If it wasn't for the NCAA moguls (who care not one iota about D2 And D3 and probably couldn't pass a multiple choice test if you listed 5 D3 and 5 D2 teams and asked them to select which teams were D3 or D2), the 4-team pod would be intact this year and the dreaded "bracket of death" could have been easily avoided in order to whittle the survivors to 16 after next weekend's action. And, it's useless to add that in order to insure the genuine STUDENT-athlete approach of D3 (unlike the pretend approach of D1), the tournament should end on St. Patrick's Day weekend rather than 3 weeks later on Sunday, Mar. 7. I hope Wheaton winds up in Atlanta and forces the NCAA decision makers to either switch the D3 title game to Saturday or declare that Wheaton must forfeit!
Not that I am 'praying' for this --- Calvin and Wheaton in a championship match would present NCAA with tough choices ... and a lot of press coverage it likely does not want.

D3 as a whole was asked if they were interested in taking part in the 75th Anniversary of basketball in the NCAA with their title game along with D2's to be played at the D1 Final Four. D3 carefully considered it and then approved this event for this year (as did D2). That approval included Division III presidents who run the ship in Division III. No one higher up forced D3 to do this... so your idea that NCAA moguls forced this on "us" is incorrect.

Could the bracket of death possibly been avoided with a "traditional" pod system... probably. But the committee tried their best to avoid it as well. When Pat and I were trying to bracket we kept getting stuck in the Midwest region because we had some nasty second round games that kept popping up.

70,
I've spent the last couple of days down in Chinatown, San Francisco. What's with all the snakes?

If you know the area, what's your favorite restaurant, in C Town?

That's odd, is it possible there is some sort of Serpent Festival going on?  ;D

That in no way means Wheaton or other religious schools where for playing on Sunday or as the Coach refers to it in most post game interviews the Lords Day taken from the Heidelberg catechism.  They have always purposely avoided playing on Sundays and I don't think that has changed.  I am for accommodating all schools in the NCAA of any creed and religion as long as it is reasonable.
Are sports about making student athletes go against their beliefs?

Somehow I think announcing you're moving a game to Monday because one or two schools have religious principles is better than having to announce you fired your lead investigator because of unethical conduct while investigating an NCAA school's unethical conduct.  Seems like exactly the kind of news the NCAA would want.

Maybe its just me.

even if the movie stretched the truth a "little".  He actually knew the schedule weeks before the boat left the dock.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

I don't have any problem with the coaches' snubbing of NPU for the All-CCIW team. I don't think that Mark Holmes deserved a spot, and I don't think that any of his teammates did, either.

Regarding not playing on Sundays: the NCAA has never forced teams unwilling to play to do so (or made them forfeit).  They have already announced that if such a team makes it to Atlanta, the game will be on Monday.  (And since there will be two whole weeks between Salem and Atlanta this year, there will be plenty of advance notification for fans, etc.)

Out of curiosity, does anyone know who all such teams are?  I'm pretty sure that Hope, Calvin, and Wheaton absolutely will not play on Sunday.  Messiah never schedules games for Sundays, but is willing to bend for make-ups or tournaments (so as not to inconvenience others, I would assume).  I would assume there are others, but these are the only ones I know about.

Transylvania's Brandon Rash dunks over a 7-0 freshman on Kentucky, causing John Calipari to call a timeout...

Great find, Bob! +k

If Brandon Rash wasn't playing the Titans, I think I'd pick him in the Fantasy draft! ;D

North Park teams will play on Sundays. I haven't heard of it being a bone of contention among Parkers for as long as I've been around, although there's plenty of people who would prefer that NPU not play games on Sundays.

I would imagine that the list of no-Sunday-athletics schools would include many of the D3 institutions on this list, besides the ones already named:

Baptist Bible
Bethel
Cairn
Covenant
Crown
Eastern Nazarene
Gordon
Greenville
Houghton
Lancaster Bible
LeTourneau
Maranatha Baptist
Northwestern
North Central (MN)

Watcher, all those snakes there in SF Chinatown are for the soup.  Get with the program!

Seriously, I used to know a great noodles and dumpling place call Wo Hop . . . not sure if it is still there.  It's a kind of hole in the wall type place, but great food, if you love noodles in soup and Shanghai style dumplings (xiao lung bao or jiaozi).  Hold the snake!

Looking forward to this weekend.  Transy looks mighty good to me, a good challenge for the Titans @The Shirk.  At this point in the season, you'd better be ready to place.  No nights off.
