IWU's opening night opponent Coe is the favorite in the IIAC...

Millikin plays Coe Saturday at the Shirk Center.  Both CCIW teams also play Loras -- picked 5th in the IIAC.

Q, thanks for your pre-season review.  I'll be very interested to watch a little JV ball when it starts too.  Looking forward to this weekend @The Shirk, seeing how all the pieces are coming together, esp. on the perimeter.  Let's hope the four Titans dealing with injuries, lack of pre-season workouts are able to get healthy and come into full in-season shape very very soon  -- esp. Zimmer and Sodemann.

Q, thanks for your annual IWU season preview!  I just spent an hour looking through it.  I'll look more later.  Outstanding job as always!

Good luck to all CCIW schools in their pre conference games!

Final from Northfield, MN:

Carleton 68
Elmhurst 56

D'Ante Foster was the only 'jay in double figures with 12 points, although Nick Sanford finished the night with 9 and 12.

I watched most of the Jays game vs. Carleton. Very disappointed in the Elmhurst effort tonight. I was secretly thinking that Elmhurst could contend for a top 4 spot in the CCIW this season, but after tonight I'm not sure. Defense wasn't a problem, but they really struggled to score. I was very encouraged by what I saw out of Taylor Baxter and Eric Leonard at the PG spot however. Hopefully, the Jays can figure it out before January begins.

Wheaton 80
Capital 45

Michael Kvam: 23 pts (7-11 trey)
Tyler Peters: 17 pts
Brayden Teuscher: 11 pts
Nathan Haynes: 13 rebs

I had to keep looking over my shoulder at the calendar, because Wheaton looked like it was in mid-February form.

Wheaton 80
Capital 45

This was just a complete domination by the Thunder. Capital had serious trouble scoring all night.

Michael Kvam had 23 points and made 7 three point shots.

The Thunder really dominated a Capital team that had 4 returning starters from an NCAA tournament team.

Coe was 19-8 overall last year and won the IIAC with a 12-4 league record.  The Kohawks return four starters...

G - Andrew Wirth, 6-0 Jr (11.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.1 apg, 65-162 3-point, .401)
G - Garrett Cross, 6-0 Sr (7.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 26-46 3-point, .565)
G - David Mataloni, 6-2 Sr (15.9 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.6 apg, 43-131 3-point, .328) - IIAC Player of the Year
F - Seth Light, 6-7 Sr (11.0 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 96-184 FG, .522)

Interesting Xs and Os matchup between two very different teams.

Do the Kohawks and Weenies backcourts basically play evenly and effectively cancel each other while Green overpowers inside for the W?

Know what happened to James Robertson and Brandon Grubl?
