Fixed it for you, Bob. ;)

Greg, in the 20 seasons prior the 2011-12 (1991-92 through 2010-11), UW-Whitewater made it to one Sweet 16 ('95-96)...and zero Elite Eights.

Can that qualify as a "D3 power"?

Gregory Sager

The Warhawks won 388 games in that 20-year span from 1991-92 thru 2010-11. That averages out to over 19 wins per year. Aside from the anomalous 1999-00 campaign in which UWW went 11-14, the Warhawks never finished lower than 16-9. Nine of those 20 seasons resulted in 20 or more wins for UWW, and in ten of those seasons the Warhawks made the D3 tourney. And all this while playing in the toughest league in D3.

For five straight years in the '90s, the Warhawks were forced to play a Bo Ryan UW-Platteville team in the early rounds, thanks to unimaginative bracket construction on the part of the committee. The Pioneers won the first four before UWW finally broke through on the fifth attempt -- and then lost in the Sweet Sixteen to that very good '96 Hope team. So it's hardly fair to denigrate those VanDerMeulen UWW teams just because they were bracketed early against one of the greatest dynasties in D3 hoops history.

I'm quite comfortable calling UWW a perennial D3 power.

If that's "D3 power" I guess I have new appreciation for Illinois Wesleyan's 11 Sweet Sixteens, 7 Elite Eights, and 5 Final Fours over the course of the last 20 seasons.

Why do I have the feeling that you were setting me up for that? ;)

You're too good for that Greg.

The season is here...wake up.  I sensed you weren't fully engaged and it turns out I was right.

I blame it on having to keep score for a 97-20 women's game this evening at the crackerbox. That's enough to numb anybody's noggin.

The next time NPU is forced by a late cancellation to play the likes of Moody Bible Institute, the athletic department had better set out a pot of coffee for the scorer's table.

Final: #3 UW-Whitewater 71 #7 IWU 65. Just too much Darnell Harris (32 pts) and way too many turnovers (24). Titans fall to 4-1. #d3h

Q, well said.  I'm also always impressed with what our Titans have been able to do in the last 20+ years, and of course, even before when we went to Kansas City a number of times in the early Dennie Bridges era.

Greg, that sounds truly terrible tonight at the Cracker Box.  You might need something stronger than coffee.  I agree with you, by the way. on WI-WW.

With MIT's big big loss tonight to RI College, seems WW might well be the new #1 next week.

Well, it is certainly between them and Va Wes (who we certainly remember from 2006 :P), assuming they both take care of business this weekend.

Think how numb your noggin would be had NPU lost.  ;)
The specter of cancellation has been responsible for the consumption of not only coffee, but stronger spirits as well.  :-X

Anyone able to share thoughts on last night's UW Oshkosh/Augustana contest? I was surprised to see how close the final score was.  Off night for Augie?
