Congrats to IWU, but really great effort by Carthage.  I don't know if you can play yourself into a Pool C bid with a loss, but Carthage went onto the home court of the #4 team in the country and took them to the limit, missing a three that would have tied it with 15 seconds left.

But, of course, to beat IWU, you have to play perfect (or be Loras) and Carthage was slightly less than perfect.

Bopol, agreed on Carthage's effort.  I bet they would be in the top half of tourney teams if they could make it.  Carthage is a really good team.

Agreed, but I now have serious doubts they will make it in.

Nice win for the Thunder tonight after 2 losses in their last 2 games. Big performance by Peter Smith with 19 pts, noticeably looking for his shot a little more.   Met his family at last Sat's IWU game and a group of about 6-8 family members had flown in from his hometown of Scottsdale, AZ for the big game and unfortunately had to watch him foul out in 7 total mins of play.  So good to see a comeback performance from him.  Wheaties would love to see him get untracked offensively to take some scoring load off Peters/Teuscher tomorrow night  vs IWU and into next week(provided that if they don't win the AQ tomorrow, they still get a Pool C which this board seems to have high confidence of).  Tyler Peters had another solid game tonight – really hope his sometimes iffy foul shooting doesn't bite them like it can at this time of the year.  He'll need a good one Sat night along with an all around solid team effort.  Will be interesting to see if Coach Schauer can come up with something new to address a few of the key defensive mis-matches so obvious last Saturday.

Anyone interested in women's basketball has issues if they're coming to the men's board for their info.

"He is a ridiculously good offensive player and a better athlete than people think," said Red Men coach Bosko Djurickovic. "He can do some things off the dribble and boy, can he shoot the basketball."

Jordan Nelson is a really big difference maker on the floor for the Titans.  He was great again tonight.

Carthage is a very talented team and played great tonight.  IWU had to work extremely hard to win that game.

Nelson defended Kelly well at times too. I'll bet he's first team all-cciw with more minutes next year.

Old story: IWU bench = 33 vs. 11 for Carthage bench. Sodemann played well a both ends (3/4 FG and 2/3 on 3s including a huge 3 which gave IWU a 10 point lead late + 3 RBs) and also played tough defense, in 1st half especially, on Kelly. I thought Malcom looked a little weary in the 2nd half. Mike Marietti played his best game of the year (4 RBs and 4 points including a big tip in late during a stretch that gave IWU a 10-point lead with about 4 minutes left).  Carthage is a very good team and well coached. They are thin on the bench (their bench scored 11 with only 2 RBs). Donte Logan was very good in 32 minutes as was Marlon Senior (19 points and 9 RBs) in a game-high 35 minutes. Now, can IWU beat Wheaton 3 times, a feat that eluded them in the 2013 tournament when Augie won the semifinal game at Shirk? It appears that IWU is a team built to succeed in back-to-back games.

My updated take on Pool C - http://www.d3boards.com/index.php?topic=4232.msg1584101#msg1584101.

I have Augustana and the IWU/Wheaton loser safely in...and Carthage in as of now (near the end of the bubble), hoping for a very minimal number of upsets today and tomorrow.

I continue to feel the CCIW would be better off having all 8 teams in the conference tournament.  Carthage will be competing for a Pool C bid at the end of the bubble with teams that had a chance to win quarterfinal games in their conference tournament - for example, Ohio Wesleyan (beat Kenyon in NCAC round 1) and DePauw (beat Wabash in NCAC round 1).  The impact of these wins on winning %, relative to Carthage's 0-1 in the CCIW tournament, is literally enough to be the difference between being in and out.

Does anyone know the logic behind only having 4 teams in the CCIW tournament?  Is it purely to save on costs?  I agree that all eight should participate---why not?

No, he's right, it's pretty stupid. There isn't even any context in the post....it really just comes off as "Oh, IWU went 2-0 and everyone else lost a game."

Agree.

Mr. Ypsi and IWU70, there is a women's board for anyone interested in talking about CCIW women's hoops.

(IWU70, there really is no board on this site for conversations about campus buildings and opera singers.  Just sayin.)

While having an 8 team CCIW tourney would give teams another win, only Wheaton and IWU would be a lock to win first round games, with North Park and Millikin not very good. Elmhurst and NCC could be problems for Carthage and Augie.
