Q the behind the scenes is absolutely hilarious a must watch.  Good to see those players having a great time with all that they go through a season with School and basketball.  Did you film and ask the questions.?  Anyway awesome job!

NPU 79
Cairn 55

Aaron Weaver: 27 pts, 13 rebs
Mark Holmes: 25 pts, 13 rebs
Zach Cassita: 6 rebs, 8 asts

Doesn't really mean much, as Cairn's been pretty terrible in recent seasons and I doubt that anything about this team other than its' school's name has changed. It'll be a very, very different story tomorrow night when the Vikes have to (presumably) face a much bigger and more skilled Calvin team. Still, a win's a win, and it's always nice to start off the season with a W ... especially with a new head coach sitting in the first chair.
The extended box score shows that Mike Gabriel played one minute.  That's encouraging.

Final from the Shirk Center...

Loras 78
Millikin 76

Very tight game down the stretch.  Millikin was led by T.J. Griffin with 15 pts, 5 assists.

I'm guessing that that's a mistake. I know that he was going to see the doctor today. Perhaps it was a morning appointment, he got cleared to play by the doc, and he was able to make the team bus, or he got up to Grand Rapids on his own in time to dress for the game and get thirty-four seconds of floor time in the second half (according to the PBP). It'd be absolutely fantastic if that's what actually happened, but I'm not betting on it.

What's your over/under on combined score for Faith/IIT tomorrow, Bob?

From the Carroll Tip-Off Tourney:

Carthage 63
Buena Vista 56

Luke Johnson: 16 pts, 9 rebs, 6 blks
Donte Logan: 13 pts
Mitch Thompson: 7 rebs
Steve Jaskulske: 7 rebs

Looks like an ugly one from an offensive standpoint. Carthage shot 38% from the field and 21% from downtown, but the Beavers were even worse at 30% and 17%.

Final...

IWU 52
Coe 51

Mike Mayberger gets fouled on a 3 with 7 seconds left and makes all 3 FTs.

Ugly game by IWU.  Lucky to win.

A few observations from the IWU/Coe game...

* The Titans are big and physical, but the outside game is a huge question mark right now.  I think IWU made just 2 3's -- the second being a huge 3 by sophomore Parker Musselman in the final minute to give the Titans a chance.  I think IWU's perimeter game will get better - the personnel out there is basically brand new (with Brady Zimmer, Pat Sodemann, and David Molinari out with injury) - but it was not pretty tonight.

* It looked to me like the Titans played with a lot of nerves tonight.  Just a lot of missed open shots that guys normally make and other sloppy plays.  I'll bet IWU plays looser tomorrow and looks a lot better.

* Victor Davis went scoreless tonight.  Had a number of good looks, but just couldn't get anything going.  He was just out of sorts.

* Coe is a good team.  They're well-coached, balanced, and smart.

* Andrew Ziemnik is going to be a good player this year.  He does a lot of things very well.

The Titans were incredibly fortunate to win this game.  That said, a win is a win and this was a much needed in-region win.

A big-time escape by the Titans tonight.

Ugly maybe an understatement. Not a good outing by the Titans. Victor Davis puts a goose egg in the PPG column and we will need Victor to score against Loras

I should also mention that IWU's defense is very good...especially when Eric Dortch is on the floor guarding the perimeter.  That was the one bright spot tonight.  The defense kept them in this game.
