Rule #1 in boosting ratings, never say when the guest will be on!!!!!  ;D ;D ;D

As a TV news/sports producer... I would agree. But having watched numbers live and looking back, telling people to watch an entire show for a guest has never worked to keep ratings or viewers.
But that's right during a new "Walking Dead"!

This is one of the most improbable results of the year...

http://www.d3hoops.com/seasons/men/2012-13/contrib/2013021760bf2u

Not only was Case Western Reserve 11-12 overall/4-8 UAA coming into 21-2/10-2 Rochester, but for some reason they played without 4 starters today.  Read through that recap - it's crazy.

The top of the UAA now is...

Rochester: 10-3
Wash U: 9-4
Emory: 9-4

Rochester has to go to Emory Saturday...if they lose, and Wash U takes care of business at home vs Chicago, Wash U will win the UAA AQ.

Unbelievable.

That is quite the surprise result, but Rochester showed once again they are a one-man show. DiBartolemeo had a rough game, hence the loss. Hope WashU gets the UAA auto bid so that Wheaton and NCC can be selected sooner in Pool C (assuming neither get auto bid).

Cheering for Wash U to get the AQ.  Definitely.

Glad to see such a huge crowd @Shirk for Senior night.  The video feed, coverage for those of us on the Far Side, was excellent.  Thanks to all those involved in the video streaming and commentary from IWU now.  Very good.  Even enjoyed watching a little nonsense from the "student section," which was also full,  . . . really the Sig crazies, (and their Dad's!), it would appear.  They normally go a little nuts when Musselman comes on the floor.

Hope an equally big crowd, turnout for the CCIW tournament.  Should be a great atmosphere for two TITAN wins.

Rochester entered February with a full two-game lead over Emory and Brandeis as the UAA made the turn into the second half of their schedule.  They were three in front of Wash U at the time.  That would be quite a collapse if they lost the AQ to the Maroons.

Case started a player who had not scored a point all year (he played 36 minutes and scored five), and the only bench player they used played 26 minutes after logging just 36 to this point in the year.

Weird result.

I don't think Wash U getting in via the Pool A bid, instead of Pool C, makes much difference for the CCIW.  I have IWU, Wheaton, North Central, and Wash U all safely in, without any drama.

Q, I'll cheer for them anyway.  Wash U coach's spouse, an IWU grad, classmate from IWU'70.  Respect the Wash U program and hope they get in -- in the best possible way.  Looks good for three CCIW teams in.

One more game for our Titans to be perfect in CCIW.  Hope it happens.  Should be quite a battle NCC vs. IWU on Tuesday next.

A comment on Mark Edwards: IWU fans should love him. He's a great guy and a great coach. And even though IWU has handed him some of the toughest losses in his stellar career, he respects IWU. His daughter went to school at IWU and, I think, played softball. Credit him indirectly with IWU landing Pat Sodermann, a great addition to the IWU program. His brother, Buddy, was referred to IWU by Mark Edwards as a great candidate for the new paid intern assistant coach position which IWU created beginning with the 2010/11 season. Buddy left IWU after two years to go to Loras and Pat arrived.

Please watch Sports Center for one of the most controversial calls I have ever seen. ISU played Wichita State tonight in Normal and had a substantial lead throughout most of the game. With 50 seconds left, ISU's forward rebounded a missed WS shot and to protect himself from falling, kicked both legs into the air. His shoe made clearly unintentional contact with a moving WS player, grazing the WS player on his face.  Nothing was called by any official. 5 seconds later, an obvious foul was called on WS.  After a long delay to check the replay, the officials ruled that the preceding inadvertent contact by the shoe grazing the WS player was a technical foul for contact above the shoulder (new rule this year). ISU was allowed to shoot its 2 FTs first which were good. Then WS shot the 2 shot technical, made both, and got the ball out of bounds and made a 3. WS won with another 3 with 4 seconds left.  ISU fans were stunned and outraged and several objects (plastic balls and boxes) were thrown on the court.
thrown on the court by ISU fans.

