Capital sneaking in at the bottom gives Wheaton another win over a RRO
You win some, you lose some, and sometimes it rains.

New Regional Rankings out

Midwest
1 Illinois Wesleyan 17-3 20-3
2 Washington U. 17-4 18-4
3 Wheaton (Ill.) 15-5 18-5
4 North Central (Ill.) 18-3 20-3
5 Transylvania 17-4 18-5
6 Rose-Hulman 20-2 21-2
7 Augustana 15-7 16-7
8 St. Norbert 16-5 16-5

KnightSlappy's purely numbers-based system identified the same 8 teams, and had the first four in the same exact order.

I'm very confused about St. Nobert staying in over Grinnell -- Grinnell has now swept St. Norbert.

That potentially very significant #1 seed is going to be tight between Wash U and the highest ranked of the CCIW after the conference tournament...and maybe even Transylvania or Rose-Hulman.

Which might not like seem like a big deal on the surface...but it actually is a big deal for Wheaton in the Pool C picture (if Wheaton doesn't win the AQ).  I think the other day I counted 4 wins vs regionally ranked for Wheaton...now that number is 5.  The Thunder are in great shape for Pool C.

Good catch.

Per Grinnell... I suspect because their SOS is .06 below St. Norbert's and below .500 (.480) may be the biggest factor.

Per Calvin... an SOS of .438 and no results versus regionally ranked opponents is also playing a factor. We saw this with F&M last year as well.

And I would venture to say when breaking down a lot of these decisions, there is no specific criteria out-weighing any others. I think the committees are looking at all the data in front of them and weighing each one per the scenario they are looking at.

I guess that is what it is Dave, but they played two real basketball games -- and Grinnell won both.  And Grinnell's in-region winning % is better.

I just don't get it.

Yeah. I don't know if the committee has some sort of numerical value it places on a head-to-head win, but two of them should overcome that SOS difference.

Snake.

Thanks.  I was taking a completely playful, fun shot at IWU70.  Who has wished us Happy Year of the Snake in approximately 10 of his last 12 posts.  All in good fun.

No question we all have clarity on Snake Year per IWU70.

Other factors that I am not sure how they were weighed: St. Norbert is 1-2 vs. regionally ranked opponents, Grinnell is 2-0. St. Norbert is 16-5 regionally, Grinnell is 15-3. That is one more game for St. Norbert vs. regionally ranked opponents and three more games against regional teams. Again, not sure if that is the factor, but it is noteworthy. Grinnell wins the WP and the head-to-head... looks like St. Norbert wins the SOS, the regionally ranked opponents (just because they played one more game), and the fact they have played three more games.

I have no clue if that is what the committee decided to go with... just looking at the raw data. I am also not saying St. Norbert deserves to be above Grinnell, either. I could easily see Grinnell above them for the head-to-head... but I am seeing the head-to-head not winning decisions in other places as well as much as it is being used to determine placement.

Q, or anybody

Who you got?
1) Best conference (top four)
2) Which conference makes Atlanta

Amhurst-Williams-Middlebury-Tufts out of the NESCAA
Or
IWU-NCC-Wheaton-Augie out of the CCIW

IWU had to score the last ten to beat Tufts in December

December is a LONG time ago now, though. I think that we've seen IWU really come together as a team, as noted by comments by Bosko and others who don't really have a dog in the fight (in fact, their dogs LOST the fight to the Titans).

Considering we would need to see a bracket to figure that out... I will pass.

And this year I am going:

1) ODAC/CCIW/WIAC
4) UAA
5) NESCAC

I keep flipping around the ODAC, CCIW, and WIAC... I think the ODAC is far deeper with talented and quality teams and it is making for some incrediable basketball. The WIAC is certainly a challenging conference as always, but I think the top of the conference has come down a bit to the middle, which is certainly making for some great basketball games (and the middle is very good, don't get me wrong). And the CCIW is clearly very good, but I don't think it is as deep as the ODAC and maybe the WIAC.

WUPHF

The Year of the Dragon was auspicious for everything--marriage, having babies--but the Year of the Snake is not the best for much of anything, but I am not sure that the Chinese zodiac addresses basketball.

The last three times we had the Year of the Snake, it looks like we had the following results:

Catholic University over William Paterson
Wisconsin-Whitewater over TCNJ
Wittenburg over Oneota State

I am not sure what this tells us about this season.
