do you think there will be any difficulty finding a seat at the house that  beernuts built for tonight's championship game?  what?  they did?  oh, that's different ... never mind ...

In terms of the final Midwest regional ranking, there is no question Wash U will be the #1.  The Bears were #2, IWU lost twice, and Wash U beat Chicago today.

IWU will be ranked ahead of Wheaton for sure.

IWU vs NCC probably depends on the result tonight...if NCC wins, the region probably goes Wash U #1, NCC #2, IWU #3, Wheaton #4.

The big thing that shifted with IWU's losses this week is seeding, and therefore hosting opportunities.  Wash U now will have a chance to play 3 home games before Salem.

Rochester lost @ Emory today, and Wash U won, so Wash U is the Pool A team from the UAA...the Bears are not a Pool C team.

Not a huge impact there since Rochester was a lock, but it does mean that either IWU or NCC will be the first Midwest Pool C "at the table" when the process starts.  One less Pool C for the CCIW teams to have to wait behind, which is always good.

Bob, IF NCC wins tonite, do you really think WashU as #1 is a 'slam-dunk'?  WashU would have added one win against an unranked oppenent to their resume; NCC would have added 3 wins against RROs since the last rankings (and, thus, a huge boost to SoS).  If NCC wins, I'd say it is a tight call, and I'd give a slight nod to the Cards.  (Since both would be Pool A, it really doesn't matter except for hosting privileges.)

Wash U was two spots higher in the last ranking (#1 IWU, #2 Wash U, #3 Wheaton, #4 NCC) - on the surface, I don't see NCC making up two spots with Wash U not losing.

But yes, it could be tight.  We'll have to look at all the final numbers when the dust settles tonight.  NCC certainly will have added a ton to the resume this week with a win tonight.

I know I'm not Bob and definitely don't have 1/10th the knowledge or skills so won't pretend to be... but my two cents anyway:  I think WashU is #1 no matter what.  They won their conference championship today and one of the "perks" of being in the UAA is that you can have so many more games against regionally ranked since your conference is spread across many regions.  When last weeks rankings were released it was surprising that Wheaton was behind WashU since they had very similar numbers and Wheaton beat them this year but apparently the regional committee was enamored with WashU's 6 wins vs. 4 wins against regionally ranked opponents.  I think that's a mistake on the committees part (having multiple regions for your conference is an unfair advantage if the counting stats are given such credit) but it probably gives us a pretty good idea of where WashU will be ranked come Monday.

This is where my head was at first, but I do think Chuck has a good point.  The final numbers would be something like...

Washington U - 19-5 (.792)/.567*/6-4
North Central - 22-3 (.880)/.528*/6-2

* SOS is only through last Sunday - since, NCC will have played IWU, Wheaton, and Augustana.  (Wash U, just Chicago).  NCC's SOS is going up significantly.

Also consider, NCC picked up a win vs IWU (which eliminates the advantage Wash U had with a head-to-head over IWU).  And NCC picked up a 2nd win over Wheaton (Wash U lost to Wheaton).

Honestly, I think I've talked myself into NCC being the very likely #1 in the Midwest with a win tonight.

And you know what the crappy part is...they don't release the final ranking.  We won't know who #1 is.

Yeah, you're correct, NCC would have a strong case.  Much closer when you put the numbers out there like that.

The next question then would be is there a facility problem for them in being able to host until Salem?  I do think the format this year really helps them out in this regard.  If it was the typical four team pods, Merner might be a detriment, but since it's just a head to head match up each week, I think there's a lot more leeway.

I know they don't put out the final rankings.. what about the final spreadsheets with SOS and wins vs. Regionally Ranked.. etc.?  Is so, when do those come out?

Titan Q

Oh, way worse facilities than Merner Fieldhouse have hosted NCAA games -- like Alexander Gym at Lawrence, just to name one.

No concerns with NCC from a facilities standpoint.

SevenTen

I'll admit I'm pretty new to all of this (though am enjoying it a lot).  A few questions:

1) When is the All-Conference Team released?  I could have sworn I knew the teams before the CCIW tournament last year but haven't heard anything this year.

2) Do the final regional spreadsheets get released (even without the final rankings)?  When?

3) Each week they'll assign sites I assume?  So if two upsets happen in the same spot of the bracket, those two teams aren't traveling to a neutral court of one of the favorites right?  (Seems like a stupid question and I assume someone playing always hosts but the NCAA is...well.. the NCAA.

Thanks for any info!

Agree with first highlighted sentence, but IF NCC and WashU meet before Salem, the second sentence is not correct - just see whether the game is in St. Louis or Naperville! ;)

I'd agree with that. Deavis Johnson's numbers were a little better, and T.J. Griffin was very impressive, but I'd still give Ryan the edge based on his all-around game.

Man, I was just getting on here to say we have the WWF announcers tonight!

The cadence of his words is just strange, sometimes, it suddenly becomes rapid fire at the end of some sentences which don't really call for it.

Oddly though, sometimes people who have a quirky, unique, cadence go a long way in broadcasting.

When this game is over, go back to the video and check out Grey Giovanine's response to the third foul being called on Brandon Kunz at the 10:10 mark of the first half. He does the electric boogaloo on the sideline, and ... well, it's just hard to describe. But it was darned funny to watch.
