Just to clarify Greg's schedule - Wheaton plays at Northwestern (MN), not the much closer Big Ten variety! ;)

Thanks for the clarification, Chuck.  I mean, I assumed Wheaton was playing a Big Ten team.  Glad I know now.

As you probably know, the Titan women have played Big Ten Northwestern (though perhaps only exhibition; I don't recall).  I assumed it was the d3 Northwestern, but with Wheaton and d1 Northwestern being fairly close neighbors, I really wasn't sure.

I left off the state denominator on purpose, Chuck. There is only one team that merits the name "Northwestern" on this site. If Wheaton was playing the school in Evanston, I would've said Northwestern (IL).

The proprietor of this site apparently disagrees with you.  The scoreboard listing has Wheaton (IL) (for obvious d3 reasons) @ Northwestern (Minn). 8-)

Wheaton actually recently played Northwestern (IL) at Welsh-Ryan Arena in a regular season contest so it's not that far-fetched .  During the 06-07 season Kent Raymond had 17 in a 39-41 loss in Evanston where Andy Wiele missed a 3 at the buzzer for the win.

That's why I said "merits", Chuck. I think that Pat is wrong to label the D3 school in the Twin Cities as Northwestern (Minn.). After all, Cornell, St. John's, and Monmouth don't get the same treatment, and they each share a name with a D1 school as well.

Mr. Ypsi

Greg, check your PMs for an urgent message re: the national pickems.

Hey guys, I don't post very much at all, but I read the postings all the time. I have a question, why does it seem like NCC is still fighting for respect. They have a group of players who has been proving themselves the past 2 years and are currently 4th in the nation. The writers believe in them apparently, but it seems like the majority of posters find fault with them and are looking for them to fall on there face. Well with the exception of And One I'm going to assume he is Cardinal red to the end! Like now most posters are yeah Wheaton going to do this and do that. Respect is earned and not given, but doesn't a Co-Championship, a Championship, a Sweet 16 appearance, and a sky's the limit year equal respect? Oh well back to my read only status!

I can't recall the last post that didn't refer to NCC as the favorite (or at least A favorite) for the title.  How much respect do you need??!!

Wheaton was picked by the coaches as #5, and is suddenly looking MUCH more dangerous than that.  My team, IWU, seems to be the wild card - looked by many to be a top contender, and is now looking iffy.  (I still have high hopes that the Titans will eventually pull it together and contend for, if not win, the title; but so far they are perplexing.)

Wheaton is getting attention because they are exceeding the 'lack of respect'.  NCC gets continually mentioned as the (or a) top dog because they already had our respect.

Of that group, they are by far the last to join Division III and I felt at the time that we had to start adding them to the scoreboard that it needed to have a modifier. Similarly, we refer to the school in Baltimore as Notre Dame (Md.). In select cases, I feel there is too much confusion to leave a team without the modifier, even if it is the only one in D-III so named.

I'm a total basketball fan, doesn't matter to me, but when you say exceeds, lets not forget the 2009-10 team finished in 5th place I think, not certain. The next year with freshman, a soph and a sr, they rose to co champs. I come from the inner city Chicago and if you step on the court you're expected to win. But Wheaton, IWU, CC, and Augie are never counted out its the current NP, MU, EC that are true underdogs. Everytime MU wins I give them a standing ovation!

And probably continually necessary for close schools - though just identifying the non-d3 team by a modifier might be adequate after some time.

And, as izzy pointed out, Wheaton DID play Northwestern (IL) in a REAL game only six years ago.  I don't think my (or others) potential confusion on which Northwestern Greg meant was misplaced.  (Take that, snarky Bob! ;D)

Do you have an example from here on the board that demonstrates a lack of respect towards NCC, or someone "finding fault with them"?  I'm at a loss to figure out what you're referring to.

It seems Mr. Gamble is trying to generate fuel for the collective "NCC chip on the shoulder" prior to the conference race!  8-)

Agreed. No one wants any part of NCC this year with that loaded group of upperclassmen, and that should be respect enough. You can't play the "Nobody Believes In Us"/Disrespect card if everyone believes in you and you're ranked top 5 in the country. But good try. Better luck next time.

LMBO, has nothing to do with playing cards, I know my nephew, players, coaches, and student body will support to the end and they only care about one thing and that's 'GAME TIME'! I'm usually on the HS board, but just was reading posts and that's how I saw it. Now if there is a problem with my opinion/question please let me know, people aren't quite so touchy on other boards. Unless I hit a nerve? Well see you all in January, and may God bless each and every one of you!

These moments on the boards are the most entertaining. This person whoever he is comes asking for respect, gets reasonable answers, then posts an almost non sequitur response followed by leaving the board. Gotta love it.

augie_superfan, are you going to be updating your D3 system this year? Now that pre-conference games have started I keep checking to see the new ratings. I imagine the data collection is an enormous task. - newCCIWfan
