Snake.

Thanks.  I was taking a completely playful, fun shot at IWU70.  Who has wished us Happy Year of the Snake in approximately 10 of his last 12 posts.  All in good fun.

No question we all have clarity on Snake Year per IWU70.

He has, however, neglected to inform us that the Year of the Snake always follows the Year of the Badger.

what next?  will we need to read every head coach's horoscope each day they play an ncaa post-season game to decide who is going to win?  who cares if it's the year of the snake or the year of the titan or the year of the banana slug???

I read your horoscope for today and it read:

you will read the posts on D3boards.com too seriously today and respond accordingly.  Respond early in the day and try again tomorrow.

in the tone of the mexican banditos signing up for service in 'blazing saddles' ...  horoscope?  we don't need no stinkin' horoscope!

... which Mel Brooks parodied from the original source, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948).

And, yes, I didn't have to show you any stinkin' badgers ... but I did, anyway.

Capital sneaking in at the bottom gives Wheaton another win over a RRO

Which might not like seem like a big deal on the surface...but it actually is a big deal for Wheaton in the Pool C picture (if Wheaton doesn't win the AQ).  I think the other day I counted 4 wins vs regionally ranked for Wheaton...now that number is 5.

No, it isn't. It's still four. The Wheaton win over Capital is not an in-region result, and is therefore not a part of the primary criteria, just as Wheaton's win over Calvin doesn't count as an in-region RRO.

The win over Capital is great for Wheaton in the secondary criteria phase of things, should it get to that point in the committee's team-by-team comparisons on Selection Monday, just as is Wheaton's win over Calvin. But right now, as it stands, Wheaton has a 4-3 RRO record as far as the regional rankings are concerned.

Right, my bad.  Might help like IWU's wins vs Staten Island and Bethany last year (secondary criteria) but doesn't count as win vs regionally ranked (primary criteria...which is much more significant).

Well, "gentlemen," it is still the Year of the Snake.  Just wanted to be sure you knew.

I can also assure you that Hong Kong is definitely "out of region," not counted in any wins against regionally ranked teams. (and that any second tier CCIW team could take down Hong Kong's "semi-pro" teams here, mostly featuring ringers from the Philippines).  :)

New Regional Rankings out

Midwest
1 Illinois Wesleyan 17-3 20-3
2 Washington U. 17-4 18-4
3 Wheaton (Ill.) 15-5 18-5
4 North Central (Ill.) 18-3 20-3
5 Transylvania 17-4 18-5
6 Rose-Hulman 20-2 21-2
7 Augustana 15-7 16-7
8 St. Norbert 16-5 16-5

Two big losses in the region tonight...

- Transylvania loses at home to Hanover
- Rose-Hulman loses at Earlham

This should create more separation in the primary criteria between the IWU/Wash U/Wheaton/NCC pack and the two HCAC schools.

Earlham is 3-21 AFTER this win.  That is a bad, bad loss for RHIT.

Wow...I didn't realize it was that bad.  Holy smokes.

These were both big losses by the HCAC teams.  The CCIW took another step closer to locking in 3 teams.

I don't know how I ever kept up with this board.

IWU70, your posts are at least 10 notches less intense than everyone elses and they make me smile. :)

April, I trained him well while we were Green Weenies! ;D

(Actually, he was a BMOC; I'm not totally convinced he even knew who I was back then! :P)

If the Augie Doggies round out the conference tournament field, then:

- The CCIW winner picks up two wins against regionally ranked opponents for seeding/hosting purposes
- The CCIW runner-up picks up a win and a loss
- The two semifinal losers pick up a loss versus a RR team.

Everyone's OWP will rise as well.

These factors may mitigate the degree to which the conference's teams fall in the final regional rankings.  Either RH or Transylvania (or both) will also pick up another loss in their tourney.

iwu70

April, thanks for your kind words.  I do take a beating in here from time to time, as a lazy poster or an overly sinofied CCIW fan, or some such.  At least I haven't been accused of wearing my "greenie glasses" too often this season.  Oh well.  I'm just pursuing the Dao of DIII hoops, trying to stay calm in this otherwise sea of chippiness that sometimes erupts in this room.  It all leaves me totally calm and cold.  It's great to have you and your cookie image back in the room. And, we need more folks here commenting on and supporting the Wheaties, so it's great you are back.  Wish your Wheaties well if they get into the Dance, sans games vs. my Greenies, of course.

Chuck, come on!!  I knew you back in the day.  I remember you as some kind of geeky math guy wanting to be an accountant or a math teacher, all skills of course that make you an excellent member of this brotherhood/sisterhood of IWU and CCIW fans here in Chat.  It was great you did finally make it back to IWU and worship, however briefly, at the altar of Shirk, and also attend your class reunion in 2010.  I'm fully expecting you to make further pilgrimmages, to see the latest banners and monikers, and attend our next big '70 gathering in 2015, yes, a big number, our 45th.  Say it ain't so.  I'm sure Tommy Gramkow, sore knees and all, will be there too.  Sheldon Thompson is in town often, so perhaps we can invite him as an honorary Class of '70 member, and, somehow, run down where Fred Evans is in California.

Sure looks good for three CCIW teams in the Dance.  Nice those other regionally ranked squads went down, but to a 3-21 team.  Wowza.  That's some kind of upset.

OK, enough nonsense from me.  Thanks again, April.  OK, ten notches back up, back to the intensity of the CCIW room.

And did I say it's the year of the Snake?

IWU70

iwu70

Earlham, the Quakers?, 3-21 wins?  Don't they play basketball by consensus?  Boggles the mind.

IWU70

Mr. Ypsi

Mark, now I'm SURE you don't even remember me from back in the day!  I was a religion major the first three years, then all sociology courses as a senior to switch majors.  I never took a single accounting or math (I tested out of the requirement) course my whole college career!  (Not sure that was smart, but that's what I did.  Ironic that I eventually specialized in teaching statistics!)

Oh well, we're friends now, even if 40 years delayed! :P
