carthage ncc game still on :D

augie wheaton game still on :D

Battle of styles in the Carthage game...... IM sure ncu is going to try to slow the game down and get the ball into gamble.  RedMen will counter with Kastel bodying up and try and equalize the bds.  Offensively, speed the game up if they can and continue to go to the foul line and drive and pitch to shooters.

augie wheaton  will be a battle... I predict wheaton by 10 or so pulling away late

good night of hoops on the internet.

Mr. Ypsi

I couldn't find anything on the CCIW website about the re-scheduling of the games in Bloomington and Decatur.  Anyone heard anything?

AndOne

There are no games scheduled for Wed, 2/19 so this has to be a possibility. I heard Tues, 2/18 may also be considered.
Last regular season games are scheduled for 2/22 with the CCIW tournament 2/28 and 3/1. The tournament dates make it unlikely that any postponed games would be made up after 2/22.

Titan Q

North Park @ IWU will be played Wednesday 2/19.

You have seen as many games in this league as anyone, to call Carthage Jeckl and Hyde is also a scooch of an overreaction .  To win 6 of 7 in the cciw requires a pretty consistent effort.  The biggest issue I have with the Red Men is their inconsitency from possession to possession but from a game to game standpoint they have put together enough good minutes to put talented teams like: @millikin, npu twice, ncu, wheaton and IWU away.

I've watched a lot of Carthage basketball this season, both on the Internet and live, and I'm pretty happy with my description of the Red Men as a Jeckyll-and-Hyde team. It's plain to me that mwunder absolutely nailed it when he described Carthage as a team that has consistently played to the level of its opponent thus far this season. With the possible exception of the second half that Carthage played against North Central in the Toolshed a few weeks ago, the second half against NPU the other night was the first real indication that I've seen from your team that it can put away an inferior CCIW opponent and keep it put away.

Although I think you might be encouraging activity that could get me bumped off in Bloomington.  :-\

I think it's already gotten to the point where you need a bodyguard whenever you travel to Bloomington. ;)

Elmhurst @ Millikin has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 19, at 7 pm.

Wheaton 76
Augustana 70

Augustana missed what seemed like a zillion layups and bunnies in this one. This game belonged to Nate Haynes (18 pts, 17 rebs), who was sensational for Wheaton. As was the case in Wednesday's loss to NCC, Augie made a late run in the final two minutes that fell short.

two critical missed FT's for Augustana only down 4 with less than a minute to play and all the momentum at the time.

Carthage 54
North Central 49

A defensive struggle that was close the whole way. I thought that it was well-played by both teams, although the whistles were pretty frequent (Gamble, Senior, Burchett, and Williams all fouled out). Carthage did a much better job at the FT line than did the Cards (20-25 to 10-18), and I think that that was the difference in the game.

An ugly game a North Central tonight but one the Red Men needed.  NC was actually running at Malcom Kelly with 2 guys in the second half and Carthage probably wasnt prepared for that but give thm crdit for the win.  Carthage killed NC on the boards and that was a big factor.

Once again the jekyll and hyde Red Men ;) have now won 7 of 8 and appear to be playing the biggest game in a few seasons at Wheaton Wed...  Im sure the RedMen will take that jeklyll and hyde reputation  if they keep winning games.

Mike Kastel is the underrated performer for this team.  He battled Gamble in both games vs North Central and has given Carthage a much need defensive presence and rebounder.

It seems North Central just keeps the flow of the game down and makes it hard for anyone to get into a rhythm.  They played the game the way they needed to but Carthage held on.

Big win ;D

Another nice road win for the Thunder tonight.  Great to get through this week with two W's.

toooldtohoop

Big game Wednesday for Wheaton vs Carthage.  I'm sure gramps will get his.  Hope the Thunder can contain Marlon and the gang enough to collect a W.

As is the case anytime a contender wins on the floor of another contender, Wheaton's win tonight at Augie was a big swing game in the CCIW race.  Whereas just two Saturdays ago, after Wheaton fell at IWU, the Thunder had two losses early in the race, all the sudden when you do the math on games the contenders should win and lose, Wheaton comes out the favorite at 12-2.  The Thunder are done with road games at Carthage, IWU, and Augustana and have a very realistic path to winning out.

Long way to go, but Wheaton won a huge game tonight in Rock Island.

Agree with Q, as usual, that WC got a big win tonight.  CC -- both men and women -- slipped by in NCC too, with games that both NC teams let slip away at the end, playing poorly in the final few minutes, shooting FTs badly at key moments.  Gramps got 16 and 7, with Gamble and Senior having quite sub-par games, many players fouling out.  Game was choppy with no flow, way way too many foul.  The rules changes are not doing at all what they said they would do -- this was an ugly, slow game.  Both teams played hard but all too slow, almost boring for my taste.

Bob: Minor error but IWU has been to 5 Final Fours since Shirk opened. Regarding Zach Freeman or Keelan Amelianovich on Shirk Center IWU First team: As you stated, different positions. Both were great players but Freeman had the advantage of starting every game for 4 years while A'ovich started only his final 3 seasons, so career stats are slanted in Freeman's favor. One player whose career stats are better than both is Luke Kasten, who started every game for 4 years despite playing with severe knee pain most of his senior year. Kasten is 4th in career points, ahead of Coon, Freeman, and A'ovich who were 5th, 6th, and 7th respectively. Kind of amazing that A'ovich was 7th in career points despite starting only 3 seasons. Kasten's career scoring average of 17 was better than Crabtree's, Coon's, Freeman's & Amelianovich's. Enough of IWU/Shirk history.

Regarding Carthage winning at IWU and Wheaton, they better do better than they have in their first 19 games at the Shirk Center of which Carthage has won twice. Ha! ;D

Regarding the cancellation of the North Park game at Shirk, 2 thoughts: 1) Wooster College owns one bus and in talking to the Wooster baseball coach at the NCAA baseball tournament last May, Wooster was thinking of buying a second bus. I don't think any CCIW AD's have gone this route. 2) I'm not blaming anyone and I know that many athletic contests were postponed on Saturday. But IIRC, the North Park football team was 2+ hours late for their game at IWU this October. Some mixup between NPU and their bus company which is located somewhere in Wis. as I recall. I know, mistakes happen and SNAFU is normal (a military term coined in WWII-the N in SNAFU stands for normal and you can fill in the blanks).
