C'mon, Matt ... you picked a Wesleyan alum and a Wheaton alum. Try harder. Doesn't Stunning Wayne Dunning go to any MU basketball games? After all, his kid's a running back for the Big Blue gridders.

Matt Nadelhoffer ‏@CoachNgoBIGBLUE
We tried everything tonight vs IWU...I even thought about checking Bryan Crabtree and my father in law Tom Dykstra into the game #newera

If Nadelhoffer had his way, he would be the one suiting up. That I'd like to see.

iwu70

blue_jays, you're just in self-denial.  Get with the program.

Glad to see Eric Dortch get so many minutes tonight and continue to play so well.  He's quite a weapon in many ways off the Titan bench.  Mayberger also had a nice game tonight.

On to NCC.

My bad, the 13-0 comment did not have sarcasm font included. I'll work on that for the future.

Mr. Ypsi

What would scare me would be if Matt had Jesse Price ready to come in!  I don't care if he would be about 67 by now! ;D

How many different IWU players have led the team in scoring in a game this season?

I count Ziemnik 7 times, Zimmer 5, Davis 4, Overstreet 3, Mayberger and Sodeman 2 each, and Reed once - so seven.  So, go ahead, focus on one guy (or even two)!  "Make my day!"

Just because you have a kid on a team, doesn't mean you have any interest in other sports. If they're playing a hated rival or for the conference championship, maybe.

Augie's narrow win at Elmhurst coupled with Wheaton's equally narrow win over Carthage allowed Augie to qualify for ther CCIW tourney for the 8th straight year. The bad news for Augie is that Matt Roth suffered a serious ankle injury in the game, that probably ends his season, while fellow guard Brandon Thompson was suspended from school for violations of the school's conduct requirements and will not be returning to  team or the the school next fall.

IWU will no doubt dispatch the guard depleted Vikings rather easily in the CCIW tourney opening game, but Augie did have a very respectable year given the team's dependency on freshmen and sophomores and the injury to big man Kevin Schlitter and the departure of Kameron Norton from the program. However, the CCIW is not kind to young teams, and Augie proved that once again going 0-6 against the top three teams in the conference.

Mark Roth, not Matt. ;D And I am sorry to hear that.

Wheaton struggled in getting by Carthage last night as Tyler Pierce had 20 and 7 and Mitch Thompson had 13 and 11 vs The Thunder. Mike Schauer said on the post game:

"There are two teams in our league who we struggle to match up with. Illinois Wesleyan, whom everyone has struggled with, and Carthage. Tyler Pierce and Mitch Thompson have offensive games that coincide with our biggest defensive weakness. Fortunately  we had the best player on the floor in Tyler Peters and he made some clutch free throws down the stretch for us. It didn't feel very good but it was a good win"

Peters finished with 24 points and went 13-16 from the line, most of those in the games final 3 minutes. Wheaton gets a split of the season series with Carthage and finishes @Elmhurst on Tuesday night. They have secured the #3 seed for the conference tourney.

Very ugly game at Shirk last night. 48 TOs and 46 fouls. Not an easy game to ref with so much physical contact. But the refs (Terry Murphy, John Lyman & Gerald Morrow) were inconsistent. I hope they don't appear next weekend at Shirk. Another huge crowd, 2500(?).  Stats for 2 IWU reserves: Mayberger and Dortch combined to go 7/9 from the field, 2/3 on 3s, 4/6 FTs, 8 RBs, and 20 points in total playing time of 31 min. IWU got 25 bench points.

In a JV game earlier, Mike Marietti, the 6'8" freshman from Providence Catholic, was outstanding. He can shoot (I think he was 8/9 from the FT line), block shots and is a monster defensive rebounder. Most IWU observers are predicting that he will be an impact player.

You clearly don't know who Stunning Wayne Dunning is, NCF.

Wayne Dunning was the CCIW's Most Outstanding Player in 1982-83 as a forward for the Big Blue basketball team. Dunning was a three-time All-CCIW first-teamer who ended his Millikin career with 1,456 points scored and 866 rebounds. He was one of the best basketball players I've ever seen in this league.

Just because you have a kid on a team, doesn't mean that you didn't play a different sport for that same school. ;) ;D

I felt refs got a little whistle happy trying to control the game which had no flow because of the whistles and turnovers .  Dortch did have an ESPN Sports Center Top 10 moment IMHO with the corner baseline dunk

But that's not what your post states.

All I did was mention Stunning Wayne Dunning. You're the one who assumed that he had never played basketball for Millikin. Given the fact that Matt Nadelhoffer mentioned two former CCIW basketball stars (Bryan Crabtree and Tom Dykstra) that he would've liked to have had suit up for the Big Blue last night, I thought it was pretty self-evident that Wayne Dunning was also a former CCIW basketball star. I merely mentioned his son Sean because his presence on the MU football team indicates that Wayne's still in touch with his alma mater and might still attend basketball games.

Quote from: NCF on February 17, 2013, 03:05:17 PMThat was 30 yrs. ago-ancient history:):).

Matt's father-in-law, Tom Dykstra, is at least a dozen years older than Wayne Dunning. He played for Wheaton from 1966-67 thru 1969-70.

I think you're kinda missing the point of the joke, NCF. Matt was making a light-hearted, wishful-thinking joke about CCIW players of old suiting up for his team -- presumably in vintage condition. I simply suggested, in the same light-hearted vein, that he should direct his wishful thinking towards a Big Blue star of yesteryear, rather than at guys who played for Millikin's rivals.