Doesn't sound like a happy time in Redbird Arena.

Share the kind thoughts about Mark Edwards and the Wash U program.  His spouse is a great lady too, member of my class at IWU, Mary Cross Edwards.

Pat Sodemann has been an absolutely crucial part of the IWU success this year, along with Dylan Overstreet's emergence as an All-CCIW PG, Sodemann's contributions have made the Titans almost stronger on the perimeter than they were already in the paint, and that's saying something.  Add to the key games, earlier season contributions of Zimmer and Mayberger from the perimeter, and you see how the Titans were reborn in CCIW play, as compared to their earlier pre-CCIW phase.  Sodemann is a really nice guy, too.

It's also worth noting that Ron Rose recruited Pat Sodemann out of high school (while Buddy was still on the staff at Wash U).  Ron was in on Sodemann pretty good before he picked D2 Truman State.

Gainers:

Virginia Wesleyan - Overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and won by a point at then-ODAC leader and 11th-ranked Hampden-Sydney, and then defeated Lynchburg (9-7 / 18-7 / Massey #47) at home.  The Marlins are the top seed headed into the ODAC tourney.

Stevens Point - Closed out the regular season with a 2-point OT win at Stout (11-5 / 19-6 / Massey #11) and a double-your-pleasure 68-34 win over Eau Claire (4-12 / 10-15 / Massey #125).  The Pointers take the WIAC regular season title at 14-2 and have a bye in the opening round of the conference tournament.

Whitworth - After a pair of losses to top-tier NWC teams last week, the Pirates feasted on two teams at the foot of the table this week, winning away at 3-13 / 4-21 Linfield and 4-12 / 7-18 Willamette.  Next up: Lewis and Clark in the NWC semifinals.

Williams - Another team that bounced back in the polls after a setback the prior week, as the Ephs topped Trinity (2-8 / 9-15 / Massey #277) and Bates (4-6 / 10-15 / Massey #242) in Williamstown.  Williams hosts Middlebury in the final NESCAC matchday on Saturday.

Whitewater - The Warhawks extended their winning streak to seven on the trot and earned the WIAC #2 seed with wins over opponents who will sit out the six-team WIAC tourney: a 17-point win in Oshkosh (2-14 / 7-18 / Massey #163) and a surprisingly tough three-point decision over River Falls (3-13 / 8-17 Massey #140) in Whitewater.

MIT - The Engineers' opponents were on both ends of the D3 spectrum this week, as they took down then-#5 WPI in a 69-60 decision, then sent Wheelock (2-14 NECC / 3-22 / Massey #405 of the 412 ranked teams) to its eleventh straight defeat in a 76-34 romp.

Decliners:

Wash U - The Bears split their games on an East Coast swing in the UAA, losing by four at NYU (4-9 / 14-10 / Massey #89) before winning by 16 in Waltham over Brandeis (8-5 / 17-7 / Massey #40).

Rose-Hulman - The Engineers saw their eight-game winning streak stopped in a head-scratching loss at Earlham (3-15 / 4-21 / Massey #335) before recovering to close out the regular season with a two-point away victory over Hanover (14-4 / 19-6 / Massey #54).  R-H hosts the HCAC tourney and awaits the Franklin/Defiance winner in the semifinals on Friday.

St. Mary's - The Marylanders fell by a point in OT at Salisbury (9-3 / 18-7 / Massey #56) on Wednesday before topping visiting Mary Washington (6-6 / 13-12 / Massey #146) over the weekend.

Rochester - The Yellowjackets held off cellar-dwelling Carnegie-Mellon (2-11 / 5-19 / Massey #226), 81-77, in the first game of this week's homestand, before succumbing to Case Western's reserves  (5-8 / 12-12 / Massey #101) on Sunday.
