I want Carthage to win this league so that there are three leagues with Wisconsin based D-3 champions.

WIAC:  Stevens Point
MWC:  St. Norbert
NACC:  Marian

Carthage winning the CCIW would make 4, so you've got that going for you.

Malcom, I take your point.  As a player, always focus on the work at hand, the next game, the next important opponent.  I don't put too much credence in the polls either.  I was just reporting the changes from the previous weekly poll which is put together by some reasonably well-informed folks, trying to assess the state of play during the D3 season.  I only take it as a reference point.  You could see the various opinions expressed, especially about Wash U at #4.  If you beat WC this weak, I'm sure Carthage will find some love, coming into the top 25 rather quickly.

I'm just hoping to see Gramps, to see you Malcom,  in those lovely red pants, then, that Bosko has been wearing of late!  Go for it!

In looking at the weather radar this a.m., sure looks like some more games may be postponed on Wednesday.  I totally agree with Greg's assessment of decision-making and safety issues in deciding whether to travel or not on snow-covered prairie Interstates.  I'm for "safety first" as well and always have been.  We surely don't need any weather-related tragedies during our otherwise fine and very competitive, entertaining basketball season.

Congrats to all the Titans who won Player of the week awards this week -- a near clean-sweep -- Katy Seibring in basketball, two swimmers, and two female track athletes.  All good stuff. (Greg, pardon the Titan promotion, but a fact is fact.  Did I mention Dawn Upshaw's fifth Grammy award? ).  Nate Haynes of WC won on the men's side after a monster week, two big double-doubles.  Congrats to him as well.

Hope the weather allows the games to be played, esp. the key games at WC and at The Shirk.

Sacre bleu!  I guess I started all this by calling some players "Mssr." Kelly, or "Mssr." Parker.

Guess Pat will have to start a new site now for French-speaking supporters of D3.  Any good liberal arts colleges with strong basketball programs in Quebec?

Millikin is closed today, and the NCC @ MU game has been rescheduled for tomorrow (Thurs) night at 7:00.
Wesleyan just opened at 10:00 this morning, and the game with Augie is on with no change in the scheduled 7:00 start time.

Would have to take Augie with the 7 there.

And I'd go Wheaton in the other I guess.

New poll, IWU up to #5.  Wash U at #4.  Amherst and Wooster dropping down.  Augie down to #23, Wheaton still getting some love in ORVs.  No love for Gramps and his Carthage squad.  Sorry Gramps.  More time to go.  I think Augie drops out of the top 25 with another loss or two.

Carthage women still flying high.

IWU70

Anyone else take issue with Wash U's ranking ABOVE IWU?

If ever there was a clear result in the head-to-head, the 25 point drubbing in the Nut House would be it.

I get that IWU went 1-0 on the week vs Wash U going 2-0, due to the the postponed game Saturday.

But IWU won via a 34 point drubbing of Milikin.
Wash U won their two games by a total of 7.

And I get that one of Wash U's victories had been against Emory, who was receiving votes. But Emory lost to BOTH Chicago and Wash U.

I just don't see any reason why IWU lost 23 poll points in a week that they went 1-0 and won their game by 34.

I DO get why they could have lost points the week before, after the Carthage loss (and they did lose points... 513 down to 502). But then to sink from 502 to 479 when they didn't lose?

That just doesn't make sense.

In a similar sense, I think that the ranking of UWW above St. Norbert is correct, by virtue of UWW's victory over the Knights. I don't understand how Norbert is above Amherst, Williams, and Wooster... but that's a discussion for the top 25 board.

I think D3 is the most likely places you will find "mature" athletes other than BYU.  I recall a running back for Elmhurst about 15 years ago who was in his mid 40's.  Not sure he made the entire season.  That would warrant a nick name like "Great Great Gramps" .   I think a more proper name for Kelly would be "Pappy" Kelly like Greg "Pappy" Boyington of WWII Fame.  He is their team leader on the court.

I am a Washington University partisan and there is probably no team I would rather see my team beat than Illinois Wesleyan. Having said that, I do not believe that they should be ranked above IWU.  But, if I am voting, how do I keep IWU ranked at No. 4 knowing that they lost twice in the past few weeks?

The obvious problem for Washington University is depth. They were quickly exposed in Bloomington with Klimek playing only 16 minutes. Aboona picked up fouls early too while Burt and Cooney fouled out.  But, they have not lost since losing to IWU in early December and have a very strong strength of schedule.

The head to head is obviously a concern, but there is seriously no way we will see anything like that score should both teams get the rematch in the postseason.

Just got a call from a friend of mine who knows D3 hoops.  He has a relative that works for Carthage and he is hopeful they win the CCIW.
Now I have even more reason to cheer for the RedMen.
