spoiler role for the Titans after their very tough last three weeks of losses.  Another Pgraph piece on the Titan football game, situation in the Pgraph today as well.

An appropriate number. ;)
Adding a third "6" or changing the ones digit?  ;)
always count on Mr. Sager for the jab. :)

Well, this article from the Kenosha News should get things buzzing:

KENOSHA — There is a feel-good vibe coming from Tarble Arena.

Despite not receiving one paltry vote in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, the Carthage men's basketball team has top-25 potential and is eyeing a big turnaround from a disappointing 12-13 season (6-8 CCIW).

"It's an interesting group with very good potential," 17th-year Carthage coach Bosko Djurickovic said. "We're excited about it."

The Red Men host Milwaukee School of Engineering in a scrimmage at 7 tonight and take on Buena Vista (Iowa) in the season opener on Nov. 16 in the opening round of the Johnson Tip-Off Tournament at Carroll University in Waukesha.

As usual, a brutal non-conference schedule will prepare Carthage for its rugged 14-game CCIW season. The Red Men were picked to finish third in the preseason coaches poll and could contend for the top spot.

"I'd be disappointed if we did not," Djurickovic said.

One piece missing.

The Red Men return a majority of last year's squad, but one noticeable absence is leading scorer Malcom Kelly (19.4 points per game). Calling it "paperwork eligibility issues" and "not a grade issue," Djurickovic said that the 26-year-old senior guard could rejoin the team for the second semester.

Kelly, a Reuther graduate, ranks 25th on Carthage's career scoring list with 1,045 points.

"The thing that Malcom provided for us was he was an excellent, excellent shooter and he was an excellent shooter in big games," Djurickovic said about the first-team All-CCIW performer.

While the Red Men may not boast a go-to player as they have in previous seasons, the talented sophomore trio of Luke Johnson, Donte Logan and Reese Herth is expected to help pick up the slack.

"You're going to find a number of guys whose numbers are going to go up," Djurickovic said. "Through three weeks of practice, our two best players in the gym clearly have been Luke Johnson and Donte Logan. They have really made that big jump."

What in the world is a "paperwork eligibility issue"?

If Malcom Kelly doesn't return, Carthage is probably more like a 6th place team than a 2nd/3rd place team.

That is some serious Bosko spin. "Oh yeah, we can win the conference championship without our best player. We have some other guys who are actually better than him anyway....". Yeah right.

Stick a fork in the Redmen, they are done.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but is the age listed correct?

TQ's question is the same one I was wondering about.

"A paperwork eligibility issue." Hmmmm..........maybe a professor recorded an incorrect grade or something like that?

Its also interesting to note that Bosko said he could rejoin the team for the second semester Thats a little different than saying he will rejoin the team. Also, if its just a matter of paperwork, why the heck is it going to take all the way until 2nd semester to correct. A minor paperwork issue could seemingly be corrected in a few days.

Perhaps a little more Boskospeak......."He was an excellent, excellent shooter for us." Is "was" the operative word?

Kelly wore #25 last season. #25 on the current roster is listed as being one Trevor James.

His birthdate is 5/17/86, so the answer to your question is a resounding yes.
Malcom served 3 years in the navy before enrolling at Carthage.
