Pretty safe bet that IWU's starting lineup is set for the Winona State game Saturday...the reserves are just my best guess.

G - Dylan Overstreet, 6-3 Jr (Bryce Dolan, 6-0 So)
G - Pat Sodemann, 6-3 Jr (Alex Rossi, 6-5 Jr)
F - Andrew Ziemnik, 6-5 Sr (Mike Mayberger, 6-6 Sr)
F - Victor Davis, 6-5 Sr (Eric Dortch, 6-4 Sr)
C - Nick Anderson, 6-10 Sr (Trevor Seibring, 6-8 Fr)

6-6 sophomore Ryan Coyle is knocking on the door too and could see some time.

Yes, good Pgraph piece here too.  Always something to begin the year . . . and this time surely some important injuries, esp. to Zimmer and Nelson.  Q, I'm not sold on Marietti at all, surely not as a starter at the 5.  I'll put my money longer term on Trevor Seibring.  The kid knows how to play, has great fundamentals, very good work ethic.   Moot point now that Marietti has had the surgery.  Hope he's a good healer and hope Nelson gets back without complications.  That's more key or things at the PG and the 2 could get quickly thin, even though we thought the Titans were so deep everywhere.   I also had Coyle and Heyen moving up, playing more of a role as those in front of them on the depth chart had issues or injuries.  Good thing Rossi can play at the 2 as well as at the 3.  Mayberger still that smart all-purpose rotational sub, playing quality minutes, hitting key shots, making good decisions.

Good luck to the Titans this weekend in Minnesota.  Where the heck is Winona State?  Only two weeks not 'til tip-off vs. Manchester @The Shirk, 8 p.m.  Aurora or Ripon the next day, Saturday the 16th.

Whether Nick Anderson or Mike Marietti is the better starting 5-man, I should say that I'm glad you are not making our personnel decisions.

We know Pat Coleman the website guy.

Now meet Pat Coleman the basketball player - http://www.elmhurstbluejays.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=3244&path=mbball.

When I was growing up, there was a Pat Coleman who played basketball very very well at Mankato Loyola High School and was fairly well known in the Twin Cities for an outstate high school basketball player. A couple times when I introduced myself, I was asked if I was him. Yeah, no.

He went on to play for Mankato State, a D-II school. Tying it back around to the CCIW, you can see he was pretty good there and he played for someone people here might be familiar with:

Q, of course, I'll leave the personnel decisions to Ron Rose.  But, I see what I see and I haven't seen much from Mssr. Marietti, last year or this.  Of course, it could be because of the bad knees, very limited game-time PT.  He's no doubt a big body.  Nick Anderson or Vic Davis at the 5 is the best way to go, and Trevor Seibring is coming on fast.  For the next 8-10 weeks, I'm sure we'll see these three at the 5, as Marietti recovers, rehabs.  Perhaps he'll make a contribution, have his day by mid-January when back in playing shape following the surgery.  Seibring is pretty good around the basket -- similar to Kevin Reed in that regard, soft hands, good court vision, and knows how to set a very solid, accurate and proper screen in the lane area.  Good fundamentals and foot work.  Runs the floor pretty well for a big kid.  Very comfortable playing at Shirk from his high school days and career.

Time will tell.

The resemblance is uncanny.

Yeah, seems to run in the Coleman family.  EMU had a female bball star a few years ago named Ryan Coleman.  It was hard to tell them apart too! ;D

Regarding the rules change to restrict the use of hands. First, there is and always will be a lot of contact in post play. I don't think the new rule will do much to restrict that. However, there was so much hand checking on the perimeter that a lot of point guards were held, pushed, and shoved to exhaustion. I think that the NCAA recognized this and thus the new rule. I hope the rule is enforced. It may result in longer games but true athletic ability will be rewarded and the game will lose some its football mentality trend. And most point guards are good free throwers. So it will not be advantageous to repeatedly foul them.

Just a note from my neck of the woods:

Millikin has it's 2013-14 roster up.

Notable changes... Alex Tueth (12-13 averages: 11min, 5pts, 2reb) is not listed on the roster. I saw Alex play a few times last year and thought he might be able to help the Big Blue out. A little undersized and finished last season hurt --- maybe still dealing with complications from the injury???

Most of the Millikin players have made significant weight gains compared to last season's roster (though still TBD how much of that is on paper and how much actual gain).

Thinking about making it out to watch the Big Blue take on #11 Wash U on Sunday in their opening scrimmage. Looking forward to a new season!

IWU faces NCAA Division II Winona State Saturday at noon in an exhibition game.  Live video here - http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/winona.portal#.  And live stats here - http://www.sidearmstats.com/winona/mbball/.

The Warriors went 27-8 last season, advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.  They lost 3 starters, including NABC national Player of the Year Clayton Vette (20.5 ppt, 7.7 rpg).  Winona State enters the 2013-14 season ranked #25 in the Division II Bulletin poll.  They were picked 2nd in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Winona State's returning starters are:

PG - Taylor Cameron, 6-5/200 Sr (10.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.5 apg)
SG - Kellen Taylor, 6-7/215 Sr (6.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg, .474 3-point)

The Warriors will have several new frontcourt players this year.  Sounds like some of the guys in the mix are:

F - Nick Arenz, 6-8/225 So (transfer from DI UW-Green Bay)
F - Mark Blacklock, 6-6/210 So
F - Kyle Melcher, 6-6/240 Sr
C - Skler O'Laughlin, 6-11/240 Jr

Winona State head coach Mike Leaf is the school's all-time leader in wins, with 342, to go along with a .723 winning percentage.

Winona State has advanced to the NCAA tournament in 8 of the last 9 seasons.  The Warriors won the national championship in 2006 and 2008 -- one of their best players on those two teams was current IWU assistant coach Quincy Henderson.  Henderson was part of a stretch of 57 consecutive wins.

This should be a nice way for the Titans to get ready for the season.

St. Thomas has beaten Winona State in this exhibition in the past, I believe more than once in the past decade. Go get us a W for D3, IWU.
