Maybe I missed it but, other than the two upcoming NPU exhibitions, are there any other CCIW-related exhibitions in the next week or so?  Gettin' kinda itchy here.

Wheaton played Benedictine at home Friday night.  Overshadowed by the men's soccer game the same time.

They play in Rockford on Friday the 8th.

So "too old to hoop" but not too old to scoop!  Thanks.

From Iowa's perspective it was a "free-throw fest"   The Hawkeyes were picked 5th in BIG 10

Junior Aaron White(Iowa), who along with senior Zach McCabe led Iowa with 16 points in the contest, says something has got to give with the officiating.

"One of two things will happen," said White. "Either the teams will adjust or the refs won't be able to call it like that as the season goes on. One or the other is going to happen. Either it won't be enforced as quickly, or the teams will figure out they can't have their hands on people."

Some observations regarding the IWU/Winona State game: If IWU loses this year, their players can't use "My shorts were too restrictive" excuse. IWU's offense looked new. It featured crisp perimeter passing, good-look 3 attempts, very little dribbling except when the guards drove to the basket (especially Overstreet and Sodemann). IWU was 7 for 17 on 1st half 3s by 5 different players (2 by Rossi and 3 by Mayberger). The turnover albatross (IWU averaged 15 TOs a game last year) largely vanished with only 6 in the 1st half. Unlike last year, IWU won the TO battle, 13 to 17. Ziemnik was easily the best player on the floor. The new "no hand checking" rule really helped IWU. WS was called for 4 or 5 hand check fouls in the 1st half. IWU had very few for the entire game. Credit Ron Rose for this factor. A total of 22 fouls in the 1st half and 53 for the game, with 4 players fouling out. Get ready for longer games. WS stopped the hand checking in the 2nd half, no doubt due to halftime adjustments. This allowed Overstreet to penetrate to the lane for pull-up shots in the 2nd half. Ziemik and Davis and to a lesser extent Anderson and Dortch have gotten a lot stronger. One WS fan commented to me that Davis should become a professional boxer. WS has a ton of talent, including 4 redshirt freshmen, including 2 guards who combined for 41. Their best returning senior, a 6'5" guard (avg'd 10.5 last year), did not play (I'm guessing injury). With him, WS's starting lineup goes 6'10", 6'7", 6'6" and 2  6'5" guards (they start 3). I bet WS had a grueling practice today.

I like the new IWU unis.

Yes, I bet WS did have a very tough practice today . . . or tomorrow.

Very good quality performance by our Titans for a pre-season exhibition game.

Let's hope Zimmer and Nelson come back healthy and get into the mix for further options at the PG and the 2.

All I heard was that Wash U won, and that it "wasn't pretty."

Thanks.  Looking forward to see how much of a leap Coach Nadelhoffer's team can take this year.

Dan Jurgutis has done a nice job for Augie in his 1st two years, including starting last season. Surprising to not see him in the starting lineup against Iowa. Was AC's leading scorer despite the non start.

Winona State beat UW-Stout from the WIAC 83-56 tonight, for whatever that's worth.

I think that IWU win was a good one.

Got a chance to go watch the Millikin/WashU scrimmage on Sunday ... I think the jury is still out on Nadelhoffers squad. Here are a couple of my observations.

- WashU is much better than their #11 preseason ranking. One of the best teams I have seen in D3 in a long time. I would not be surprised if the Bears went on a run in February and won it all. I think their Dec. 7th matchup at the Shirk is going to be one for the ages. Perhaps a slight edge to IWU being the home team, but it's going to be two very physical teams going at it.

- The officiating has been a popular topic of conversation on here. While I would not call the officiating of the perimeter ticky-tack, I would call it fairly tight. I didn't think the calls were unreasonable, but things were called very tight. Meanwhile, I thought there was a bloodbath that went on in the interior with only a rare whistle being blown. It's going to be interesting to see how the officiating changes over the year.

- Several Millikin players were noticeably stronger than last year, I thought Wilfer, Johnson, Owens, Griffin have all made improvements in their bodies. However, despite the added strength, they struggled with the stronger and more mature WashU Juniors and Seniors. It will be interesting to see how they adjust over the course of the season and deal with the physical CCIW games.

- They played three 20 minute half's. Millikin took an early lead in the first half 6-5 after 5 minutes. But then WashU went on about a 20-0 run (I was keeping notes on a piece of paper so I'm not exactly sure what the run was) ... during this time WashU just completely dominated the action, were very physical, and did whatever they wanted on the offensive and defensive end. However, outside of that 20-0 run (which featured about 13 turnovers and 3 air balls) the Big Blue played the Bears relatively tough (I know that's a big "if", but I don't think it was really as lopsided as it initially appeared). The score after the first 20 minutes was WashU 33 – Millikin 12. The second 20 minutes WashU lead the entire way, however the lead fluctuated between 3-10 points with WashU winning MU 39-33. The third 20 minutes featured almost all bench and JV players.

- Johnson and Griffin both had fairly pedestrian games (5 points each by my count); the one player who I was really impressed with is reserve wing Jacob Kueker. According to my stats he was the Big Blue leading scorer, and he has really developed his game from last year where he was mostly a JV player. I think will help the Big Blue this year.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the Big Blue can do in their Saturday scrimmage vs MacMurray. Should be a very different game then the WashU scrimmage.

newCCIWfan,

Thanks for the Milllikin/Wash U write up. Was hoping someone that was there posted their comments. Plus K.

The CCIW pick 'em league will be starting on Nov. 15th. We're doing the entire season this year and not just the conference games.  There is still time to join and get your picks in for the 1st week. Don't wait until the last minute. The first week of games is listed on the CCIW pick em board at reply # 1326.
