Just got a call from a friend of mine who knows D3 hoops.  He has a relative that works for Carthage and he is hopeful they win the CCIW.
Now I have even more reason to cheer for the RedMen.

They're currently getting their collective backsides handed to them in Wheaton...we need Mr. Hyde to show up in the second half.

Wheaton just went up 25.  Fat lady just started singing in Wheaton.

Wheaton is basically using Carthage to mop the King Arena floor. The Wheaties were up by 18 at the half. B. Teuscher had 17 in the 1st half for WC. Gramps Kelly was 1 for 8 in the half. About 5 1/2 minutes have now been played in the 2nd half, and the WC lead is up to 26. Kelly is now 1 for 12, 0 for 3 on threes. He may want to think about canceling his previously announced post game Twitter chat. WC is shooting 73% on threes. I'm not kidding.

IWU over AC by 13 at the half.

We all knew WC would not go quietly into the night -- esp. if all their starters stay healthy.

The Green Weenies are all over the western Vikings 44-31. Nelson has 19 1st half points. Mayberger next with 9. Hill leads AC with 9.
It appears both Anderson and Marietti are out of the starting lineup, and Mayberger is now the starter in their place.

FINAL

Wheaton----87
Carthage----54

Wipeout!

Kelly 1 for 13
Teuscher 28 pts

Wheaton 87
Carthage 54

Teuscher 28
Peters 17
Haynes 10 and 14
Wheaton shot 70% from the arc for the game

Gramps 5 (1-13 from field)
Senior 15

Brayden Teuscher was dominant on both ends.  He handled Kelly a lot of the game and the Thunder defended him exceptionally well.  Wheaton is playing great basketball right now

I watched the game online and listened and I didn't realize the Thunder have former assistant coach and alum Nate Frank on color for the broadcasts.  He is awesome.  One of the best commentators I have listened to at any level.  Insightful, with a great cadence, and very entertaining.

Wesleyan maintaing a steady lead of at least 20 over Augie with about 6 minutes to go.
The Wesleyan announcers must be a little bored as they are spending almost as much time complaining about the refs (despite the big lead), as they are describing the game action.
Nelson high with 24 pts.

Good game to Wheaton.  I didn't expect Carthage to run the table, so I am not terribly upset, but it wasn't the Redman's best night.

* Jordan Nelson: 25 pts, 4 assists
* Mike Mayberger: 13 pts, 8 reb
* Victor Davis: 13 pts, 6 reb

* Hunter Hill: 13 pts

Basketball is a funny game - the Augustana team that took the floor this evening at the Shirk Center just does not resemble the one that was 5-1 in the league on January 22.  The Vikings have just totally lost their way.  Grey Giovanine pointed to lack of experience after the loss Saturday to Wheaton:

"When you look at what has happened to us in the last couple of games, we're seeing seniors step up and beat us," Augustana coach Grey Giovanine said. "They're playing like seniors and it's something we can't match because we don't have any seniors. It's something we have to fight through."

I think it's a lot more than that - Augie is just out of whack both offensively and defensively for whatever reason.

The Titans came out a little slow but looked outstanding once they got it going.  Jordan Nelson scored 19 points in the 1st half and helped IWU separate for good from the Vikings.  Nelson is just such an great weapon to bring off the bench.

Mike Marietti had a good game for IWU - 8 pts, 5 reb in 15 minutes.  The development of Marietti and Nelson, the two guys who missed the preseason and most of the non-conference, will be a big key for the Titans down the stretch.

Key home win for the Titans, who are now in a real battle with Wheaton for the CCIW title.

Caleb DeMoss in the starting lineup for Wheaton has really changed the team.  He defends well, helps Wheaton play with better pace, is shooting over 50% from 3 and has helped get Nate Haynes get much more involved.

The odd thing is Caleb wasn't getting that many minutes early in the year as the second guard off the bench with Mike Kvam eating up the majority of the reserve minutes on the perimeter in a typical tight Wheaton rotation.   Kvam getting dismissed (unfortunate as it was) is the reason DeMoss got his chance to get more minutes and eventually play his way into the starting lineup and really change the team.

I give Schauer credit for putting in DeMoss over Berg/J Smith.  He decided to play to the strength of the team (athleticism and perimeter scoring) rather than trying compensate for a weakness (low post depth/muscle).  No question it has made them a better team.

Massey had UW-Whitewater over UW-Stevens point by 1...Whitewater won in OT.
