Mr. Ypsi

Elmhurst was absolutely crushed by Stephen F. Austin, 83-49.  On the other hand, SFA is D1 and is 10-2, with a 23-game home winning streak. ;)  The Blue Jays can probably get a pass on embarrassing the CCIW! ;D

Did they misread the contract and think they were playing D3, 3-3, Austin College? ::)

Uh, Chuck, that would be the contract that assured the Elmhurst men's basketball program a sizeable chunk of guarantee money.

Yeah, I know.  But it seemed funnier my way! ;D

Congrats to the Titans on a great win in Holland, on a big stage, with a great crowd. 9-1 feels good.  Congrats to Zman on tourney MVP and All-tournament team, and to Vic Davis as well for All-tournament honors.  A good weekend.  Great to see Dolan living up to his potential, to all the props he got coming in on being a lights-out trey shooter.  Surely seems to be true so far this season.  I, too, have always liked the way Zman plays -- tough, hard-working, blue-collar player who just out plays many opponents.  He has a great sense of positioning and also uses his bulk, his size, now with more muscle, to surprise a lot of defenders.  He's quicker than most defenders realize.   Maybe without the hair he's even better!   :)  Dennie Bridges is smiling I'm sure.  Mayberger and Sodemann playing consistently well.   I see Anderson played 12 minutes vs. Hope so the ankle problem must not be too too serious.  Sure glad to see this -- now he has 2 weeks to rest it, get ready for the CCIW run.  Anyone know why Zimmer was not in the rotation at all this past weekend?  Still more back issues?

Congrats to EC on getting their money.  Pretty ugly.

Yes, some pretty wild games with some quite variant officiating and generous use of the T.  Perhaps we'll see more and more of this as the weeks go by.  Shows the necessity of teams, coaches being able to adjust quickly in-game as they see how the game is being called, what the temperament of a particular officiating crew might be.

One more game for the Titans -- vs. Franklin @The Shirk in early January -- then the conference season begins.  Here's my final prediction on the conference race from what I've seen so far -- for what it is worth:  IWU, AC, WC, CC, MU, NCC, EC, and NPU.  Could be one of those years when 11-3 gets it done.  Would love to see the Titans go 13-1 or better again this year -- of course.  Time will tell.

9-1 feels good.  Yes, I said that before.

Go Titans!!!  Keep it rolling.

Merry Christmas, all!

Mr. Ypsi

Nick Anderson may be not quite ready for action just yet - in the second half he had 3 fouls in 3 minutes (to foul out), with NO points, rebounds, or assists.

Bryce Dolan kept them in the game early - 14 points by halftime, in just 11 minutes of action.  Ziemnik was the #1 reason they eventually pulled away.

Hope may well be the best 3-5 team in the country - they are certain to challenge for the MIAA title.  (And they'd better win it, cuz they already have too many losses to have a decent Pool C bid.)

iwu70

Ypsi, seems on Anderson bad wheel = bad performance.  I'm sure Nick will rest it and get back to full strength by January 2 or 4th -- as the CCIW season opens.

Zman really had a great weekend.  Hope he wins CCIW Player of the Week.  Must be nice to play well in front of 2700+ fans.

Any word on Zimmer?

A good break now, 10-12 days, time to rest and get fully healthy for the CCIW run.  Glad to see Overstreet, Marietti, Nelson, Heyen? , hopefully Zimmer back, too, so Ron Rose has his full arsenal of players ready to go, all healthy for the CCIW race.

Chuck,

The reason Austin College is 3-3 is because Elmhurst is the team that gave them their 3rd loss only 3 days before they played Stephen F. Austin, so they couldn't mix the Austins up  as they had their Austins covered. ???

Sometimes it pays to check out the other regions boards. I never do...until today. Thought I'd take a peek at what is being said about/by fans of our next 2 opponents, Carthage and North Central. Thier boards appear to have been around years before the SUNYAC boards started. Coupled with the fact that many of thier regular posters are listed as "All-American" ( i.e. 3 on the last page of their most recent post) as opposed to our boards where the only regular poster who has that rank is Magicman. The bear is listed as "all-Conference" and he too is usually a regular as is JDEX who is listed as "All-region".. I expect to hear from both of them often as the season progresses! Those posters over there also seem to be alot more knowledgeable about whats going on within their conference as to who didnt play and who did and records broken and etc etc. Smart crew over there.

What caught my eye today was the following post by someone over there when assesing the next few games of Carthage (BENGALS next opponent).

"Carthage isn't very deep in the bigs (PF and C).  Marlon Senior has played great so far and Mike Kastel likes to rebound and fight in the paint, but there's a pretty big dropoff from those two to the backups and I don't think any of Van Wyk, McNellis or Valentine could be very successful with starter minutes.

They have more depth at guard/small forward and will have even more when Malcom Kelly returns, but even then, this team is not going more than eight deep.

With regards to scheduling, Carthage has played 4 Top 100 D3 teams (according to Massey), 2 weaker D3 teams, a very good NAIA team and a not so good USCAA team.   They have two other Top 100 D3 (Platteville and Eastern Conn) teams left in the nonconference schedule along with an ok Buffalo St, so I think it's been a good schedule to prep them for CCIW play."

Good stuff!

Good stuff!

I posted this quote from a Carthage supporter along with my thoughts on our SUNYAC boards on the 13th. My thoughts then were.."Good Stuff". You must earn the respect of your opponents.  Hopefully after this weekends results vs. Carthage AND North Central ( 2 very good teams IMHO), my BENGALS will get a better than "OK" rating! ;)

GO BENGALS :)

Keep in mind though, Bengals, that Carthage and North Central are probably projected to be the 4th and 5th teams (in no particular order) in the 2014 CCIW race -- Illinois Wesleyan, Augustana, and Wheaton seem to be the contenders for the top 3 spots heading into league play.  I think Elmhurst could even finish higher than one of these teams.  If one of these CCIW teams finishes 6th it won't be a huge surprise.

Buffalo State was 13-11 last year, 8-10 in the SUYNAC.  They came to Orlando with losses to Ohio Northern, John Carroll, and Hobart.  I think the "OK" tag by bopol was pretty fair for your Bengals...just as its fair for both Carthage and NCC.

Somehow I didnt think Bopol was calling Carthage  an "OK team". But if thats how you feel he surmised all the teams (Buff State, Carthage and North Central) before this tourney  were "OK" then thats fine.  I cant wait for his next assesment of North Central and/or Carthage after they both lost to an "OK" Buffalo State team.

Heading to the airport and leaving 80 plus degree weather for snow.

Best of luck to all the teams in the CCIW the good, bad.....and "OK" teams!  And Happy Holidays to all in the CCIW :)

GO BENGALS :)

I didn't mean offense.  I was defending Carthage scheduling a weak (oh, boy, now the Silver Lake fans will come after me) USCAA team and pointing out that they have a pretty strong nonconference schedule.  When I posted, Buffalo St was 4-3 and Massey had them at #114 or so in his ratings.  Since they weren't in the top 100, I went with 'ok' as an adjective to describe them, though 'pretty good' would probably be more accurate.

Don't let TitanQ fool you.  He's right about North Central, they're ok.  But his views of the world are all colored in green; Carthage is by far the best team in the CCIW and the fact that your team pulled some voodoo and escaped with a win should be considered the biggest upset of the year so far (except for Carthage's other two losses).  I don't know why it isn't on the front page of D3Hoops.com survey of the biggest upsets of the year.

Glad to give you guys on the SUNYAC board a little cannon fodder.

Well, if B-State can hold up their end of the bargain, I'm sure we will.
