Q, if our Titans get past Wash U and NCC falls to WW @BU's gym, do our Titans get another home game @The Shirk?  Assume if we have an all-CCIW 3rd round matchup that NCC gets to host as the higher seed, right?

WC has a tough road now in MSP,  vs. the Tommies.  I tend to agree with Greg that WC will have a tough tough time winning that one on the Tommies' home floor.

Good luck to all the CCIW teams this weekend.  (CCIW women are done, as Carthage went out vs. WW @WI.)

6) Lost to St. Thomas 70-78 in in 2011 (the closest game St. Thomas had as they stormed to a national title)

Yes, the closest game in 2011 for UST... up until that point. Or the entire tournament (but only if you choose to simply ignore the 66-64 Sweet 16 game against Stevens Point or the 59-57 game against Middlebury to get to the National Championship...)

4) Embarrassed Whitewater 85-71 in 2006 (following a 20 point lead by IWU in the 1st half, the Whitewater students chanted an obscenity for 20 minutes and left the building midway through the 2nd half, giving up in disgust)

You sure? That charge has been leveled a lot but the standard chant there is "You-Dub-Dub."

Yeah, I was at that game. IWU won it handily, that's for sure, but I don't remember anything of the sort from the UWW students. 'Course, that was 7 years ago, maybe I don't remember, but...

Wasn't it Stout or Whitewater who lost a game in the WIAC tournament by throwing the ball up in the air in celebration and hitting the rafters or scoreboard.  Resulting in one last shot for the opposition that won the game.

Maybe John can recall that one.

Definitely. Crazy ending to a wacky year. The 6th, 7th, and 8th seeds all upset the 1-3 seeds.  Read more about it HERE

The specific play you're talking about was in the 3 vs 6 game, River Falls hosting Oshkosh. Oshkosh had the ball, down 3. RF player Kent Becker steals the inbound pass and throws the ball up in celebration... but River Falls has a pretty small gym, so the ball hits the ceiling. This stops the clock and gives Oshkosh another opportunity... which they convert on, hitting a deep 3 to send the game into OT, where Oshkosh prevailed.

My Pointers lost on a long 3 that night too (2 vs 7) and the #8 seed Stout, who had been winless on the road in conference, blew the doors off #1 seed Whitewater 90-49.

or the previous night where the Tommies trailed with less than 5min to go while never trailing against IWU in the 2nd half.

I was at the scorer's table doing the radio and I can assure you the chant was not "You-Dub-Dub."  The chant from the UWW students - directed towards IWU PG Adam Dauksas first, and then IWU in general next - was awful, which is probably why many IWU fans who were there remember it.

It was a charged up tournament atmosphere that night and the students just sort of lost it.  I've been to UWW other times and not seen that at all.

What's so bad about "YOU-AW-FUL"?   8-) I can see how that could get mistaken for "You-Dub-Dub."

The first word was definitely "You,"  but it wasn't followed by "Dub-Dub."  It started the moment the IWU players took the floor for warmups and even when they were 20 points down they kept chanting it.  There were a few other chants of words you wouldn't hear on prime-time TV.  Finally, a group of IWU fans--fan bus people included--had had enough, and started chanting "scoreboard, scoreboard."

I haven't been back to WW (not because of that experience, just because it's a long ride for a regular season game) so I am glad to hear that was a one-time thing.  I've always been impressed with their teams, both men and women.
You'll never walk alone.

Another question for those more familiar with the inner workings of the NCAA............

Given that we are in the national tournament phase of the season, and game details are no longer controlled by the individual schools, would you not think that there would be conformity between game sites?

Specifically, why would tickets have been $8.00 at UWW yesterday, $7.00 at IWU, and only $6.00 at NCC?
Looks like NCC is the more fan friendly institution.  ;)   ;D

sorry about the late response...just getting caught up with all this volume.

sorry and one, but absolutely no visitors will ever describe your barn as fan friendly!

Except that at least from a financial standpoint toooldto, the proof is, in fact, plainly evident as the above example illustrates.  ;D
Additionally, certain visiting fans have enjoyed a charming and delightful time in The Hangar. Perhaps your negativity lies in the fact that you have not acquainted yourself with those that have the capability of making this happen.  ???   :-X   ;)

Lower ticket prices do NOT equate to "fan friendly".  your facility is lacking.  and my negativity is entirely based on my EXPERIENCE in your facility.  No dependence on wins or losses.  I have attended a number of games in the Barn for the last few years.  Each experience relative to other environments is disappointing to say the least.  I understand your deep need to be proud and represent the program that you are heavily invested in.  But, COME ON!

It appears that not only are you toooldtohoop, but also toooldnottobecrabby. My smileys obviously had no effect.   :o

So lets say The Hangar is not the Taj Mahal of basketball facilities. Tell me too, what facility does your team play in?

You say that you have attended a number of games in the Hangar over the last few years, and that your experiences there have been "disappointing." I think the natural follow-up question to your statement is why do you continue to attend if doing so leaves you with a "disappointing" feeling? After all you can now just stay home and watch the game on TV. I promise you we won't be "disappointed" by your absence.  :-*

Forget about the experience of Merner for a minute.  What about the fact that NC is 27-1 at home over the past two seasons and now has to play a playoff game on a neutral floor?  Does anyone else think that the Cardinals just threw a huge advantage in the Dupage river?   I'm not saying that NC can't win the game, but it just got much more difficult.

A few people struggling with quote formatting in the last 12 hours.  It's tournament time - let's tighten things up, people.  This aint early-November.

Thanks for your attention in this matter.

Coach Edwards absolutely, positively, unequivocally guarantees a victory over the IWU Titans.  He later went on to call the Titans "a bunch of softies"...but mysteriously that part got cut out of the archive.

Unbelievable.  Put it on the bulletin board in the practice gym!

From the department of Things That May Only Amuse Me:

When I cut and pasted the quotes from the article in the Central Kentucky News Journal, it tried to append a link back to the article into what I had cut.  So it would have looked like this:

-----

"We knew they were big, we knew they were physical, but to see it on film and to see it in person are two different things," Centre coach Greg Mason said. "That's the best team we've played in five years. It's not even close." - See more at: http://www.centralkynews.com/amnews/sports/amn-centre-basketball-centre-men-fall-to-north-central-6650-in-ncaa-division-iii-first-round-20130302,0,5365598.story#sthash.QvKRBpzf.dpuf

Interesting tactic to drive traffic back to their site -- and not something I think I've seen before.

SI.com has been doing this for a year or two...and I think I've seen it one or two other places, but it's definitely not commonplace. I'd guess it becomes more commonplace as time goes by, though.

The key to the WC victory last night was that they returned to the style of play that got their season off to a surprising start.  Namely strong deny defense and sharing the basketball.  A number of Wheaties contributed to the second half turnaround.  The offensive efforts of Kvam, Haynes, Smith, and Teuscher stand out.  But they also defended well as a team in the second half.

Hopefully, the first half display was due to a virus that has been shed.

If the team that beat WashU, and the team that beat NCC, and the team that beat Calvin, shows up in Minnesota....

Hoping their spring break gets spoiled by practices!

....we still lose by 6. Unfortunately, IMHO if the Thunder play their best game and the Tommies play their best, Wheaton still loses. If they shoot like they did @Augie in the 2nd half of that game (70%) they have a chance.
